Stolen straight from the Revs board, I thought this sounded like a fun way to pass the offseason. Kansas City has amazing restaurants all over the place that I've never tried.

Since I eat out way too much I'll give the first.

Swizzle - A little bistro in Waldo north of 75th on Wornall that I tried recently. It's pricy, but has an absolutely top notch menu

    http://www.swizzlekc.com

    Must try

    Mint Julep
A lot of this is up to the bartender, but the mint julep was probably the best I've ever had, and that's saying something. I make my own with mint that I grow, and try them wherever I can. I'm sure it rivals the best the Carolinas can offer.

Pimms No. 1 Cup - A traditional British drink with gin and a Pimms mix or something that I had never tried before.

Entree - Scallops - I'm not a big scallop guy, but these were unreal.

Appetizer - Wild mushroom and goat cheese strudel, paired with marsala cream sauce & drizzled with a balsamic reduction

It's a small place, and I've read complaints about it being too loud, but it was fairly empty when I was there, and had great service. I went in the early afternoon. I've heard their happy hour is pretty popular and has an eclectic crowd.

If you're wanting to save a bit but enjoy good food, you could go just for a cocktail and appetizer and come away very happy.

You have to try Accurso's Italian Restaurant @ 5044 Main St. KCMO... This place has a wonderful atmostphere, and is off of the plaza a little bit. Before I got married I would take every girl to this place on our first date. They have a good wine list and awsome family Italian feel.

I like to start off with some stuff mushrooms, and you will get some good bread. They have the BEST Shrimp Fettucine I have ever had in my life! If you can't finish it... do not take it home! When you see it heated up... you can feel the butter pouring out of your skin:)... I never have room for desert so I don't know if they are good.

You can walk out of this place spending $100 with a bottle of wine. If not around 60 for two people. This is a great place and if anyone has tried it... I would love to know what you think.

Well I know some of the Accurso family but haven't tried it. It's on the top of the list.

Do you know who runs this one? Amanda, who is my age, was(is?) a fantastic chef at the Marina Grog and Galley. The family also owns a huge food distribution business so they definitely know their food.

The single greatest refrigerator/freezer selection I've ever seen belongs to her grandfather. It was like that scene in Out of Sight where the guy forgets the diamonds and goes after the steaks in the freezer.

    Last night? IHOP.

The pancakes were exquisite, and the maple syrup was just the right temperature.

(We have kids. We don't get out much.)

best chicken parmesan i've ever had.

i can't wait until ihop starts their all you can eat pancake deal again. the butter pecan syrup is about as good as syrup can get. i usually gain about 3-4 pounds during the month or so when they have that special.

EDIT: oh yeah, last night i ate at smokehouse bbq. it's no okie joe's, but it's still damn good. i had the smokehouse special - 10 inch french roll with two meats. i had beef and pork... and it was ace. also, their fries might just be the best fries ever. there've actually been times where i've driven by the place and thought about stopping in just to get a plate of fries.

Big fan of Smokehouse... my wife and I always split the Ribs for 2 (babyback). They do them well, although I am probably not the best judge b/c I like babyback ribs so much that they don't have to be much better than 'good' for me to love them. I really like their sauce though, esp. the spicy. And you're right about the fries.

While I haven't been there in a while, Lulu's Thai Noodles in the Crossroads district (right down the street from Manny's, which is also good Mexican, but I digress) is stellar in my opinion. Well, at least the Massaman Curry is (what I always get), but I've been assured by many others that the rest of the menu is very good as well.

... great, now I want Lulu's... look what you've done to me!

Chipotle(chicken burrito, no beans, hot salsa, sour cream and cheese).

I called the lady friend and had her fax an order in, because being able to skip standing in line and run straight to the counter make me feel warm/bitchy.

Just think what those poor Hmong kids will have to continue to endure. They are the true victim here. Them and the tanker boat refugees who must spend a few more years picking the rust out of their slide tackle wounds.

