I was afraid the whole Twellman to PNE saga wasn't over.

    From the "Hopefuls" article...

Resumes flow in throughout the year, explained Mike Burns, the Revoution's director of soccer. 600 or so people sent resumes to the Revs since the last tryout, and somewhere between a half and a third of those arrived in the past two weeks.

Our coaches go through the stack," Burns said. "They look at every single one.."
    [My bolding]

That is an awful lot of energy and focus for our FO and coaches near the end of the transfer window. To me - that's an amazing statement of how poorly our organization uses it's time.

A lot of energy? It's not like they are watching in-depth videos of most these people. A few hours sifting through paper resumes isn't really a burden on the staff. It's a longshot, but if someone like Tierney ends up making the team because they liked his resume and tryout, then it's worth the effort.

Maybe they are in negotiations to spend the Dempsey transfer money on a statue of Figo to go next to Eusebio's.

Seriously though, if PNE ups their bid by $1 million (which is probably what it would take), the money from Twellman's and Dempsey's fees will be close to what the team would be paying Figo from a $7 million/2 yr contract. Grab a shirt sponsor and the money from a brief spike in attendance and season ticket sales, and it might make sense from a business standpoint. They would need to look for a suitable replacement for Twellman, though.

Personally, I just don't think the Revs will pull it off.

Unfortunately thats NOT how it works. Yes, the teams get 2/3 of the transfer fee but can only use a limited portion of it (500K?) on Cap relief. If Figo comes to MLS Mr Kraft will have to foot the lions share of his DP pay.

FWIW, I don't think MLS/Revs will let Twellman go for anything less that big money ($5-8 Million) and no one is going to come in with a bid like that. Twellman my bitch and moan but he signed and he's staying---period.

Let me preface this by saying I believe a Twellman out/Figo in move is about as likely as... jesus I can't even come up with a suitably absurd analogy.

But, since only the first $500k or so of a DP salary count against the cap, wouldn't $500k be all the money the Rev's need to pay for Figo? Assuming there's no restriction on the remainder of the transfer money going to pay off-payroll costs (such as the remainder of a DP salary) we should be ok, yeah?

Regardless, it seems like a ridiculous restriction when you already have the salary cap strait-jacketing teams.

I am more likely to suit up for the Revs this season than Figo is.

Just wondering at what point does MLS start to consider selling Twellman is a good move. Supposedly 2.5 mill was the last offer. If they come close to Dempsey money or even 3 mill do they tell the Revs, its time to sell and you to start looking for a replacement? I know many feel that to the Revs twellman is worth more than that however this is a business and MLS owns the contracts. I am sure they can strong arm the Revs if need be to cut Taylor loose if they feel the offer is fair. Who knows, maybe they even go out and find a replacement for the Revs. Since the Revs can't seem to find their own replacement for Dempsey maybe the Front office steps in and signs someone like Figo and gift wraps him to the Revs.

So if you're the Revs (with the value of hindsight) would you prefer:

An unhappy Twellman + Noonan in Norway?
    or
Noonan at original salary + Twellman's transfer fee?

"an awful lot of energy and focus" doesn't belong in a discussion about the Revs and player acquisitions.

I believe what he means is that Nicol's team is not a fitness orientated team, meaning they'll outrun you every game. It's about playing smart.

I think they made a huge mistake with Noonan, and frankly, there is nothing worse than a disgruntled worker, which I assume Twellman will be this year with the combo of the offer being declined and losing his buddy and assist partner. The Revs might be better off at this point letting Twellman go.

The Revs organization has done nothing to impress me in the past 2 months and frankly, their mgmt and staff have a lot to learn about business in general. Businsses should do their best to help "employees" out if they were good to you, whether they are still with you or not and the Revs are far from being helpful. They have been a roadblock to more than just Noonan, Twellman, Shalrie and I can name a few are are extremely upset right now by the lack of cooperation from the Revs. I don't know if it is all about money or just poor decision making, but they have a lot to learn about running a business.

As much as I hate to say it, let him go and let this be a rebuilding year. When this teams win the cup, I don't think it will be with the team that lost 4 of them unfortunately. Build up the youth, look for a dp, or at least someone who can bring in business, and retool.

I think that's what we're all hoping for; new players, a DP, building up youth etc. Unfortunately, it seems like the youth aspect is the only one we'll be paying attention to.

Off topic, but while Trump is famous, he's hardly a great businessman. He's done well at financing big projects then declaring bankruptcy when he can't pay the bills.
