CIS Insurance Cup - third round draw: Inverness CT v Gretna East Fife v Rangers Falkirk v Dundee United Dundee v Celtic Hearts v Dunfermline Athletic Hamilton Accies v Kilmarnock Hibernian v Motherwell Partick Thistle v Aberdeen Ties will be played on 25 September or 26 September. two all SPL clashes while most others have away ties.
While I would have prefered a match up that could get us to the next round a bit easier , I'm not too broken up about it . At least I'll be able to see the match against Celtic here in NY . Hopefully with all the Champions League matches and and a League match on the Saturday a very weakened Celtic side will be visiting Dens Park . The greatness of a Cup competition is the chance at a unexpected upset .
'tis true. i'd expect we'll field a team that will have some fringe players playing. such as killen, o'dea, sno and bjarnason for example. with dundee having home advantage it could be a very tricky tie and a close match.
Tuesday 25th September CIS cup - third round Falkirk 0 Dundee Utd 1 (wilkie 60) a good win for utd away to the bairns. Hamilton 2 (mccarthy 16, mcarthur 37) Kilmarnock 0 shock of the night as a young hamilton team take care of kilmarnock. young 16yr old prodigy james mccarthy opened the scoring. david fernandez was sent off on 78 mins for kilmarnock. (simmons 84) hearts old boy steven simmons equalised for dunfermline with 6 mins to go but they ran out of steam in extra time as hearts scored 3 without reply. Inverness CT 3 (bayne 21, wilson 67, wyness 80) Gretna 0 after their first SPL win at the weekend gretna came back to earth with a bump as inverness ran out easy winners. i wonder how many brave gretna fans made the 5 hour journey to inverness for the match.
Wednesday 26th September CIS Cup - Third Round Dundee 1 (McDonald 71) Celtic 2 (McDonald 27, Vennegoor of Hesselink 60) an edgy celtic team squeeze past an unfortunate dundee side that ran them close all the way to the final whistle. Partick Thistle 0 Aberdeen 2 (Young 42, Considine 64) partick never recovered after missing a first half penalty and aberdeen took full advantage. ex-thistle player derek young silenced the home fan boo boys with the first goal just before half time.
CIS Insurance Cup - fourth round draw: Aberdeen v Inverness CT Dundee Utd v Hamilton Academical Celtic v Hearts Motherwell v Rangers Ties at Pittodrie, Tannadice and Fir Park to be played on 30 October. Celtic v Hearts on 31 October
Not too upset to be out of this competition. It is nice to win as Hibs did last year, but right now it looks like Hibs should concentrate on winning points.
Anyone watching? I have a gut feeling Hearts are going all out for this one, it being their only chance of achieving anything this year. It looks like Aberdeen and Dundee both took an early lead.
Scottish CIS Insurance Cup: Quarterfinals Final - Pittodrie Stadium Attendance: 7,270 Aberdeen 4 - 1 Inverness CT Final - Celtic Park Attendance: 21,492 Celtic 0 - 2 Hearts Final - Tannadice Park Attendance: 4,567 Dundee Utd 3 - 1 Hamilton Final - Fir Park Stadium Attendance: 9,283 Motherwell 1 - 2 Rangers
BORUC, CALDWELL, KENNEDY, MCMANUS, NAYLOR, MCGEADY, BROWN, HARTLEY, DONATI, JVoH, MCDONALD. Very disappointing display by Celtic. I know it's hard to get up for all these different cup ties, but if that's going to mean performances like tonight, you'd better mix in some reserves who are more eager to impress. Venegoor of Hesselink started his first match in awhile and went off around the 60th or 70th (Killen replaced). Not surprisingly, but unfortunate for Celtic on the night, he was very sluggish and contributed very little. McDonald didn't get much service either. McGeady was our man of the match with a few good runs, but there wasn't an awful lot to talk of for any Celtic player in the final third. Scott Brown wasn't bad, showed some typical aggression and commitment, put in a left-footed cross that most strikers would have slid into the net from close range, but Sno (i think) couldn't see it through. I don't know why Nakamura wasn't on, he could have made the difference. Hearts first goal arguably should never have developed. It looked like their winger failed to keep the ball in play on the sideline, however the linesman (who was right there) judged it was in, and a pass or two later it was in the back of the net with a cross-goal shot spinning away from Artur Boruc at the near post and into the far corner. However, there was nothing wrong with Hearts second goal and Celtic didn't do enough to deserve advancing on the night.
naka is injured again. same trouble with his left knee that he had after the spartak game and forced him to miss a couple of matches earlier this season. he won't play against kilmarnock at rugby park this weekend and is racing to be fit to play against benfica in the CL.
Next round according to BBC site: Tuesday, 29 January 2008 Aberdeen v Dundee Utd, Semi-Final, 19:45 Rangers v Hearts, Semi-Final, 19:45 What do you want to bet we beat Rangers then phone it in versus Aberdeen and lose. It's how this season is going, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it.
League Cup Semi-Finals Aberdeen - Dundee United this game is at tynecastle, united beat aberdeen 3-0 recently and that will give them a boost ahead of this game. id like to see aberdeen win the cup, but not at the expense of any injuries ahead of the clash with bayern. my prediction, aberdeen 0-2 dundee united Rangers - Hearts with the game at hampden rangers will basically have home field advantage. hearts won the edinburgh derby recently and they will hope to kick start a good run of form, and with rangers concentrating on the uefa cup and the spl a cupset is not outwith the reach of hearts. i want hearts to win this match but i say, rangers 3-2 hearts
I personally am hoping for United 1-0 Aberdeen Aberdeen will be much more alert as this could be there only shot at a trophy (as could United) Calderwood is a sneeky coach who will have his trroops fired up for this one! (he might look like a bumbling idiot but he is far from being one) Levien may have more firepower if DeVries signs so that could change the game completely. Will be a game of which defence holds out better Hearts 1-0 Rangers I am hoping Hearts are firing on all cylinders and take out the Teddies as I fear Hearts a lot less than I fear Rangers. Also Hearts are farmore likely to implode on a final day, that being said however, our last cup win was against Rangers!
All right! Everybody's a Hearts fan (for a day, at least). Altogether now, "Hearts, Hearts, glorious Hearts!" Yankhobo, you may be excused.
Babelfish didn't have Lithuanian, so I had to use Russian. Nonetheless, I wanted to make sure the rest of the Yams could actually understand you.
