well, the way you went off, i figured you misunderstood, and didnt read the whole thing. my bad. and yeah, i know columbus really, really well. i havent lived there in 5 years and i still give locals directions. i mean, its a really really really stupid argument, but there is no way you can say CCS is downtown. central columbus. yes. urban. kinda. downtown. hells nah. 2 miles away or not. hell, the announcers on MNF the other night said that invesco isnt downtown, and its far closer than CCS is to being "downtown".
I don't know anyone in Columbus that doesn't consider the state fairgrounds downtown. Not a one. CCS is downtown. Anyone who says differently doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.
This is a stupid argument, and ultimately pointless, but I can't help but chime in. CCS is not downtown. Here's a nice map delineating urban neighboorhoods in Columbus. Downtown is roughly bounded by 670, 71, 70 and 315. Zoom in to learn more about neighboorhoods you never knew existed. http://columbusretrometro.com/districtsneighborhoods/commdistneigh.cfm For example, Broad&High, Grant Hospital and the Columbus Metropolitan Library are downtown. Grandview Heights and OSU campus are not. I suppose if I lived in New Albany, Delaware, or some other far out suburb I would consider CCS downtown. Sure, its urban or whatever. But its not downtown.
Nationwide Arena is downtown. Would someone say that Ohio Stadium is downtown? According to Google Maps, the distance from CCS to Nationwide Arena is: 4.2 mi – about 8 mins This is following 71 According to Google Maps, the distance from Nationwide Arena to Ohio Stadium is: 3.3 mi – about 10 mins This is driving up High St. to Woodruff Ave. Taking 315 towards Lane, it's: 4.2 mi – about 9 mins Downtown, it probably depends on where you live. If you live in Westerville or Pataskala, then it probably is. If you live in a place like OSU Campus, Short North, Italian Village, German Village, etc., then Crew Stadium may not be "Downtown." As far as i'm concerned, there was a tax issue for a "Downtown Soccer Stadium." When that issue failed, we lost our downtown stadium.
im just saying, if you use that to describe downtown, then denver has a downtown that is absolutely enormous. like, 20 miles of it. downtown is typically synonymous with central business district, of which, in columbus, i would define as within the innerbelt. you know, the big buildings? going north, youve got the short north/victorian village, then campus, then CCS kinda off to the northeast. so youve gone at least two neighborhoods past downtown before you even get to CCS. i mean, if hudson and 71 are 'downtown', then where does it end? like i said, here... not downtown. not downtown either. (and it lies between invesco and downtown) downtown. (well, technically lower downtown) just saying, for comparison. look at other places, like the linc in philly, or the spectrum. theyre urban, but not downtown, by any means. i think CCS breaks like that.
I'm going for the urban but not downtown view. That was my point, taht it was "closer to downtown" than being in the suburbs. It's at the corner of Hood and Campus, basically.
Need some opinions, folks. As I said earlier, I'm having the Nordic Cross flags done and I had an idea. The military of those countries use a swallow-tail design rather than a square, so I made some mockups (the gray wouldn't be there on the actual flags) to see what that would look like and I was wondering which two you guys liked best: Simple Black/Gold Simple Gold/Black Compound Gold/Black/White
Compound Black/Gold/White Compound White/Black/Gold Personally, I like this design better than the standard rectangle, but it could be just me. If you have any comments, please let me know. I'll take opinions through the weekend and go see the flag lady on Monday. I'd eventually like to get all 5 made, but I'm gonna start with 2 and work up from there. I'm also thinking a 5x8 size, but that's still up in the air as well. Thoughts?
I really like all three "compound" designs, Mike. I think they would look fantastic. My only concern would be durability. That is, would you say "swallow-tail" flags are more susceptible than rectangular ones to frayed or torn edges? If not, I think those flags would make fine additions to our flag arsenal.
These two are the ones I like the best, and I think they are kind of opposites, so it gives good contrast to each other. The only one you didn't show an example of is if you have yellow base, white outer stripes and black inner stripes (the flag above, but with the white & black reversed). What would that look like?
I don't think the frayed edges would be a problem, mostly b/c the edges can move freely of the other, rather than having the stress of the entire fly on one edge. I'm no friggin' genius, however, so I could be wrong.
Simple Black/Gold Compound Black/Gold/White These would be my two favorites, HardHat, but if you were to produce them all, I say its a good thing. More flags = MORE COWBELL! It's just a good thing.
These are fantastic. More would be good for the stands, but probably not for the price. I like the idea of the pointed ends. They'd stand out more since many rectangles flags are already handed out at the stadium.
