Holy cow! I just realized today that I had forgot to do my 3rd annual off-season movement tracker! I caught up with all the moves and remade this in the same format as last years. If I made any mistakes, it's because I did this very quickly, if anything is wrong on it just let me know.

I forgot all about that. It would be nice to have a side by side comparison of the rosters though.

So let's see. Over the past two seasons, by my reckoning, we have lost Josh Wolff, Yura, and Eddie Johnson, and replaced them with...?

Our forward situation is starting to resemble the Nats'.

Yes. Our only true forwards are Scott Sealy and Ryan Pore. What a tandem.

Davy Arnaud's best season, in my opinion, was at forward.

I like Sealy--winning seems to follow him around. Can't have enough guys like that on the pitch.

I'm a huge fan of Sealy - when he's not injured. Not much you can do when you're on the bench. Really hoping he has a 100% healthy season this year.

Many people on here have expressed that picking up Gomez would be fantastic - I definitely echo those sentiments. The only downside I can think of right now is the money he wants and the fact that he is currently on Handball's roster.

    From our man Goff:
He ain't comin' back to Handball, we have 1 million dollars, and a friendly staff of fans/players that could forgive his days with the evil empire (I use the term empire as lightly as possible).

He plays the same position as Marinelli and I don't see us having both of them on our roster. I don't see it happening.

As much as I love Marinelli, Gomez is much more of a proven player in this league than Carlos is.

Would putting them both in mid work, or would they just get in each others way?

What has Pete done for us lately? :p I don't even check his blog anymore, since there are several others out there that are more reliable. Besides, he probably got it from looking at BigSoccer. :D

I am one of those people who would be happy to see Gomez in the blue. If we could get him, CO could figure out a way to get both he and Carlos on the field. I agree with you, vividox, he is a proven player moreso than Carlos. To have both on the field would probably help Carlos out, as defenses would likely not gang up on him as much. We need goalscoring help, and Gomez has shown he can score, and do it in clutch situations.

I agree that Gomez is more proven but I think the FO and coaching staff like Marinelli and I'm guessing he's more of the reason for playing 3-5-2 this year than anything else. It lets him roam around behind the 2 forwards more or less free of defensive duties.

To answer your other question I think Marinelli and Gomez together would get in each others way. If one of them could play further up the field like more of a forward I think it would work but we know Marinelli doesn't like to do that based on his times playing forward this last season. He constantly drops back into the midfield looking for the ball. I also don't remember Gomez ever playing forward for D.C. either but I could be wrong on that.

If we play 3-5-2 I see Marinelli playing like Gomez did for D.C. although I don't think he'll score as many goals as Gomez did.

Not to mention that Marinelli just received a contract extension.

Who cares about Marinelli? He hasn't shown jack except for the odd assist and the occasional fancy pass. I'd take Gomez in a heartbeat and let Marinelli ride the pine. Gomez would be a FANTASTIC pickup for the team.

The FO and coaching staff apparently care.

After drafting a bushel of defenders and losing EJ, forgive me if my enthusiasm for the FO and coaching staff is a little muted at the moment.

Well right now the team is rebuilding. We aren't trying to acquire players like Gomez who would contribute immediately and potentially take us to the cup this year... we are getting younger talent like Myers and Espinoza that are going to be around awhile. Gomez doesn't fit that plan at all. If we signed Gomez to a two-year contract there would be no telling whether he'd be around for the new stadium or not.

Fair enough I was just answering your question as to who cares about Marinelli.

Plus we're not going to find a forward in the draft that could replace EJ this season anyway, if that's your issue.

Let's see... the transfer window is still open ... the team hasn't gone to Argentina yet ... yep, it must be time to make a final evaluation of the roster...

No, but with preseason set to start on Monday it's a good time to start looking at it though...
