Bid of just under $3 million dollars turned down: http://www.lep.co.uk/sport/PNE-fail-in-third-Twellman.3717638.jp http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/s...lub_record_bid_for_us_striker_turned_down.php
well ok now 3 million bucks!? I kind of understood the first two offers being low, but now this is just kind of silly on the crafts end of the deal. Look slike their tight purse strings have really screwed them for this year
Sorry Taylor! It's too bad you signed that contract extension with the Revs. I bet your kicking yourself right now.
Ya know - I understand wanting to keep him because you are running out of playmakers but you know Taylor has to be pissed at this.
You know...I really feel badly for Taylor. I know that no one forced him to sign that contract extension with the Revs, but it still sucks for him that the Revs aren't willing to sell him. This really doesn't look good for the Krafts and the Revolution. It certainly creating a negative image around the rest of the league and country.
Yeah, this looks terrible for the Krafts and the Revolution! I mean, not selling their best player, that's total bullocks! It's high time Bob realized his team exists to provide players for Championship relegation battlers. I can't believe he's getting in the way AGAIN by wanting an offer worthy of the best player on his team and one of the best players in MLS year in and year out. What an idiot! P.S. I think I need another cup of coffee. I'll probably regret this later.
Seriously, let the guy go. He's not Michael Jordan, he's not going to bring you a championship, the fans are still going to go to the games if he's not there. This is ridiculous. I feel terrible for Taylor, he wants to pursue his career in England and experience something different and he can't because the FO won't let it happen. If I were Taylor, I'd ask for a trade, or just leave.
Three million seems like a pretty good deal for Taylor. Is Sunil still running the show in New England? I feel bad for Twellman. I can see MLS wanting to protect its assets, but if the deal is good and the player wants to go, you have to do it.
C'mon man! I know the Revolution doesn't have to sell Twellman. But, tell me this doesn't make the Revolution look bad? It sounds like you don't think $3million is enough for Taylor...How much do you think he really is worth?
1.5M pounds.... Hey, i would love to see NE crippeld by losing Twellman, but i can understand why NE wants to keep him. And TT neds to relax, i mean he's throwing a tantrum over a transfer to Preston...PRESTON!!
I do feel for Taylor, if only because of the money in it for him, but I definitely don't think he's getting taken advantage of. This is just an example of him being too valuable to the Revs and MLS on top of being part of a team that has unfortunately already lost 2 other attacking options this transfer window in Noonan and Dorman. It's a case of wrong time / wrong place, if nothing else. Personally, I do think that Twellman is worth more to the Revs than $3 mill, especially because all the Revs would get to replace him is $500K and I have to admit the Revs are not good at going out and getting top level talent. I think Twellman is worth at least as much to the New England Revolution as Clint Dempsey was. I'm not saying he is as good, but his contribution to the team is equal or greater in importance, but it's not even about the value. The bottom line is Taylor Twellman is not for sale.
Everyone is for sale. if the right deal (or one that we all think is beyond excessive for TT's ability, but NE decides to agree to) comes along, Twellman will be on his way out of MLS. sure it doesn't look like it's going to happen, because NE values Twellman apparently much more than anyone is able/willing to offer for a transfer fee.
Well said! You make some good and valid points about Twellman's value to the Revolution. I still think this makes the Krafts and Revolution look bad. Players will be more careful about signing long term deals with the Revs. Some players (free agents) will probably even avoid signing for the Revs because of their devoloping reputation. But, these are just my opinions...what do I really know?
MLS does not equal the Revolution MLS does not equal the Revolution MLS does not equal the Revolution So many on here bemoan single-entity. Well this is what happens when you let the owners make all personnel decisions. Probably MLS HQ would like to sell Twellman for a fair price. This just means contracts of players on the Revolution will be very specific in the future.
I feel bad for Twellman on this one. Someone asked why he'd leave for Preston of all places - well he's 28 years old, isn't he? Any chance of a future in the European game is quickly winding down, and this is probably his last shot at getting into the game over there. So why would he not want to turn it down? He's seen his team sell off their top attacking options, and he now wants to go out himself. I totally understand his position. At the same time, the club has no obligation to let him go. However, I don't think Taylor Twellman is going to lead the Revs to any sort of glory any time soon, so why not let him go, make a little change, and get on with it?
How does it make them look bad? Yes, players and agents have to carefully negotiate contracts. Big surprise. If a player turns out to be good, it may be difficult to leave a team. That doesn't make the Revs look bad. It might make Twellman for signing a deal he may not be satisfied with or make even PNE look bad for valuing an assert different from the Revs, but I don't see how that makes the Krafts look bad. You're saying the Revs are over-valuing TT, he isn't worth $3 million (or whatever portion goes to the Revs), but then that's just different valuation, right? Your treasured hand-me-down from your grandfather may be worth $10 to me, may be more use to me than you, but you saying "I won't sell for $100" doesn't make you look bad. See?
In all fairness, it's not that simple. This is a quote from an article in "This is Lancashire", today. http://www.thisislancashire.co.uk/s...lub_record_bid_for_us_striker_turned_down.php So straight from the club chairman's mouth, it's MLS that is not willing to negotiate. I'm sure Revs management and ownership is involved in this decision, but MLS HQ is definitely doing it's part.
I'm not sure whether I'd like Twellman to go or not, depends on if he'd be more or less likely to ever get called up for the US MNT if he played for Preston. If he'd be less likely, then I'm willing to add my upcoming tax rebate to Preston's offer.
It's really silly of the Revs/MLS not to sell Twellman now. If I heard correctly, he only has 1 year left on his recently signed contract, so they either sell him now, or let him go for free in a year and deal with a disgruntled player all year. Why not bank the 3 million now and get a DP striker to replace him and put some more butts in seats (Twellman ain't doin' it, folks)? They're going to have to replace him in a year anyway. I understand wanting to keep your "star" (aka "the only player on our team who can score goals") player, but then treat him like a star.
Thats cause MLS is the entity that owns the contracts and negotiates the contracts. But its the Revs that decide whetehr or not they are willing to sell or not, so Preston sent them an offer, MLS relays it to NE, NE says these are our requirments..and MLS handles the communications. Of course they have a hand in this, its their contract, but MLS has set a policy over the last few years that they wont force clubs to sell any deals for players they broker on their behalf.
You heard correctly. I "heard" that too. The problem is you were hearing it from a source that is completely f-ing clueless when it comes to anything relating to MLS. Taylor just finished up year 1 of a 4 year contract. His original deal was set to expire at the end of 2008.
You heard wrong, he signed a 4 year deal for 400K last season and has 1 year used up on his 4 year deal, not 1 tear remaining. EDIT: Or heard right from a retard as the previous poster says.
The confusion comes in because the final two years of his contract are optional so theoretically his contract 'could' be up after next season, but the probably of the Revs not exercising their option on his contract are pretty thin, especially considering their stance right now.
If it was his long term goal to pursue a career in England, why did he sign a 4 year extension with the club. Why didn't he just let his then contract run out and then shop around for clubs. Also, if he really wanted to do well in Europe, why did he come back from Germany? Why didn't he tough it out or find another club that he would have regular first team play.
No - the confusion comes from the fact that far too many people don't simply disregard absolutely everything concerning MLS that come's out of Cohen's mouth.
