Philadelphia Athletic is the clear winner of our naming contest and has been for the past year. This is the plan B poll - in case Philadelphia Athletic can't be used. This is the final round of voting, please be logged in to your BigSoccer Account before voting.
haha i know this is a little late, but i just thought of AFC Philadelphia. AFC= Athletic Football Club. that way we get 1) athletic 2) AC for athletic club and 3) FC for football club. Also, AFC Philadelphia might be better because they people won't complain that you copied AC Milan. Just an opinion. I still voted for AC Philly though, its the closest to AFC.
I voted for AC Philadelphia, but what if the Athletic copyright problem extends to it, since it is Athletic Club Philadelphia? Or is that too far away to violate the copyright? On AFC DinamoTFC, it can also mean Association Football Club, which might help the "we call it soccer" people, as it IS the official name of the sport. It also takes away any problems of Athletic. Still way too late though, I suppose.
Voted for PIFC....what better nickname could there be than the pies(i lovvvve pie!), or pi's(3.14!!! yadda yadda other numbers)...anyway AC Philadelphia will make people think of AC Milan...and we will be the new joke and RSL will be thanking us so they dont get made fun of..its just a big no-no...be original...be original..BE ORIGINAL!!
Bryan, when this poll is done, can you take the top two, and make one final poll with AFC Philadelphia. Im curious to know if fans will like AC Philadelphia or AFC Philadelphia (Athletic Football Club or Association Football Club, doesnt matter) better.
I really don't think adding AFC Philadelphia to a poll would make much sense as it would be a bit late to add a completely new entry. Plus, i'm just curious, why AFC? I can sort of understand the association football logic, but athletic football club makes it seem like the football club is athletic. The use of athletic in that context is modifying the "football club", it sounds odd. Could you give me an example of when AFC or something similar (two modifiers before club) has been used?
AFC really makes sense to me as meaning "association football club" which would be an appropriate nomenclature for a team in the US.
i have a question...with all these name and uniform polls....when we decide on a name and second name and logo and uniform...do the "owners" even care what we chose? are we going to play any part in those decision-making areas? or are we doing all this for fun? id love to think that the owners really CARE what the main supporters group and basically force in bringing a team here think about the important calls that a soccer club faces
Bryan I know you are probably tired of hearing of new names for the team but I thought Philadelphia 1776 sounded good. Just an idea.
I'm glad to see that Philadelphia FC is in last place, buy a lot. I think that is by far and away the worst of the three names. And it's completely unoriginal to boot. Although AC Philadelphia is still a Europoser name, at least it's a different Europoser name than other MLS teams. And actually has some (tenuous) ties to past teams in the city with the Athletics.
I think we, all us crazy SoBs, will agree and let me speak upon their behalf when I say, "No ********ing Way"
I think I understand what you mean here...I was skeptical at first of the power of BEN, but now I know. I have seen the light. I repent and confess my sins of disbelief. Praise be to Ben.
Futbol is Europe, Europe is what is needed in MLS. F.C Phila Phila F.C A.C Philadelphia S.C Philadelphia None of those gay fruity names like the nfl, nba INDEPENDENCE, LIBERTY BELLS, LIBERTY CITY, BLA BLA BLA. This is going to be a pro team NOT A SOCCER MOMS TEAM.
