Yeah..I've done my Eddie bashing, but I also hope his transfer to the EPL will result in tremendous growth and that he becomes the player we were starting to hope for when he started knocking in goals for the USA about '04. So...since I'm sure some of this stuff gets to the players attention, even if they don't read it themselves, perhaps BSers could put aside all the bs and wish Eddie much success.
i agree. i wish him the best. eddies biggest strength, and biggest weakness, is himself. hopefully something will click for him, and we see him start to work on all cylinders.
Yeah, I bash EJ all the time because well...he sucks. However, I am definatley cheering and hoping for his success in England. Hopefully he won't make Americans look bad and maybe turn into a usefull piece of the national team.
I can't wait to see him fail. I just hope if he goes over there and once and for all proves he sucks he won't be put on the national team anymore. So here's to Eddie, the guy who will completely suck even worse than everyone on fulham in the coming weeks. He'll find himself in the reserves in no time. I really don't understand everyones logic in this thread. He's going to embarass us as Americans. He's bad. He won't somehow become good because he moves to England. So saying you hope he does well holds no merit. He sucks, therefore he will suck and give Americans a bad name. It's like the people in college who keep retaking courses over and hoping for the best. As a fan of the Nats, why wouldn't you want him to find a way to get his head out of his ace? I think he sucks to but if he improves and helps the US out then he won't suck right? I wanted to see him fail in MLS but as long as he is representing us abroad, I will hope for his success. That being said, what is Fulham thinking? We'll find out I guess.
As a long time supporter of Eddie Johnson who was on his bandwagon for years, until recently... I think he is destined to be a failure. Not because he has no skills, but because he has no heart. Nevertheless, Good Luck Eddie Johnson!!! I hope you prove me wrong.
Definitively Ed Johnson was in dire need of working with real coaches he have the speed but he need to work on his field craftsmanship.... He really suck
I wish I sucked bad enough to make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year playing soccer in europe. I would invest my money wisely and semi-retire at age 35 to my beachfront condo. I'd have Landon and his wife over for beers and steaks occasionally. I'd sleep-in late too.

ej's professional future will be shaped on what happens at fulham.... suspect he'll great greater tactical awareness, and be a part of usa wcq process.. with altidore breathing down his neck, the pressure there, and in epl, will make the difference... basically, put up or shut up time for him...
DING DING DING We have a winner. I believe EJ will be responsible with what happens in Craven Cottage. His attitude, ability and "fire in his belly" will forge hi sfuture. I honestly believe that with him and Deuce together, their interaction and trying to outdo each other will elavate Fulham and reap rewards for hte USA in WCQ. Come on EJ, be the GAM.
I don't understand how people could be rooting against him. I haven't been an EJ basher, but I have grown tired of his lack of producing in the manner in which he should for the USMNT. If he finally gets his head on straight and performs at Fulham it will only help the USMNT and the perception of US players abroad. As for McBride and Dempsey, McBride is very well respected in the EPL, especially since he led his team in scoring last year. Dempsey is leading his team in scoring this year, while playing out of position.
This is definately a sink or swim year for Eddie. He has the physical tools. Hes going to have real coaches for once. No more excuses for him. Its time to put up or shut up. He could improve his stock like a Dempsey or start to fall by the wayside like Feilhaber.
I know some top class managers have shown respect for McBride but that really doesn't mean anything. Have good sides in the Premiership signed McBride? No. When teams play the NY Knicks they always talk about Eddy Curry and say they respect him and double team him. But guess what? Eddy Curry is horrible and everyone in the league knows he sucks twice as bad if you double team him. No team would actually want Eddy Curry. It's one of those things that managers and players say but they don't really mean. After you win you have to give some respect to the other team even if you don't really believe it. They're the forwards for their team. So of course they should lead scoring. The number of goals they score isn't that much compared with most strikers. Leading a team in scoring that was on the brink of elimination last year also isn't anything special. They'll be going down this season as well. The Americans had a part in that whether you'll admit it or not.
Oh cool....now we can just trash all our forwards in this thread. Well, at least maybe it helps point out that while Eddie may not be a world beater up front right now, we don't exactly have a cadre of other guys to bring in who are. The great hope around here seems to be Altidore who is all potential at this point. We have no options for his style of player that have proven themselves more than Eddie at this point, true regardless of what you think of him. His career has been up and down for sure. But, I think its a good thing that we have a low 20s forward going to play in a strong league. Unless he just doesn't see any playing time (which would be kind of odd considering they paid a decent price for him), he's only going to improve for the new few years anyway. How much better he'll end up is anyone's guess. Considering he's near the top of the heap for US strikers, even his skeptics must place him in say the top five we've got right now, he's still gonna be in the mix through 2010. A big, strong, fast forward who remains calm in front of goal and can finish decently is useful for most teams, so it's not a shock he can garner offers. Not sure how well he'll do with his other limitations. But, maybe he can round out his game while over there. Heck, if he could just figure out how to find his top form on a more regular basis, he'd be a very dangerous player for us. So, I'll wish him well and hope for the best. Who knows, this could be just the thing he's been needing.
Like I said for my 3 things, I'm both excited and a little nervous. But by all accounts he'll be in the Coco-Cola championship next season, so he might be able to get some serious playing time then. If he doesn't get it during the remainder of this season. Good luck to Eddie.
