I draw peoples' attention to the final paragrahs of the article. Apparently QPR shouldn't accept the money (or should at least feel awful for doing so) as it destroys the ideal of 'getting good the proper way', through hard graft etc. But thanks to the utter financial mismanagement and other influences of the last decade or so, THERE WAS NO OTHER WAY OUT OF THIS! We were many millions in the hole and by the time we could have repaid that bloody loan we took out to stay alive - well let's just say my grandchildren might have enjoyed a relatively debt-free QPR. The article mentions that at our level clubs have to run to stand still - LIKE WE AREN'T FULLY AWARE OF THAT! I'd have liked our little club to have struggled manfully to become a Championship bigboy (or hell not get relegated out of the top flight at all) but frankly I'd rather prefer a nice big cash injection, MUCH LIKE EVERY OTHER DAMN CLUB IN THE ENTIRE WORLD! The issue this little tossbag of a reporter is having is that he doesn't like how Chelsea did things. Frankly neither did I, mostly because it was Chelsea and I thought that Roman could have focused his attentions just a few miles down the road - but also because I harboured similar thoughts to the article writer. This was an easy way out of a tricky situation. However Chelsea's situation of actually already being in the top flight (and in debt) wasn't quite so dire as QPR's (relegation fodder in the Championship and in debt). But if you just look at the bigger picture, why the hell should QPR feel bad for taking this money? We'll spend it on some better players; improving the ground and training facilities and generally improving the club and dare I say it, the experiences of the away fans (not like going there as a home fan means you can relax in cushioned splendour - another twattish point in the article). These sort of actions are done by the big clubs every damn season. Why? Because they have the money to do it. Glazer and Gillette aren't rich bastards who own clubs? Sure they are but no-one noticed their input because the clubs they've bought splash the cash every season. Now QPR have got a few rich owners and as such stick out like the proverbial sore thumb, suddenly we should feel ashamed of wanting to spend that money because it goes against the traditional working class ethic of working hard to acheive gradually. Well bollocks to that. If the lkes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd et al can spend money to try and improve their relative fortunes, then I see no reason why we should feel ahamed for doing it 'the easy way'. I'm under no illusions that we will do 'a Chelsea'. I don't think our owners will put the sheer amount of money in that Roman did - or certainly not in the same way. If we do 'a Fulham' I'll be fairly happy.
...and then the money leaves and we're left with a 20,000 seater ground in the Premiership, and sponsors running for the hills.
The BBC reports that QPR has signed 22-year-old left-sided Argentinian player Sebastian Rusculleda, subject to a medical. He will come from Argentinian club Club Atlético Tigre for an undisclosed fee. The article also states that we've transfer listed Danny Nardiello and that Zesh Rehman, Stefan Moore, Pat Kanyuka, Kieron St Aimie, Stefan Bailey and Shabazz Baidoo have been told they have no future at the club.
Agreed, frankly. It appears it's just the way it is, anymore. ******** it. I've been subjected to the Yankees, Red Sox, Cowboys, Man U, Arsenal, Chel********, and all the rest of these pricks who buy titles, all while being loyal to QPR since about 1992. Not exactly the glory years, my stint. If this really is the way the 'game' is played now (and I suspect it is), I have no hesitation againt R's saying 'it's our turn to play.' And full marks to you for correctly calling Mick Dennis a "little tossbag," and atouk for correctly pointing out "consider the source." Any rag that calls itself "The World's Greatest Newspaper" is clearly crying out for help.
Well, in fairness, we don't need many more than 20,000 seats. I'm not bothered by it, if the new regime think that they can make things work with a small capacity, then I'm happy with that. They seem to think that the stadium will be best improved and not scrapped, keeping the club in it's historical catchment area with a good atmosphere. The only reason a new stadium would have been the best option is if the investment team had substantial, but limited means. A new stadium brings in improvement hospitality, non-football facilities, retail, etc. Good for clubs that need to keep an eye on the budget for the medium/long term. Quite frankly, we don't need to sweat the small stuff now (like hosting corporate meetings, slightly boosting attendance, etc). I believe the new investors see the value in keeping and expanding the culture of the club (not moving it to a soulless new stadium) and putting out the best team possible - which would lead to the Premier League and the real money.... television. Everything else is a pittance.
*Shockingly* non-QPR transfer news... Wolves sign Sylvan Ebanks-Blake from Plymouth for 1.5 million pounds (reportedly). http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5iYIFbJZEsXPpMcApJ8tXghXBZ13w That's a lot of talent now gone (to other Championship clubs) from the early season squad at Plymouth.
