I came across the article today. The relevant part is:

If you're unfamiliar with Hank Steinbrenner, his family owns the Yankees of Major League Baseball, who are one of the highest valued sports franchises in the world. Many people here in the States don't like them, but they consistently spend more on players than anyone else; and have won 26 titles.

    Full article here: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2008-01-26-2494724397_x.htm

I know the mess that Gillette and Hicks have made up in Liverpool have soured many on American owners, and I know that it is all speculation at this point, but if this ever happened you could be sure that Spurs would not be outspent in the transfer window by anyone.

Oh, and by the way, f*ck Arsenal!

There is quite a difference between buying Spurs and Forest.

Maybe a realization that with the current exchange rate it would be harder to buy Spurs?

True... would be neat to see someone bring Forest back from the depths of despair.

I know the Steinbrenners are love them or hate them, but do you think we ever lose a player over money again with them in charge?

Great, we'd be another Chelsea... plastic fans and outrageous bids for over-the-hill players... can't wait. :(

As a die-hard Yankee fan I would love to see a partnership between the Yankees and Tottenham. However, Hank Steinbrenner is an idiot who would be better off allowing his franchises to be run by people who know about the game. He and Levy are very much alike.

Hank has done nothing but embarrass the Yankees organization since he took the helm.

I think that is how most real Yankee fans feel regarding HS.

I think Hank's main problem is that he talks to the press too much. Because of this, a lot of people think that he is making all the decisions. But if you read the articles carefully, he says that all of the decision making is done based on the input he receives from Cashman. This can all change real fast if they don't perform up to expectations, of course, but I don't think its happened yet.

As a Yankee fan, I'll be the first to admit that the Steinbrenners are a mixed bag. In the end though, I think the goods (a desire to win every year) outweigh the bads (sometimes questionable decision making). In the EPL, where its probably easier to buy a championship team (see Chelski) than MLB, Steinbrenner's good would be more pronounced. Then again, as a Yankee fan since 6 years old, I may just be used to them by now.;)

There was a story about that back in the fall, and I hope the possibility has gone the way of the dodo, because THAT would be a nightmare. Snyder is a money-hungry joke and would be at least as bad for Spurs as Hicks and Gillett have been for Liverpool.

Agreed, Synder is a walking joke. How someone that idiotic could have made billions of dollars is a mystery. If Snyder was Spurs owner, they would buy every washed up player for %250 of their actual value. Ugh.

I'm a lifelong Orioles fan which lately has been far more painful than being a Spurs fan. :D There is no way in hell I want to see the Steinbrenner's hands on Spurs... it's a rather putrid thought to be honest.

I'm sure you all know who my favorite baseball team is.

I'd rather jerk off with sandpaper lining my hand then see a Steinbrenner owning Tottenham.

I'm cringing from Double's visual

I've also heard Steve Nash was interesting in buying Spurs. He's a lifelong fan.

I doubt he has that kinda money though, especially when you consider the dollar-pound exchange rate these days.

i believe the talk involving nash was about investing in the club, rather than outright ownership. one of a number of partners, or some such.
