    MLS or Polish First Division

I had this argument with my friend recently. What do you guys think?

Pretty even with a slight edge to Poland. I am pretty sure that New England or DC could beat Zaglebie or GKS, but Legia and Wisla would beat any MLS club in real competition. So I think that the Polish league has two teams that are better than any team in the MLS, but the MLS has a couple of teams that are better than any other Polish Ekstraklasa team.

    Thanks for the inputs!

Any responses from those who voted for MLS?

I think they are pretty much even. DC is the best of all the teams.

OE easily. League has better talent, better tradition and way way way better atmosphere. Polish ultras are some of the best in todays football. Also Legia and Wisla would destroy DC united.

People who voted MLS obviously don't know polish football at all. You people need to stop putting MLS on a pedestal. All of you make it more than it really is,and guess what, its absolutely crap.

    Polish, but just slightly.
Have this argument in 10 years and it will be MLS for sure.

How could it be slightly? MLS is 11 years old. Their teams never played in CL or UEFA like tournaments. They play against Mexican teams in mickey mouse tournaments. I would be surprised if the MLS survives another 10 years...

Sorry, that I can`t answer your question, But I would like to add a new persprctive on the Polish league. In my data of European leagues the Polish league is in 21st place, right behind Sweden and slightly ahead of Belgium. As a yardstick Wisla Krakow, which is on top of the table with 26 points in ten games, would currently place at the 10th place in the Spanish League with some 8.5 points. Belachtow in 8th place in Poland would be in 19th place in the English league.

Details of my model can be found in various posts to this board, search under my username.

    Hmmmm....I wonder why?
    What stupid reasoning.
San Marino plays in UEFA like tournaments, does that some how give them and edge over a country who's league's dont play in UEFA like tournaments?

Anyways, I can't say as I don't keep up with what's going on in Poland besides checking stats here and there. But I don't see how one could be much more superior to the other.

P.S. Get ready to be suprised.

Interesting perspective. So while Wisla would be 9th in La Liga, then Dynamo or DC would be like 15th in the 2nd Spanish division. And dont even get me started where MLS teams would be in the Prem or should i say not be in the english leagues...

It's cool to be proud of your heritage but you're really stretching here. Try to be unbiased for a second. Both leagues are pretty damn good. Way to support the Fire..GLORY HUNTER!

Unbiased?! lol this thread has got about 11 Americans 1 Polish Guy and an Aussie. Shame the only unbiased person here doesn't know enough about either leauge to settle the argument (and yes I know I did vote MLS slightly but I'll take that back)

This would be easy to settle if there was a proper world club cup. So teams from other continents can't really be compared untill there is one, and believe me if really FIFA sat down and created a tournament with the same calibre as the WC but for clubs it would catch on like wild fire. Agree?

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure thats not going to happen anytime soon.

MLS by FAR! A Fire team who was TERRIBLE at the time beat Cracovia in a very comfortable 1-0 game. Chicago's 'keeper pretty much could have sat through the game.

So MLS is better by far yet they defeat Cracovia ( below average team in Polish league) by 1 goal

Let's not forget that Wisla won the Chicago trophy.

I don't know really, both leagues are usual leagues to show off their skills to move to better leagues. Wisla and Legia are both starting to get back to their original position fighting for first, and Wisla has a very good record when it comes to Uefa Cup. The basic point is I always hear more stars from OE going to better leagues. MLS well I'm starting to hear more from them, but I can't say as much.

You're apparently not realizing just how terrible Chicago was at the time compared to the rest of MLS.

Chicago's record in the 8 matches before playing Cracovia was 1 win, 1 draw, 6 losses. In the 4 league matches they played after Cracovia but before Cuauhtemoc Blanco arrived (and Chris Rolfe's return to the lineup 1 week after that), they drew 2 and lost 2, with one of the draws being vs. Toronto at home - and that doesn't include the embarrassing US Open Cup loss in which they were completely dominated by the Carolina Railhawks.

That's the team that Cracovia lost to - more like a mediocre USL-1 team than a MLS team.

Which is why I didn't say one was better than the other. Doesn't it piss you off when someone living in Australia ignores their home A-league them bashes them to support Chelsea? Piss off. Because you don't know anything about either league let alone one of them.

Yes I know that so there is no need to get fiesty, but the point that I am raising is that it is impossible to compare teams from different continents unless they are actually playing each other in proper tournaments that are tasken seriously.

Not some bullsh*t about the A-Leauge and Chelsea. If ur reffering to me in that little rant and rave ur a moron because I follow the A-Leauge and I am (as it clearly states next to my name) a Manchester United supporter.

I guess the part of "friendly" match doesn't makes sense to you. But hey whatever helps you sleep at night. The Cracovia squad was probably like 3rd string also...hahahaa

mmh... first, I have never watched a match in either league, so I don't really have an educated opinion, however... Poland is definitely NOT a good league, by any measure. They play in the prestigous European Cups, but they lose, usually very early against teams from Ukraine or Austria, hardly what I would call top teams. The MLS teams lose to Mexican teams instead, the Mexican League is known to be one of the strongest leagues out of Europe (but still, outside Europe...)

Bottomline: I really have no idea which one is stronger, probably they are more or less equal, in 10 years I'd place my bets on the MLS, since I know they are developing positively.

So, let's see. Mods, please either close this thread or move it to World Rivalries. There's neither statistics nor analysis here.