I had seen rumors of us being linked to Ebanks-Blake, too. Yep, although Leicester is well below Plymouth in the table, it seems clear that they intended to sell off some talent, so you can see why Holloway might think he'd taken them as far as he could.
According to the Ealing Gazzette - the Rs tried in vein to sign Lee Cook back from Fulham... http://icealing.icnetwork.co.uk/spo...objectid=20334858&siteid=67372-name_page.html
Hot off the presses... FIRE SALE AT PLYMOUTH ARGYLE.. no offer (reasonable or unreasonable offer refused) Fellas, be kind to me as you step on me on your way up and I'm on my way down... and be sure to root for me in the CC1 next year. you know, i think we have a good chance of competing for a playoff spot next year, and gettting back into the championship IN RELATED NEWS.... the good ship "HMS Mayflower" has lost its rudder and is currently floundering in 7th position in the table. With stormy seas ahead, the ship's captain Paul Sturrock was quoted as saying "what the %$@! am i supposed to do now?!?!? my effing team has been gutted". whoa is me.....
Those who have been supporting clubs like QPR are the ones that DESERVE to have super rich owners who don't have to worry about prioritizing money and making every penny stretch into atoms. Anyone who's survived the last 10 years as a QPR supporter, with all the many many lows, has earned this time. Criticism of QPR for now being rich is sheer jealousy.
I think you'll be ok, there's still enough in your squad and you've already got 38 points, another 12-15 and you're safe. Just make it through the year and start again next season. It's the downs that make the ups worthwhile.
That's pretty much the way I view it. The days of clubs carefully planning their future, building their talent base, are gone. Except possibly in sports with extremely tight salary caps.
Fulham are trying (and failing) to buy Marlon King from Watford... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/w/watford/7181858.stm
Which of the two teams wins/retains his services for the rest of this season could determine which of the two is playing with us in the Championship next season.
Ha! I think we'll be playing Fulham next season. Yes, in the Championship. Couple derbies with them next season then on to the Premier League... yes please!
The official site says that Rusculleda "has not, and will not, be signing for the Hoops." Unofficial word around the message boards says he did not pass the medical. I've no idea if that's true.
Marcus Bignot has left the club. He made 193 appearances (182 starts) in all competitions during two spells at QPR. He was club captain for the latter part of last season. The official site says he has entered into negotiations with two clubs. One is presumabaly Millwall, where he has played for Kenny Jackett on loan this season. Many thanks to Biggie for his efforts for the R's over the years. I still remember his amazing shot (or was it a pass that found the net? ) that was our third goal in a 3-0 win over Bury down in League One the first year after we were relegated. He's started 11 (plus 1 sub appearance) of the 26 QPR games I've attended and, despite his height, I've always liked the mix of defense and attack he's brought to Rangers. Best of luck to Biggie.
Biggie just hasn't been the same now that he has repectable haircuts Very good Ranger and a great guy. Hope he reunites with Kenny Jackett at Millwall and has a good spell there. I know Millwall did not want to pay a fee for him, so the Rs are granting him the favor of releasing him.
According to an ITV report... Stefan Postma has been given the go-ahead by the Dutch Football Association to complete his move to QPR. http://www.itv-football.co.uk/story/0,19239,6145_3048933,00.html
Flavio shoots down a tabloid report that DeCanio would leave at the end of the season and be replaced by Vialli: http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1215902,00.html
The Ealing Gazette reports "QPR have made a bid for Hull defender Damien Delaney after having an improved offer for Sheffield Wednesday's Tommy Spurr rejected." "If the deal goes through, Delaney will join the Rs for a fee which could rise to £1.2million, depending on appearances." The article also says we're set to complete the signing of Stefan Postma pending a medical today (Wednesday), and that Marc Nygaard may leave during the transfer window. The article says Nygaard has been told his contract will not be renewed in the summer and "Colchester and Scunthope have shown an interest in the forward [and] There has also been interest in the player from Holland and his native Denmark."
17-year-old Colombian forward Angelo Balanta has signed his first professional contract, signing a 2 1/2 year deal that will keep him with the R's throught the summer of 2010. He's advanced from the youth team to make 3 appearances for the R's thus far this season.
Hi, I am a support of New England Revolution, USA. I found this in a local newspaper today. Queens Park Rangers have made a tentative enquiry to New England Revolution about the Availability of US International striker Taylor Twellman. It is believed New England are holding out for a fee around £4 million after Preston North End ended their interest in the star striker after having a bid of £2 million turned down.
