Hammarby are at home today against Helsingborgs. A win would put Hammarby very close to European football again next year. Charlie is in the squad; however both Paulinho Guara and Andersson are healthy so I imagine Davies will start on the bench, unless the coach goes with the 4-3-3 again.
Charlie gets to start! He's playing next to Petter Andersson in an announced 4-4-2. Gotta run to the stadium now, but let's hope he scores one, or two, or even more goals, that would be lovely.
Quick and accurate poster as always It will be great to see what CD can achieve with 90' of playing time. Your weekly Swedish lesson will be available in about an hour at: http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/radiosporten/nyhetssidor/index.asp?programid=2835&nyheter=1 Top right corner, Hammarby - Helsingborg Good luck!
CD free aginst Helsingborg goali 10 min and CD scoo.... NO no no he missed 13 min he misses agian o no o no
Well, unfortunately the match ended 0-2 to Helsinborgs. Charlie did go the full 90 however. It looks like he had a few shots on target as well as a few misses. With only a couple of games left, any UEFA Cup hopes are quickly dying.
The game was abandoned with 8 minutes left. This isn't the first time this has happened at a Hammarby home game, so I wouldn't be suprised if they'd be dealt a harsh penalty.
Now I am waiting for personal observations by Lorelaei. BTW, Hammarby is safely in mid-table, isn't it?
Well, okay, I'm pretty pissed off right now, but I won't go into that, I'll try to put down some words about Davies instead. I think Charlie made a really good perfomance tonight. He had some good chances, some nice passes and an overall really well-played game, it's just the goals that are missing. So missing though. (but anyone that doubted that he's got talent, must have realized how wrong they were tonight) One thing I noticed was that he can take the ball down a lot better now. Before he often had a very lousy first touch, especially with long passes. I think he's improved in that part of the game, but he still has his moments where you don't really know how he manages to lose possession. But he fought, he ran, he dribbled and he worked hard the whole game through. With that, he earned himself a nice little chant at the end of the game, so I believe that would also confirm that he actually did well and that it was not just my fever picking these things up. And yes, we are stuck in nowhere when it comes to the table... Gotta try to sleep this fever out of my body now. But I might realize tomorrow, when I'm a bit more alert, that I've forgotten things that he did or maybe some more opinions and I'll come back.
thanks for the report. Seems he has the same problem with all US Intl strikers though, gotta put the ball away damnit!
The American nation sincerely thanks their Swedish breathern for their patience with our young starlet. You do us a great service by not jumping down Charlie's throat for the lack of goals. I doubt we would be as patient with our own....in fact we would have already skewered and bbq by now over here....so here's to you, Sweden!
It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock-n-roll. 2007 is Chapter 1 in Charlie's long - and hopefully illustrious - career.
Yesterday, Charlie did the best performance so far in the green and white shirt. It surprised me that he worked so well as a target player. He got loads of balls delivered from the defense and he took care of them in a very fine way in some pretty pressured situations. He was also very active in the finishing moments and got some ball against the goal where other strikers would have lost the ball in an earlier moment instead. I really hope that the reason Charlie played from start was because he deserved it (since he had some issue with motivation this summer). It really looked like Charlie was on the tip of his toes yesterday
And also for you, a translation of the part about Davies in the usual after-the-game-interview with the coach at hammarbyfotboll.se. If we speak about the football again, Charlie looked more alert than in a long time. But we're still waiting for his first goal in Allsvenskan. - Sometimes you can criticize him for not taking care of the chances he gets. But in this game, you can't blame him. However, it's almost hopeless for him. He doesn't have that flow in the finishes that you need to have. You have to get a goal through the post sometimes. I think that even though he doesn't score, he is the player of the pitch. He has worked very hard to develop and he showed that yesterday. What's important for him now is that he gives himself credit for yesterday, and at the same time patiently continues to work and take those small steps. Or at least something like that, they were a lot of swedish expressions in there, did my best with them.
{New emphasis.} He doesn't have that flow ... Now is not the time to get discouraged, but we were having a similar discussion nearly four months ago. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=537233&page=7 Here's the key post (=120), with my emphasis ... Life has gone on - four months of (admittedly variable) playing time - and the goals still aren't coming. Nevertheless, for some strange reason, I remain optimistic. Going overseas is a huge adjustment, and CD had some health issues layered on top of everything else. If he can find a way to remain positive (and get some more playing time), next year could be a breakout year. I'd love to see him get a goal or two this year, though, just to break the ice.
Of course he doesn't have "that flow." He's gone straight from college to a professional team that's competing (or had been, anyway) in the UEFA cup. What is he, 20 years old or something like that? Why should it be a surprise that he hasn't been bagging goals by the bushel? It sounds like he's gotten a lot better, both from a technical and tactical perspective. As long as he progresses, the goals will come, even if it doesn't happen until next season.
Taylor Twellman is 27 and he doesn't have that flow. But, at least, Hammarby coach understands this and will keep Charlie working on his "flow" (which probably means a quick spin around the ball and an accurate shot without much of a wind-up ... this "flow" is why Gerd Müller scored many of his goals ... the old line about Müller was that he could "turn inside four men in a phone booth" ... it's all about the footwork). This needs further translation ... from either Swedish or coach-speak. Were there a lot of IKEA references?
Okay, well, basically, Charlie needs some luck, but according to the coach he was the best player last night.
This was a much stronger argument at the beginning of the season than it is now at season's end. 21 and counting - he would have been a senior in college this year. By the bushel?!? We are asking for one, single, solitary league goal. Ok, two. Let's hope the goals come soon, ... 'Cause wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin' Plannin' and dreamin' some goals he will get That won't put the ball in the net. Maybe we should keep the focus on IKEA commercials instead.
