Quote that sticks out to me:

    Steve Nicol:
"But at the end of the season Dorman wasn't playing, and we will have [at least] nine of the 11 who started in the MLS Cup coming back."

I don't think things are as bad as people are making them out to be, honestly.

just another view, 9 of 11 are coming back but we lost almost 1/4 of our goals, 14 goals and 6 assists. Looking at it this way, loosing the number 2 and 3 scorer on the team makes it sound a little more desperate or urgent to sign an attacking player

You know, that's where I'm coming from too. The question that is becoming louder and louder in my mind is that it seems we need to make a big move to get over that final hump to win it all and does Nicol have the constitution to make that big move? Say what you want about being 'this close' but that is the nature of elite sports - the difference is often razor thin. However, if you consistently are on the short end of that difference, you need to do something differently.

I'm not for shipping Nicol out, but I hope some folks in the front office are confronting that issue head on. The frustration is that it doesn't appear anyone does.

I love the saying, "The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over again and expect different results." So, what are the Revs doing differently that is going to change the results?? At least from a player acquisition point of view, it's beginning to look very familiar.

I hear you.....bottom line, as good as they may be and as far as they may be going, at the end of the day this team is not getting the brass ring. Maybe its a case of Nicol being too devoted to his players or maybe he is limited on who, what and how much he can spend. I guess we will never know

We should chant "9 of 11" in The Fort next season to show our support for the team's success.

Again, the Revs mngmt and of course the players are recognizing the importance of being on a FREE transfer. And these Scandanavian clubs are making moves for good players and they can play them much more than MLS - plus the EU passport is not as big an issue because most of the teams do not already have lots of non-EU players on their rosters.

Another article from Mike Biglin with good quotes from Burnsie:
    http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sports/x254752122

“we’ve been looking to add all across the board.”

That’s not the norm, but now this year we have a high turnover rate. That was to be expected. Inevitably, there’s going to be changes; that’s the reality of sports.”

The big question for all Revs fans, if they knew this year was going to be high turnover - can they get it done?

I'm thinking this quote translates to we're going to use the draftees, or the people who weren't good enough to be in the starting 11 last year.

“We’ll adjust, we’ll adapt, and this will give some other guys an opportunity,” said Burns. “You can’t remain the same forever, so we’ll move on.”

I missed this the first time - but Pat basically got a 100% increase in his salary? 225 up to over 400.

People's perceptions of the Scandavian leagues is going to change dramatically (I think the players and of course their agents have already caught on)

My prediction: One fo the biggest newsmakers/impacts to cause MLS to change some of its thinking is not the premier league, bundeslegia, spain, etc - it is the Scandavian leagues.

Burns and the like have been quoted saying that and the similar for years. If they do go and make a move outside of dealing for Chris Albright I'll be shocked.

Steve Nicol says in the article:
Is Coach Nicol trying to prepare us for his eventual departure? And is that departure imminent? I guess we'll see.

Can we all agree now, that the Revolution were not executing some grand master plan when they cut Pat? Can we all agree that the intended result was shaving a bit off of salary costs while returning Pat to the team, not to send him packing for Norway?

Can we all agree that maybe, just maybe, the Revs F'ed up?

    MLS Cup Roster

Reis - No apparent issues here
Heaps - Aging, but no problems here either
John - Contract is done, looks to be on his way out
Parkhurst - Contract out a the end of this season, transfer rumors are floating around
Joseph - Contract issues last season, should be fine this season
    Larentowicz - No problems here
Ralston - Great player, not getting any younger however
    Smith - No evident issues
    Thompson - Inexperienced
    Noonan - Gone to Norway
Twellman - Hates the team right now

    Subs

Warren - Backup keeper, nothing wrong that we know about
Riley - Gone to San Jose
    Dorman - Gone to Scotland
    Leonard - Waived
    Mansally - Good prospect, inexperienced
    Nyassi - Good prospect, inexperienced
Cristman - Good third striker, can't duplicate Noonan's form in my opinion

Out of the 18 man roster, 13 are back. Sure the 9/11 comment looks great, our first team's still pretty much intact! Yes, we're gonna be great! Then they realize our depth is gone. The season is long, the Olympics and WCQ's are going to be all over the place this season and we will probably get a few guys taken at times. We need depth, simple as that.

I'm predicting Mansally gets the call over Cristman - but this kid does not pass the ball- so the Twellman looks and comments should get very intersting!

Similiar to Billelo's quote before the ECF about how they were glad they had a lot of time to sell the game so there would be a big crowd....

Where did I hear this before....oh yeah, just like at the beginning of the last year with the team press release touting the return of all the starters from MLS Cup 2006...

No. They came to the decision that they didn't want him on the roster for what the option would have cost. There's no way that they didn't consider that exactly what happened could happen.

On the one hand, people seem to think the Revs are forced to do more with less and on the other, they think they are stupid? It must be just luck that's getting them to these championship games.
Well, I expect we're going to see plenty of the Twellman eye-rolling and arms-in-the-air stuff, but where did you come to the conclusion that Mansally does not (will not?) pass?

I was wondering the same. Then I was trying to figure out if he meant Cristman doesn't pass?
