Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? As I mentioned, I spoke to a league insider. I haven't been able to confirm anything with the Rapids. I really don't have any contact info on DC insiders/FO employees. Can anyone add anything from your club, confirmantion-details-etc.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Goff has said a couple of times that Colorado is one of the MLS teams interested in Gomez.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Don't know whether the details or even the team is correct, but if Christian is still dickering and United has to have a decision right now, it's better to trade him for someone of value and just move on.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Does anyone think he's more likely to stay here now that Moreno has re-signed?
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? If the FO doesn't think they can sign Gomez, then I could see a Gomez for Burciaga and Ballouchy trade. Burciaga could fill a left mid void that we have (and fill in for Burch if Burch were to get hurt) and Ballouchy could back up Fred at A-Mid. I know Burciaga hasn't played L-Mid in MLS, but he was a forward in his earlier days and has a really nice cross from the left side, and the biggest complaint on him is that he's not much of a defender, more offensive than defensive. Just a thought.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? If we did this then we wouldn't actually be trading Gomez, but the rights to negotiate with Christian. I don't want to lose him, but if it means that we can add one of colorado's wing players (terry cooke or that other guy) to our midfield then I will be a very happy camper.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Payne already said that if Gomez does not re-sign they have his replacement lined up. I don't think they intend to slide Fred inside.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Maybe we're angling to get Petke, Prideaux and Erpen back in one massive trade
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? I'd take Colaluca and Clark in exchange for Gomez's rights. That would give us two wing players and depth. Herculez Gomez wouldn't be bad either. Either way, I'd rather get something for him if he isn't willing to sign with us.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Considering management has already said that they have the player lined up should Gomez not sign, I sincerely doubt that it is Fred.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? I've never been a big fan of fred on the wing and it is very possible that "the player managment has lined up" is fred.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? We were told at the baltimore hh after the draft to keep an eye on the transaction wire this week by dcu insiders. could be the start of the changes or could be nothing at all.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? come on. I know that as wing players cooke and the the other guy are decent, but Gomito was league MVP recently. Are we that fickle? Is he like milk, "do not use past 04/01/08?" Resinging him should be a prioriety.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? It looks to me like just another item you can put on your fabulous "rumors" blog, Jade. Oh wait, you already have. Usual sources as well: Goff and BigSoccer speculation.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? I believe Fred can play Gomez's position at least as well as Gomez did last season and we need (have needed) a true winger for some time so the Front Office gets kudos if they can get Cooke for Gomez.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Plus there is a very real option that we can't re-sign christian. If that's the case then it is far better for us to get a very good winger for him instead of him going overseas and us getting nothing.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? And e-mails that they take for gospel without even checking the source.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? I don't get this kind of reaction. It's a rumor being posted on a rumors site, and one that's been around all offseason. How exactly is posting that on a website upsetting to you?
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? Let's assume this rumor is true. If so, it just shows how completely effed up the MLS structure is. Right now Gomez can go on a "free" anywhere in the world but within MLS. Now, DCU can trade his "rights", i.e., the right to negotiate with Gomez within the league, but Gomez still is on a "free" anywhere else in the world. Now, why would Colorado make such a trade? Only if they engaged in what elsewhere would be considered tampering -- they must have had conversations with Gomez's agent and feel reasonably confident they can sign him. Only in MLS can you be "free" but not free at the same time. Oh well, took them 12 years to fix the waiver issue, so I shouldn't be surprised. And I won't be surprised when Figo signs with the LalasGals either.
Re: Uh Oh... Gomez to Rapids? i don't want anything from colorado but allocation money. colorado is just lousy. gomez to colorado, lets be real, fernando couldn't make a trade like that. it would mess up his track record
