    Re: Dynamo Roster Update

I assume Kenny's attitude got better with age. I talked to him about it after a Lamar game when he got into it with the goalie. I have to think that Dom and John would look at that before they signed him.

    Steve Wondolowski

I was randomly looking around at reserve league articles, and the name Steve Wondolowski came up a couple times. Apparently, he's played a couple games for Houston's reserve side, but isn't on the roster. Is he a guest player on trial or something? I've watched him play for years in club teams in the Bay, and later on in college. Does anyone know about his status?

See link in post #45 above - they're adding him to the developmental roster.

That's awesome. He's a hard worker, and versatile. He played most of his college years as a defender, but moved up front last season when someone left the team and ended up scoring something like 17 goals last season. Good stuff. I wonder where he'll find his place on the field.

He's played left back in the last couple of reserve games.

i don't think we have to worry about his attitude with Dom & Spence.

Dom will shrivel you with his stare alone. he doesn't take sht from anybody.

    Mpho Moloi has been released:

    Chron: Dynamo Notes

I thought he always looked pretty good in the Dynamo reserve games that I saw.

That's a bizarre move. It's not like they can replace him with anyone at this point in time. I wonder if he asked to be released because he had a USL offer or something. I only met him once. After the DC reserve game he came up and thanked us for showing up. I thought he always acquitted himself well in the reserves too. Hopefully, he'll catch on somewhere soon. Good luck Mpho.

Mpho asked to be released - he wanted to go play in the indoor league and had to catch on with a team now. He would be too old to be a developmental player next year, so I guess he figured he didn't have a chance to make the roster. (I found this out at the last Reserve match).

What a crappie break for Moloi. He could've had first team game minutes if he stayed for another week. I remember he was the only guy that remotely impressed me in the USOC game against the Battery, and that included some guys that had have starting minutes. It seemed odd that a defender that composed hadn't got a chance at first team minutes.

Oh well, better luck down the road kid...

OK, time to take stock of who is likely to be in training camp and what the roster situation is for Houston for 2008.

Here is the list of players and draftees that I came up with. The only question I have is whether or not Pat Ianni can still be classified as a Gen Adidas player this year, or if he has to be put on the senior roster based on the amount of playing time he got last year. Does anyone know the status here? (I went back and compared Ianni's playing time stats to the playing time that Ryan Cochrane had in 2005 with San Jose, just to set a baseline. That year Cochrane played about 780 minutes for San Jose, and he was still classified as a Gen Adidas player in 2006. Ianni played 961 minutes in MLS last year.....a bit more than Cochrane, but not a lot more....maybe he is still eligible for Gen Adidas)

    Senior Roster

    Onstad - GK
Barrett, Robinson, Waibel, Boswell - D
Mulrooney, Clark, DeRosario, Mullan, Davis, Holden, Ashe - M
Ching, Jaqua (for now at least), Wondo - F

3 open spots (one for GK, one may be used by Ianni, one other)

    Developmental Roster

Ianni, Steve Wondo, Chabala, Ebert - D
Hayden, Ustruck, Cameron, Barlow, Alcarez, Hall - M
    Thompson, Georgeff - F

12 guys competing for 9 slots (the 10th development spot will be used for a third keeper)

But, that assumes all of these guys from last year (and all of the draftees) show up and compete for the developmental roster. Note that I left Hatzke off the list, as he turns 25 years old this year, so he is not eligible for a developmental roster spot. The only way he can make the team is to be signed to a senior roster spot (which would seem unlikely, so I didn't include him on the senior roster list either). We'll have to see who shows up next week when training camp opens up.

Well, as far as camp is concerned...

Eddie, Davis, Clark, Holden, and Ianni won't be in camp.

Great post, but shouldn't we be starting a 2008 thread?

This brings up some interesting questions on MLS rules. Ianni I think will have to take up a senior spot based on age. However, Ashe is still young enough to qualify for a development spot. Plus, with his salary last year we would have to more than double it to move him to the senior roster. Is there any other distinction beyond age? If not, he would be a development spot.

The net result is the same, we have three spots open if Nate returns and four spots if he does not (with one of those going to a GK).