Anyway on topic. Stopped by the origing Thai Place on 87th & Grant? the other night. Still by far the best Phad Thai noodle dish in town. Even their other restraunts can't duplicate the magic that original chef is doing back there. It must be something with all the seasonings that have been engrained in their grill and pots because it just literally goes to 11.

I hit up Thai Rama here in Torrance. Shrimp Pad Thai w/ a bit extra fried tofu, Spicy. Makes damn sure you visit the rest room at least four times the next day.

Whenever you guys feel like coming out to LA, I'll be sure to take you there.

Especially since it's in Shawnee (by, like, a few blocks).

I don't really remember much about last night. I guess it was a two-parter...El Patron for Jose's deal, where they had some decent grub, and then a post-Blonde club sandwich from the QT on Main (Chad bought the same).

Lulu's is great. I'm also wanting to try Arun in the Rivermarket. It's a more upscale version of the Thai Place restaurants that Beech mentioned with I believe the same owner.

Re: NWR: Where did you eat last night?

For me, it's my girlfriend's love of Thai that has me eating it more often.

It's trendy right now, but I think the main draw is that it's flavorful food, that's not like McDonalds or anything else. I can't eat it every day, but it's something I get in the mood for like Mexican or Italian.

There's something about Pad Thai that I love. I think it's the peanut sauce and spice.

Staying on the continent, Mr. Sushi in Lee's Summit is an unassuming place with great food, reasonable prices, and a hilarious staff. I don't do much raw, but you can still find lots of great cooked options. Try the Lee's Summit roll.

The Red Snapper on Ward Parkway does Pan-Asian, and does it all well.

I made myself a ham & Cheese sandwich on whole wheat last night and had my last banana for desert. The ham might not have been rotten, the bread tasted a bit moldy, and the cheese was month-and-a-half-old Kraft American slices and will probably still be in my stomach when I die.

The Banana, however, was divine(you can tell because I used a capital B...).

Become a food critic, immediately. No one makes food come off the page like you do. I can almost taste it!

That's still one thing I don't do. I like Thai, but all those who have been brainwashed that Tofu is somewhat enjoyable are batshit insane. I guess if you can "extra fry" something though, I might learn to enjoy it.

didn't get out last night, and it's been a few months, but one of our favorites is the Thai Orchid at 6504 Martway in Mission, KS.
    http://www.thaiorchid.us/

when we used to live in PV, it was a weekly ritual to get a movie and take-out. now out in olathe and with two daughters under three, it's tough to find the time to go out anywhere. but that would be my vote if we got a sitter to go to dinner.

our favorites from the menu include the Zucchini Twisters sliced zucchini battered in seasoned tempura, deep fried and served with plum sauce, the Tom Kha Gai soup sliced chicken and mushrooms in coconut cream soup, seasoned with lime juice, galanga and chilli paste. for the entree we share, Orchid Chicken chicken with peanut sauce and coconut milk topped on a bed of steamed vegetables, and #27 Gai Tod Lad Prig seasoned battered chicken spread with sweet and spicy chilli sauce .

Re: NWR: Where did you eat last night?

Good to hear. I'll make it when my wallet recovers from a Piropos date a few weeks back. For anyone who has been to the new one at Briarcliff, Sam and I agreed the other night that we wished the Parkville location was still the main location.

The food is very good but not spectacular (The prices would make sense if they could get actual Argentine beef), and the decor/ambiance with the move to Zona Rosa makes it seem too much like like you're getting Cheesecake Factory experience but paying for the American.

I hope the decor of the restaurants at the new Three Trails complex can avoid the cookie cutter effect that a huge development like this could inherently bring.

Home grilled pork chops, grilled asparagus and couscous..

Nothing makes a meal taste as good as grilling, especially in the winter...

The major, major downside of downtown lofts for the most part. Where's your answer for that Staubio :D? I could do it on the rooftop pool if they'd unlock it in the winter.

I had dinner last night at the Tanners in Lenexa. 12oz. Prime Rib and a loaded baked potato $10.95, dinner salad for an extra buck. Never in my life would I have ever thought that a place like that could make such a good steak and the value is unbeatable.
