Black and Blue burger at Fox and Hound last night...fries were better than the burger, but still cured the craving.

    Dinner last night:
Succulent ground beef, sautee'd in dried and powdered peppers, salt, and various spices. Then placed this in ground corned pressed into a U shape and added aged wisconsin chedder to it. From there I simmered a pot of vine ripened tomatos, green peppers, onions, and a bit of red pepper and somothered dinner in this... For beverages we had a fine carbonated high fructose and caffine mixture. Desert was a hard dark bread baked with cocoa additive and filled with a fine icing.

See also: We cooked taco's and drank coke out of a can at home, with Oreo's for dessert :)

Re: NWR: Where did you eat last night?

That's too bad - only been to Piropos once when there was only the Parkville location, thought it was good (but yes, pricey). It was worth the price at that time but if it's gone down hill I don't know if I could justify the cost. My wife and I don't go out to pricey stuff too often anyways...

Last night (and tonight) was Bo Lings. Orange Chicken, extra spicy... but I actually prefer Princess Garden's Orange Chicken. If you are a fan of Orange Chicken (and esp. the 'orange' part) you ought to try it. It's definitely beats out the Chinese places which don't realize the difference between General Tso's and Orange.

And as for why all the Thai - it's got kick and is not something that I can make myself very well. I can grill a steak, make a damn good tomato cream and alfredo sauce, can do some Chinese... but have not gotten Thai (and Indian) cooking under my belt. Mostly I'm unfamiliar with the spices and can never seem to get the levels right.

Re: NWR: Where did you eat last night?

Had dinner tonight with (6) friends at Granite City on 119TH & Black Bob.

Move on... (Run of the mill)

Dinners were their Buffalo Chicken Salad, Asian Salad, and some Buffalo Burgers. Average at best. The buffalo sauce on the chicken on the salads was entirely too hot for a salad dish (and we eat insane spicy all the time). Burgers requested "medium" came back on the rare side of medium rare and I WTF on the upsale for thier sour cream fry dip with 15 spices which was nothing more than Ranch with stupid amount of dill added to make it - not ranch. They weren't even busy yet.

BTW they offer more than burgers and salads but nobody had heard anything spectacular about the place so we all went safe with burgers and salads rather than lasagna's, steaks, and scampi's. They couldn't even balance the simple dishes properly. Consider it Applebee's light - that just happens to brew their own beer. 75th Street Brewry kicks this places ass from a menu perspective. Didn't try their beers though.

You'll have to explain to my uneducated midwesterner palate (and apparently my colon...) why 4 trips to the can is what I want, but OK.
Although not an 11, but more like an 8; I didn't go last night, but recently to a good and reasonably priced Thai place about 20th and Grand. I'm there a few times a year, can't remember the name to save my life, but it's a good light alternative to the Mexican lunch district of Manny's and Margarita's etc., if you find yourself there. I usually go with the Shrimp Pad Thai.

I like Morton's in Crown Center after work for gratis prime beef sandwiches and a well-poured proper drink. Everything there will set you back a bit, but it's a very nice place to stop in to begin an evening.

I dunno. If you have to cook the bejeesus out of it just to choke it down, is it really worth it? I think I'd rather just drink my dinner...

Nope. I went to Lulu's yesterday because of this thread. The curry my girlfriend got was pretty good. I still hated the Tofu she had put in it.

Morton's is always good. They used to have a martini happy hour that was a great deal during the week. The bartenders there do it right every time.

I haven't been back since a buddy of mine stopped working there, so I don't know if they still run it.

I was a vegetarian for about four years. The best tofu I've had in Kansas City is the tofu with black bean sauce at Blue Koi. Try it szazzy, if you don't like it, never eat tofu again :)

Alright I will. I've learned to love black beans (my mom would be so proud), so that might be a good choice.

Re: NWR: Where did you eat last night?

She put Tofu in her curry? Such a waste of good curry. Don't get me wrong, Tofu's great for those who 'have' to eat it, and I'll eat it if it's there (hot & sour soup and whatnot)... but I always get my curry with pork. Glad you seemed to enjoy it though. I'll have to try that soup myself.

Katye & I ate at Em Chamas in the northland tonight. Holy crap was that good. It's a brazillian grill that is $36 for all you can eat meat. They have 14 different types of meats they bring around ranging from Prime Rib, to Chicken Spedini, to Pork Sausage, Lamb, etc...

Pricey ($116 for dinner, dessert, bottle of wine), but totally worth it for a nice dinner out.

Blue Koi is incredible and they do the best tofu in the city.

Last night? Llywelyn's at 151st & Metcalf. Fish and Chips -- they were ok.

Sundays they have $2.50 pints - much better.

She loves it. Puts it in everything. I forget which curry it was, but it wasn't the Massaman.

Em Chamas? I'm not sure I've ever had Brazilian but 14 meats sounds right up my alley. It sounds like a bit of a variety with Speidini and Prime Rib. Was there anything truly Brazilian that knocked your socks off?

Who has the best Fish and Chips in the city? I'm no expert on it at all, but that's another dish I like to try at different places now that I never would've touched as a kid.

Do you know what's missing so we can get it right at the Three Trails Pub? I've had 75th Streets. The fish is fried better than most I've had in KC. I liked the one I had at the Paddy O'Quigleys off 150 as well but I've never had the real deal because I only realized I enjoyed it about a year ago.

Cheescake's was soggy and it wasn't because of Malt vinegar because it had no flavor at all.

It's the batter. I am not a chef so I don't know why, but the batter is wrong.

Looked up One80 since PK is probably too distraught about Veron snubbing DC to post.

    http://www.one80lounge.com/home.cfm

It looks like a pretty good menu, and the prices are pretty standard. 23 martinis and it's the same people that do McCoy's? When I used to drink them more, I always enjoyed them at McCoy's.

Just messing with you. I would've liked to see Veron on DC when we beat them too.

    I'll try it soon.

Last night was Tarantino's. 601 McGee, 1 block east of Grand. I've mentioned them before. Still amazing. If you like meats like Capicola, salami, pepperoni etc., get the New Yorker. A little too much for me, but the sandwich has a following, including it seems, about half of KCPD. I like the Antoinette pizza on thin crust, or the Chicken Spiedini. About $6.50 for a sandwich.

Unfortunately, they don't even have a sign on the front of their store and they're moving somewhere in the next few months but it should be really close to the current location. They deliver from Crown Center to the River Market. 816.421.0043

I have had Granite City Beer a few times. It's not too bad. But, its not great either. I would rather have the Power Plant.

The IPA is their best brew followed by their Bock. Their Lager is weak. Mixing their IPA and Bock together makes for a decent beer.

I've been to Granite City a few times, but only tried the beer once. I had their stout and it was pretty good... I would order it again. The food has been good every time, but it's pretty pricey for stuff that is comparable to Applebee's/54th St. Everything comes with homemade potato chips, but if you want to upgrade to waffle fries it will cost you an extra $1.75.
