    David Carney to Sheffield UTD.

Word on the street is that Carney will be relocating to English club Sheffield UTD. This season even after signing a further two year contract with his current club.

Mark Milligan also has strong links with English and other European clubs as well...
Don't be surprised if they both make a move overseas before the A League starts. Or even at the end of the season.

If we only get $90,000 for Carney I'll be disappointed. He's a national Team player, and young, I'd want at least $250,000 for him, which for England clubs isnt much.

If Newcastle got what 500k for Carle??? then Carney should be around 300k at least. By the looks of that article Carney would be getting quite a lot of money.

    What a paltry transfer fee.

Yes, disappointing transfer fee. Especially for a player who has just been playing for Australia. I would've expected over 200k atleast, but upon hearing the talk by the club of 90k or so and then to see the figure was around 110k, very disappointing. And you think Sydney FC would be more skilled in the business side of things. It can be hard when the player is keen to leave though, it can lower the value when he's desperate to leave.

Thought we might want to stay in touch with our current left sided player who is young enough to look towards the next World Cup.

Re: David Carney @ Sheffield United [R]

Socceroo David Carney says matching up on Argentine phenomenon Lionel Messi was the biggest challenge of his fledgling international career. By far.

Coach Graham Arnold placed Carney in an unfamiliar defensive role at the MCG, with his primary responsibility to ensure Messi did not wreck havoc down Argentina's flanks.

Much was made in the lead up to the match of Messi's brilliance with the ball at his feet, devastating turn of speed and powerful shot, leading to claims he is the new Maradona.

But the 23-year-old Carney, playing in just his fifth match for the national side, was not overawed by the occasion or the opponent.

Yes, Messi did produce a number of superb runs and showed his undoubted skill - including a second-half free-kick which found the head Martin Demichelis for the only goal of the game - but Carney stood up to every challenge in front of 70,171 fans.

The highlight was a sensational first-half tackle when Messi was put through inside the box and looked set to shoot on goal but Carney produced a perfectly timed tackle to end the threat.

"I just slid and didn't know whether I was going to get him or the ball so lucky it was the ball," Carney said after the match.

I'd like to see Carney get some Championship game time. If he got MOM in his first match in the Carling Cup, surely that must warrant some playing time?

Good bio on Carney. Some footage of some nice footage v sunderland in P Box evasive skills then short chipped cross typical from carney. He scored recently, hopefully on YTube soon.

Why isn't he getting a go in the championship? Jesus the guy is at the top of his game at the moment and is more than capable of playing at this level.

Re: David Carney @ Sheffield United [R]

Actually I think he is now? I think injury was largely the reason for his delayed start and subsequent few games in the reserves. But recently he's started a Championship game and Robson rates him highly. He was widely regarded in 1 match atleast, as being Sheffield's best player on the pitch, I think that comment may've even come from Robson himself.

There were rumours Robson may even look to poach from the A-League again, though only a rumour ofcourse, for now.

Hmm I looked up Sheffield United's Fixtures and their last match, was on October 6, the match where Carney debuted in the Championship and impressed. Their next match isn't scheduled till October 20, so this Saturday. The long break presumably for the International fixtures. So unless injury gets in the way, expect Carney to suit up for the Blades again.

To be honest, it's VERY early, but looking at their squad and how Carney impressed first game, I think Carney will quickly become a key player for them ;) .

Sheffield United are looking to rebound back into the EPL, which would be great for Carney, but at this early stage of the season, 4 games in, it hasn't been that impressive, with the club sitting on 9 points and in 20th place out of 24 teams. they're already 7 points off the 6th and final play off spot and 10 points off 2nd placed Charlton, for the Top 2 Automatic EPL Qualification spots.

Too bad he didn't join Watford, Charlton, Bristol or Stoke or a team like that. They seem to be the ones showing the early season form, including Bristol having beaten the Blades 2-0 in that October 6 match Carney played in.

Wow, I didn't believe it before in the other thread, but it seems to be for real.

I really hope he makes the move, even though he's barely played for his current side. He's better than the English Championship that's for sure. German Bundesliga would be perfect for him and playing Champions League with a club like Bayern (If they finish well this season, that is) even better.

A clubs like Kaiserlautern and Bochum would be great also. Anderlecht is a great club, who I presume plays Champions League, but the Belgium league is hardly that great, though is a slight step up from him current league I guess.

Worst thing about Kaiserslauten is they are 3rd from the bottom of 2. Bundesliga. Bochum is a bit better on 13th in the 1. Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich? I can't imagine he'd get any game time there. Though carney seems to be one of those players that can lift himself up to higher levels.

Yeah that would be the worst thing if he did actually go there.

Yeah he transferred to them in the last window. He has been amazing for them as well. Him & Luca Toni seem to link up well.

Well its looking like a real possibility Carney will be leaving the blades already. Where do reckon he will go? I'm hoping if he moves he goes to a German club that would great.

Not bayern though that would be stupid.

A mid table club would be the go for him. Somewhere that he will actually get game time also that is not likely to get relegated.

Carney has scored in the first half of the FA Cup 3rd round vs Bolton...he seems to be getting better with each game aswell
