tons of great french players are playing in Italy or have played, while italian clubs buy french and play them regulary, italian's get disrespected too much by your players. Your country lacks respect, from what I hear Grosso is getting disrespected by french fans in Lyon, the one italian in your feeder league.

Im sorry Zidane couldn't control his violent temper and headbutt Materazzi.
Im sorry Italy dared to beat France in the finals.

If Materazzi was playing in France what would happen to him???

I don't get what's the point of this thread. Our players lack respect but you are talking about fans.

I think you haven't seen Grosso playing with Lyon. Grosso was never disrespected by anyone in France. He has critics because he isn't good enough when it comes time to defend. But players like Anderson, or even Vercoutre (at first) received a lot of criticism as well. It's not a matter of him being Italian or not. If he was as good as Abidal or at least if he was solid, Grosso wouldn't be blamed on that part of his game.

Plus, there is no hate between France and Italy. This Zidane episode is about 2 years old. That's outdated, our national team and the italian one changed. You should know that Domenech is using media to attract the pressure on him.

If you talk about disrespect, Mexes said Italia is the favorite to win the upcoming Euro. From what I know Mexes is french :p

Wait, what happened to Ahn Jung-Hwan after he scored against you all? Right.

Listen, I don't agree with how Domenech badmouths Italy either, and I've been about as anti-Domenech as it gets. Also, I actually have a bit of Italian blood in me, so I appreciate both teams/nations, but it is ridiculous to make such generalized accusations since this is only one minuscule, isolated example of guy getting booed. Grosso, without bias, hasn't been that good in an OL uniform, like I'm certain Jean Alain Boumsong gets booed when he errs in a Juve match as well.

At my club in L1, Monaco, Flavio Roma, is seen by many of the fans as a hero because of his solid play. Marco Simone was an idol at PSG, I'm certain there are other examples, but I don't believe that it's right to make such a sweeping comment about class.

this is indeed borderline trolling, but i'll give rizzuto credit for good faith, in which case i have the points to quash his case.

first of all, what is his point? that our players lack respect, or our fans or our country as a whole? ripostes in reverse order:

if in football france may be a feeder league, asa country we have received and continue to receive lots of italian immigrants who have been well integrated. there are 4 italians in my sunday morning football group; they're all very happy here and would never consider going back to italy.

as concerns lyon fans, any disrespect you may think grosso is getting has nothing to do with his being italian, and everything to do with the fact that a few very good matches aside he has played like a pile of pants. even so, the fans haven't been down on him the way you imply; there's been lots of deserved criticism in the press and in forums, but his name doesn't get hooted when he's introduced... if he played in england (or italy) i dare say he would get a good deal worse treatment.

as for our players, some have indeed talked more than their share of trash, but italy gives as good as they take, and face it, gli azzurri are on no one's christmas list, it's not only france who fails to appreciate your style.

i mentioned the italians i play football with on sundays... since we're a group of dads who came together through our kids at an international school, we're obviously an international group: english, spanish, german, italian and more. and we all get along swimmingly.

anyway, once as we were chewing the fat over a beer after our match, talking about how we all ended up in lyon, i mentioned that i had considered settling in la spezia instead of here... and all the italians congratulated me on my narrow escape.

not from la spezia as a city, but from italy as a country. mind you these were all ex-pats with perhaps their personal axes to grind, but their point was not about life in italy in general but how life would have been for me as an immigrant there. more or less it was this:

"being italian in france is great; and i'll bet being american here is the same. but in italy you'd just never fit in, you'd always be an outsider, no connections, getting tripped up at every turn, with everyone talking behind your back. here we have real opportunities, real friends and our kids are just like any french kids. in italy your GRANDKIDS wouldn't even be considered italian."

before you go and say i'm disrespecting italy, take into accont that this is not me talking. and consider also that this is the france board; i would never go into the italy forum (as you have done by coming here) and say such things.

all in all, i probably would have done better to throw you out as a troll; seeing that most of the threads you start are either in world rivalries or end up in the reported posts bin, it's pretty clear that's what you are. but that's not the way we do things here.

In my book, when italian fans jeered the french national anthem that's disrespecting.

"On sait que les Italiens sont également un peu réputés pour provoquer, truquer ou tricher." that's not exactly Italians are divers and cheaters...

First of all, I don't mean to jump in but I have to say this to my Italian NT fan...how is that disrespectful? Are you expecting a** kissing from them and every other nationality out there because Italy won the WC? Do you not understand that trash talk, or disrespecting as some might call it, is common in sports? If the players can overlook trash talk and not be bother by it then so too can the fans. Be the bigger man and don't worry about. Trash talk will always be around. Everybody, does it no matter what their nationality is and as long as folks react to it then it will never stop. I, for one, don't even pay attention to things like that because it's stupid to get work up over something as insignificant as trash talk.

My apologies to this board. I may not be a big fan but I do respect the French NT.

i wonder if a mod can be a troll his own board... because this post will be a bit incendiary, so be forewarned!

i don't think italians are more cheaters or divers than other nations, and if so it's only a matter of degree. but purely as an anecdote, look at the first leg of roma-OL last year... 8 yellows for roma, mostly not for nasty dangerous stuff, mostly shirtpulling, timewasting... and 3 for diving! and you really had to look hard at the replays to see that there was no contact... the acting was superb, the kind of thing that takes years of practice.

and here's something you don't see every day: the keeper grabs the ball with both hands about 5 meters in front of his box, takes a couple of steps with it, throws it out to himself in an open area of the field and streaks down to score on the other end. it happened in our pickup match yesterday morning... even the other italians were ashamed and said the goal didn't count! but sunday in and sunday out, a little shirtpulling here, a few stolen throw-ins there... even among friends italians can't seem to help cheating! aside from that the salt of the earth though, so we put up with it gladly.

What a simply amazing thread. As far as I'm concerned, I would not be upset if Italian football just ended. Because I consider it to represent all that is wrong with football--corruption, riots, fan and police death, bribery, incessant diving, cheating, moaning.

Whoever started this thread, you can believe that French players lack respect for a certain player, but if that's the case, then Italian players and management recently seem to lack respect for the game as a whole, something which I consider far worse.

    3rd party observation:

    1) The thread title says French players lack respect, yet you only give two examples of French players "disrespecting" Italy. And you don't even cite any sources.
    2) The thread title implies that France disrespects Italy. Newsflash, everyone "disrespects" Italy. You might as well start a thread like this on the board of every European national team on BigSoccer, because everyone (except Italians) considers Italy a bunch of divers. Assuming this is your definition of "disrespect."

Until proven otherwise, I refuse to accept that Italy dives any more than the average team just because they're stereotyped for it/highlighted more than others.

Each team has a few players who go to ground easily...to me personally it's not SUCH a big deal. It's no moral issue. I mean some players simply do it because they value their limbs under constant harsh tackling. I'd rather they did what Zidane did and simply stopped playing and look at the ref, but this entire thing is not a big moral issue.

Sometimes players also do it because they figure they've outwitted the opponent into making a false move and tackling them, and they must fall to gain the free-kick that they have won hence rather than carrying on impeded. Again, it's not what I'd do but it's not a moral issue. So let it go.

The only thing I don't condone are players who actually dive when NO contact has been made, like what happens in penalty areas.

So you think it's just a random coincidence that Italy is "highlighted" diving more often than other teams?
