Is there going to be another Thanksgiving Day game this year? I had THE BEST time last year, and have been looking forward all year for another. Also.....I think we might want to name it the Gravy Cup, since cup best describes soccer, and bowl is used for pointy ball games. Just a thought.

Yes, there will be Gravy Cup this year! We are just starting to get it organized, but I think it will be bigger and better than the previous two. I've already gotten commitments from a couple of RSL players (who could forget Jeff Cunningham skinning everyone last year?) and staffers. And we're going to continue collecting canned food for the Utah Food Bank, a tradition we started last year.

While I'm at it, we're in need of volunteers, so let me know if you're interested in helping out. Specifically we need people who would let us use equipment, and also non-players who want to help collect & distribute food. Please PM me or send me an e-mail. jeremy.horton@aylsoccer.com

I would love to be there early enough and have enough people to make those playing football find a different location.

Jeff Cunningham showed up and played for awhile with us. He was awesome, both on the field and off. Really nice guy to talk to, and not bad atacking with the ball. :)

Who might show up this year??

Do we play on a full sized field, with goals and all? I play keeper and I think I have convinced my wife to let me come this year (after guilt tripping her about being able to play with Jeff Cunningham last year). Cant wait for more info and I really hope I am able to make it. Even if we dont play with keepers, I used to be a field player, just not in that good of shape any more.

well it is a field with Goals... I am not sure if the size is Official FIFA... but it works for what we need!

The RMC will more than likely make an appearence as well.

Well, I didn't necessarily mean official sized  More like are there actual goals compared to say... those little 1-2 foot wide portable nets used in training. But either way, you answered the question. I am really hoping to be able to make it. It sounds like fun, and it would be nice to meet a few fellow RSL fans. Most people think I am crazy for liking soccer as much as I do.:D

You can count me in. This sounds like a lot of fun. I'm a keeper too, so I vote for playing full field with goals and all that.

It would be fun for those without family commitments, etc. to get together after the game and have a pot-luck thanksgiving dinner. Anyone interested in that?

Just call the stupid thing the gravy bowl. Who ever heard of a gravy cup? Are you afraid ESPN is going to get wind of this and send Stuart Scott out on location only to find out that it's soccer instead of football? If so call it the "RSL supporters and other people who like to play soccer getting together on Thanksgiving for a pickup game where they won't be playing american football event."

I kinda like that... we can come up with one of those cool little abbreviations for it....

    RSOPPNAF... or something

Well it has actually been called the Gravy Cup since the begining when Fuegote came up with the idea... but the name is not that important.

People showing up to play and donate food to the Utah Food Bank is what is important.
Oh and having some fun too.

and having NAF in the name anywhere is not the best thing... LOL

I'm interested, but the only organized soccer I played was indoors when I was little. However, I can beat superstar on Winning Eleven. :)

The pot luck thanksgiving sounds good, but I am sure I will be doing something in the evening. So, I would be interested in a lunch time one.

I think I will be there as well. I haven't played much soccer in my life (I hope that is okay) but it sounds like a lot of fun.

No worries. I've only played in a couple of games (a couple of years ago) and when we did the first gravy cup i got worked by some 12 year old. Priceless.

    It's all in good fun.

    That kid plays for me.......he was 10, not 12. He's 12 this year. :)

And for whoever asked, yes, you can come late. We'd rather see you late than not at all.
