MLS: ~ $1 mil per year per club (for those that have shirt sponsorship)

    On average:

    Bundesliga: $7.6 mil (18 teams)
    Premiership: $7 mil (20 teams)
    Series A: $5.1 mil
    Ligue 1: $3.5 mil
    La Liga: $3.5 mil*

    Total:

    Premiership: £69 million
Bundesliga: €95.5 million (about £68 million)
    Series A: €71.8 million (about £51 million)
    Ligue 1: €51 million
    La Liga: €50.2 million*

The biggest is Manchester United with AIG (around $28 mil per year).
*La Liga should get a higher number if Barcelona has a sponsor.

Just speculating but I would guesstimate if NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL has shirt sponsorship

    MLS: ~$1 mil on average

    NHL: $5-6 mil on average
    NBA: $8-10 mil on average
    MLB: $10-12 mil on average
    NFL: $14-16 mil on average

Though I don't see it happening for a while. The first one would be the NHL in 5-10 years time. I take it that hockey in Europe has shirt sponsorship. MLB is the least likely league to have shirt sponsorship. Within 15 years, I believe both NHL and NBA will have shirt sponsorship.

All MLS teams need to have shirt sponsor next year. $1 mil is a lot of money for an MLS team.

    7 Teams with shirt sponsor:

    New York
    LA
    Chivas
    RSL
    Toronto
    Houston
    Columbus

    7 teams without shirt sponsor:

    New England
    DC
    Chicago
    San Jose
    Kansas City
    Colorado
    Dallas

Any local sponsors for Seattle beside XBOX 360, Starbucks, MSN?

Throw out the top 5 from each league for a better picture of the impact of sponsorships on the league as a whole

"Shirt sponsorship deals across the 20 Premier League clubs are worth more than £69 million this season – an average of £3.45 million per club. But the purchasing power is concentrated in the top five deals, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Newcastle United accounting for £46 million-worth of sponsorship."

That leaves 23M pounds for 15 clubs, which is about 1.5M per club - A heck of a lot less than 3.5M - In Dollars thats about $3M per club versus MLS standard of about $1M - Pretty good for a fledging league

For MLS, its coming gradually but still coming - DC United may have Verizon as their sponsor next year - Sponsorships should fund a DP easily

I believe MLS average is closer to $2mil. Only RSL got a sponsorship around $1 mil. (because they pulled the trigger early before Beckham was signed). I know Houston got around $2 mil, and I think Chivas, Crew, and TFC are in that range as well. LA got $5 mil.

$2 mil/year is not too shabby if you compare it to the other, more established leagues.

Seattle could also have Boeing as a sponsor.

FC Dallas should get a great Chinese restaurant to sponsor them. They need something dazzling and exotic that never quite hits the spot.

Boeing won't be a sponsor. There is no reason for it to. It would be a waste of money.

It is not a product that soccer fans can buy.

I don't think Airbus is a shirt sponsor for any clubs in Europe.

Amazon would be a good shirt sponsorship (how did I forget that?)

With recent development, I guess MLS shirt sponsorship is around $2 mil a year. All MLS teams need to have shirt sponsor next year. $2 mil is a lot of money for an MLS team.

With that said, here is a recap.

Don't most USL teams have shirt sponsors already? Who's the Sounders' current sponsor?

USL shirt sponsors are nothing like MLS shirt sponsors. For example, Charleston are sponsored by the car company Saturn....that is, a local Saturn dealership.

I think Seattle was sponsored by U.S. Home Mortgage.

Somebody should remove the "big" clubs from the European leagues and re-calculate the average. We all know MLS teams' marketability is not on par with those teams. However, I bet with the rest of the teams in that league, MLS sponsorship $$$ would be very competitive with.

In fact, there was a post on Dynamo boards that was saying how the Galaxy shirt sponsorship is #5 by value in the EPL, where the Dynamo are somewhere around #8 or #9.

I think that BobyOne may be referring to the first post in this thread. (The information in the first quote that I present in that post was emailed to me by a very highly placed official in the Dynamo FO.)

Where do you get 1 million a year average (is that an average of all 14 teams or just the 7 that have them), because of the 7 that have them the lowest amount is 1 million a year and the highest is 5 million a year so the league average should be alot higher than 1 million a year).

    Los Angeles 5 million
    CHICAGO 3.5 to 5 million
    Houston 1.75 to 2 million
    Toronto 1.50 to 2 million
CD Chivas 1.50 to 2 million
Columbus (not sure but you would think they got atleast 1 million a year)
    Real Salt Lake 1 million

    That's 2.1 to 2.6 million a year!

I'll take that $730,000 in England that West Ham gets over that $1 million in America anyday.

So $730,000 is better than a $1 mil?
