    Re: Phoenix Rising!

I don't like the idea of spanish naming. i.e. atletico. keep it to the traditional FC.
    Arizona (PhoenixRising) FC

Inferno? Hellions? Man those names bring back some memories of soccer in Arizona from way back in the day... If we had to pick a name, I say Inferno, but FC Phoenix would be great!

FC Dallas has a supporters club called the Inferno already (from when they were called "Dallas Burn")

kind of like how the KC Wizards' mascot's name is "Dynamo" even though that's Houston's team name.

"Phoenix Rising" allows for endless boner jokes.

"Rising" is solely for the supporter's group. And I really don't give a sh#t what the handful of Dallas supporters is called...

I was thinking of a name that would represent the area, and also represent the unifying force that is pro sports, especially in our city where team allegiances are all over the map due to transplants from other cities. I think PHX United would rule.

Say it with me, PHX United.

But then the DC United folk would get bent out of shape.

What about Phoenix Metropolitan Area Football Club? ;)

This is coming from someone who hates the names Chivas USA, Real Salt Lake, & FC Dallas.

like Club Deportivo Guadalajara "Chivas Guadalajara"
    Club Deportivo Phoenix. "Diablo Phoenix"

I know the expansion MLS teams don't like to take on names of defunct teams and/or leagues but if Phoenix does get a team, I've always liked this logo & name! BTW, any news on the team & SSS? I hope you guys get it done!

I can't stand the idea of having a copycat name or--worse yet--no name. Please, anything but Phoenix FC. I want an official team identity for the world to know us by.

Arizona/Phoenix Monsoon – original and has local significance.

Phoenix Firebirds – after all, that’s what a Phoenix is – a firebird.

Arizona Thunderbirds – still a cool image and also has local significance.

Arizona Ringtails – most people don’t know it, but the ringtail is our official state animal.

Phoenix/Arizona Roadrunners – classic Arizona critter.

Phoenix Inferno – actually has a nice alliterative ring to it.

Arizona Chill – I like the irony, and I like the picture of a chill in the middle of the desert.

Phoenix Rising – I know it’s the supporter group, but why not? It sounds great, it’s got great synergy with the name Phoenix (for those of you who don’t know, when a phoenix dies, it rises reborn from its own ashes), it’s already in use, and who cares about jokes? Plenty of team names are subject to jokes. So what?

    Arizona/Phoenix Mirage - we're in a desert, right?

Arizona/Phoenix Copperheads - sounds cool, it's a nice image, and snakes work well for Arizona.

    Arizona/Phoenix Scorpions - good mascot, very Arizona-appropriate.

For me, the use of Phoenix vs. Arizona is just a matter of what’s more appropriate for the name and what sounds better.

    A few others I like:

Phoenix Wildfire - although that might be too similar to Chicago.

Phoenix Nova - novas are undeniably cool, and space-inspired names are appropriate for Arizona since we're home to a couple of the largest telescopes in the world.

Arizona Duststorm - we have those all the time.

Arizona Azteks - would lend itself to pretty good Arizona-inspired designs.

Phoenix Pinions - just kidding; just kidding.

The names I like best so far:

    Arizona Scorpions
    Phoenix Scorpions
    Pheonix FC
    Pheonix SC

'Scorpions' of course has 'Score' built in to the name which is marketing friendly and sounds good. Plus, this is a fearsome Arizona critter which can accomodate many color schemes.

The idea of just 'Phoenix FC/SC' is brilliant! 'Its the city and the bird' I think the person said. There is presidence from FC Dallas and Toronto FC, but Phoenix could make it work better because there isnt a mythical 'Dallas' or 'Toronto' flying around.

    Interesting Banter...Good Luck to Phoenix/Arizona!!

    Here's my two cents:

    Phoenix Thunder
    Phoenix Legends
    Phoenix Stars
    Phoenix Kickers
    Phoenix Knights
    Phoenix Soldiers
    Phoenix Heroes
    Phoenix SuperStars
    Phoenix SuperSport
    Phoenix Sand Storm

..That was fun. I know half of these names would never fly in modern sports but its fun to just come up with a couple of names

I have a small obsession with Phoenix right now... so, I decided to check these boards out and try my hand at a shield. I'll do some more when I find time. Let me know what changes you'd like, or other names that you guys are passionate about.

no problem. we appreciate the interest.
somewhere in this forum, sorry I don't remember exactly which thread, is a posting with 7 choices from which we selected our shield.
it would be from about one year ago.

I'd say widen the beams so there's less of them and won't be so busy. Also it's missing something between the phoenix and the scroll. Maybe just raise the phoenix higher. But it's good. It's better then the other one. Good choice of colors too. Purple and orange. Just like the Suns.

The Phoenix Slingers. You have the old west and an action verb to use when describing goal scoring.

I think that FC Phoenix or Phoenix Rising..Something with Phoenix, since technically Phoenix would cover both the location and the mascot since a Phoenix is a bird.

I am a big fan of non affilation with an existing team. So no Phoenix United, PSV Phoenix, AC Phoenix, Phoenix 96, Pachuca Phoenix, Estudiantes Phoenix, etc, and no Atheletico Phoenix.
