Does anybody know why the '06 World Cup broadcasts looked so pristine on ESPN HD compared to the very dull and average quality of the MLS HD broadcasts?
Keeping my fingers crossed for ESPN's Euro 2008 coverage being in HD. At least the final should be. Has anyone heard anything about it?
I have no idea what you are talking about. I watched one '06 World Cup broadcast on ESPN in HD, and I have watched many of the Thursday Night ESPN MLS broadcasts in HD, and the MLS broadcasts are much better than - for example - the English Premier League export telecasts. ESPN uses lots of cameras, including one above the field that gives a great angle. Generally, the direction is very good on the MLS broadcasts. Perhaps you are referring to the Saturday HD-Net MLS broadcasts ??
Keep in mind that you're also comparing the source feeds. ESPN uses their TV cameras at MLS stadiums and can control the entire production process. When televising an EPL match, FSC merely picks up the video/audio from whoever's producing it. Same way with ESPN and the WC. At last check, ESPNHD uses 720 for MLS games. HDNet uses 1080i, so their broadcasts should automatically be much better.
I'm sure it will, the whole WC mens and womens was. ESPN's already been advertising it, so I would guess they're going to put it in HD and make it a big deal.
ummm i somehow have to disagree with you.... the picture i was getting thru DTV was certainly in HD.... in the earlier rounds. and the picture i saw on friends houses on comcast we in HD as well... wouldnt they be accused of false advertising? and subsequently sued? AHH EDIT, WOMENS WORLD CUP. I have no idea, i didnt watch , sorry for the stupid post
About a month or so ago Nick Webster said on FFF that BPL games being shown in HD was 'coming soon'. Does anyone know if there's been any update on that?
Nothing so far. I think that exact quote was "sooner rather than later." I would guess that implies before this season is up, if not I'm sure we'll see it opening weekend next year.
The Score HD is available on Bell Expressvu. http://www.marketnews.ca/news_detail.asp?nid=3270 As far as I know, it is not available on StarChoice yet.
This may sound strange, but England's lack of an appearance may result in lack of HD games in the euro the Olympics however are a different story, currently, MSNBC and CNBC dont broadcast in HD, and if they do its not 1080. Most of the soccer games will be there on on Bravo, making most if not all of the olympics not in HD.
Have you ever actually seen anything broadcast in HD on Bravo HD though? I've only ever seen slightly better looking SD broadcasts. It's not lame stretch-o-vision like TBS HD or a lot of stuff on TNT HD, but it isn't real HD.
the channel itself is HD, even though the content it is broadcasting is not. It has the capability to pump out a live HD broadcast.
So I'm just sayin'--we haven't seen HD from them yet, so I'm not assuming that they'll broadcast anything in HD for the Olympics.
Yes actually, I have. Chuck, Journeyman, the BSG Special on a couple days ago and a few movies are just a few things I've seen in HD on Bravo HD.
Okay, I stand corrected. I hardly ever watch Bravo, and I've never seen something listed as being HD on my program guide on there.
Do you have DirecTV? If so it's normal, a lot of stations don't use the HD indicator yet show shows in HD. Sci Fi and USA are two stations I watch that don't have any HD indicator in the program guide, yet air HD original programming.
Yeah, D*. That's good to know, but I never watch anything on SciFi or USA. All I want on HD on Bravo is Top Chef, and they don't have it!
I have no idea if this is new, but the Times is talking about Univision in HD as fairly imminent. http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/11/soccer-in-high-definition-its-the-wow-factor/
Anybody with the Direct Kick package through Directv notice that the games are now simulcast in HD? At least every MLS channel has an HD equivalent.
