St. Louis United "The Knights" Classier (IMO), and is more conducive to chanting - if we have two names, in effect.
How about "St. Louis Archies" I don't like the knights, saints, etc. I think "Real St. Louis" would be appropriate since the city was actually named after a king.
What about St. Louis Silver Knights or St. Louis United (Silver Knights) I think Silver Knights has a nice ring to it as opposed to just Knights but Knights is a great name. I know I am a Seattle supporter but it is always fun to name teams. The majority of the Seattle fans that post here want our team to be called the Sounders given the history and relevance etc. Have you thought about what you want to name your stadium? which by the way, looks extremely cool!
i sorta like it, st. louis united would be the official name, but this is the first ive heard of the "silver knights." It has a good ring to it but i think we can do more with the simple "knights"
i was a little drunk at the time of the last post and i dont know what i was thinking. I think i was trying to get at the point that st. louis united should be the official name, we dont have to be absolutly set on a nickname at this point. i like the knights, but at some point something might happen and we may want to take another name.
That sounds like a senior citizen team. (Maybe that's an idea, it would be like the opposite of a youth program.)
Even when RSL was possibly moving to STL, I felt that the name Royale St. Louis would have been better(Our Supporters Group could have been the Battle Royale). I don't think the name REAL should be in any city without a large hispanic community.
Real is used in Spain a european country, it has nothing to do with latin americans. So, Real should not be in any city without Europeans.
Um, the post you quoted said "Hispanics" not "Latin Americans." Hispanics are people of Spanish descent. Are you telling me that a Spanish-American or a Spanish-blooded Latin American may not have Spanish loyalties in soccer? Why do they have to be from Spain itself? If a Spanish person's family has been here for a few years, don't they count as much as those who just moved here? If a city has a large German-American community, they might go with Werder or Bayern; if they have a large French community, they might go with Olympique; if they have a large Hispanic community, they might go with Real. Who cares if they're new immigrants or just people who're proud of their heritage.
My main point is REAL is Spanish, and Salt Lake has no ties (that I know of) to Spain or Royalty. On topic, I voted St. Louis United (the Knights) because United is such a well known soccer name, it could lend itself well to casual fans (They will know we are talking soccer when we mention United. Maybe not the case when we talk about the Knights)
Um, there are not alot of people in America directly from Spain. I took Hispanic as Mexican. Mexicans are mostly Native Indians not spanish there's nothing wrong with that I am just saying. Two of my grandparents were of Spanish decent from Europe and I am proud of that, but on average most latinos are part, if not all Native Indians which is cool. South America has more pure Spanish. I think latinos would hate Spain for what it did to their people rather than embracing them. but I could be wrong
I guess my real point is the name Real Salt Lake is dumb. There, I said it and feel better about it. I still like the name United, and would be just as thrilled with The Knights.
Saint Louis United would remind me of another soccer team in that area. Saint Louis University. So I'd rather see a SL Knights than another SLU.
most likely the abbreviation would be STL...... since ive never seen STC, STR, STB for any of the other teams...... but if it was SLU i dont think anyone would get confused
