    Hello Ipswich fans,
I have been living over here in Colorado, USA for the past 46 years and have not kept up with the boys in blue and white I'm sorry to say. Became a fan of the local team here, Colorado Rapids, many years ago and was looking through Big Soccer and found this site. How are the lads doing this season? I just found out that the leagues are different now, you have a Premier League and a Champions league. Not sure I understand what the second one is. It used to be First Division,Second Division, Third Division back in the good old days when I lived there. Would appreciate if anyone would tell me where Ipswich is positioned right now and what their chances are.
    Thanks, and good luck Town.

Gee- a lot to catch up on!! :)

Ok you now have the Big Show- the Premier League (old 1st div), which you can relegated down to the Championship (old 2nd div), then down to League 1 (old div3), League 2 etc.

The last time Ipswich were in the Premier League was the 2001/02 season. They finished in 18th and last relegation place. Since then they've been in and around the playoffs to get back up, but havent quite got there.

02/03 they finished 7th- one spot out of the playoffs
03/04 they finished 5th- lost to West Ham in semis
04/05 they finished 3rd- lost to West Ham in semis
05/06 they finished 15th- after not getting promoted the previous year there was a lot of turnover of players who left chasing glory

and this year they are 15th with 17 games left.

Try reading this for a bit if catch up

Thanks for all the information, el-capitano, that was a great read. It seems to me that the Colorado Rapids and the Ipswich team appear to be very similar in that they are "always the bridesmaid and never the bride", although I think Ipswich have achieved a few more honors than our team here. We have a similar rivalry to the Ipwich/Norwich, we play against Real Salt Lake (or as we call them...False Salt Lake). It started 2 years ago and we play for the Rocky Mountain Cup. We have won the cup both years. We get to the semi-finals of the the MLS cup but never seem to get any further. Maybe this year will be the winner. We have a brand new Largest-In-The-World soccer complex that we will be playing in for the first time April 7th so our fans are pretty excited.
Thanks again for all the information,
    Cheers,
    Rabidratz

After a brave loss to Premiership club Watford in the FA Cup, Town have gone down to playoff hopefuls Wolves 1-0 at home.

They are now in 17th out of 24 on 39 points with the bottom three being on 31 & 32 points.

We are still ahead of Norwich by one place and two points, but they do have three games in hand.

Playoffs are 17 points and a +19 goal difference away :(

Hope the re-building worked for next year. :)

Thanks for the update. SOunds like the boys are struggling this year, kind of on a par with our Rapids here last year. We are hoping for a better year this season as we have the new stadium, new colors, and several new players. We'll just keep the faith for both teams to do well, OK?

Time for an update- 4 wins out of the last 5 games, the derby coming up against Scum at their bird cage, two more games after that, against Leeds and Cardiff.

We're currently in 14th on 57 points, (13 points out of the playoffs) Scum are 15th on 56 points.

Its going to be a big game for bragging rights.........:)

That 3-1 win at Portman Road was great and the win at Carrow road last season. lets hope we can make it 2 wins in a row at Carrow road. :D

Nice way to end the season, ending up ahead of Norwich :)

I think that Jon Walters and Franny Jeffers (if Ipswich sign him) will be excellent pickups. They've shown quite a bit of promise.

I think Jeffers has found his right league level- that makes four goals from 7 games or so- not a bad strike rate.

Would be a good signing for Town. :)

Thoughts for the new season? I saw one of my friends from Bury St. Edmunds recently, and he was very optomistic about the new season- he thinks top 6. He has a season ticket, so knows what hes talking about - more than me anyway!

I'm particularly interested in thoughts from folks who have seen the team recently...

Well, now thats what you call a start to the season! :)

    4-1 over the Owls.

After Jeffers decided Ipswich wasnt good enough for him, and deciding to join the Owls, the game was always going to have a bit of spice.

I thought Counago was a bad re-signing- but apparently he was on fire. If he can keep that up for the whole season, then its looking good for the boys.

I was also skeptical about Counago too, but he got a goal, that is important. Now we just need to hold on to Alan Lee, and I think they are well in line for a promotion push. Definitely think they will finish ahead of the C*n*ries too.

So what do we think. Can we take a playoff spot with our squad or are we still 2 years away from that

Good win to start the season but what happened in the Carling Cup with exactly the same team, ah well it let them know how it will feel after saturday.

Sorry to bother you guys, but there are rumors on the USA's California Victory forum that Ipswich Town is interested in gaining control of the American 2nd Division club.

    Anyone hear anything about that?

Alaves of Spanish league owns them now. Crystal Palace owns a USL/USA minor league team as well. Its not unheard of. I think many Euro clubs want to get into the American market.

Also, I believe some former Ipswich players live in the SanFran area and that might have something to do with the interest.

Well Town's away form is costing them at the moment. They are one win out of the playoffs at the moment with a game in hand, but 0-2-3 away from home isnt great form.

If Magic can start to steal a win or two away, they will be right up there.

    Current table.

You scummers need a few decent fans - but I never thought you'd go as far as moving your franchise to America.

I can't see us going down, but my pre-season expectations of a play-off challenge seem a bit far feched now. Still, at least we've got Delia and you've got Sheepshagg3r.

9 wins in a row at home, but we couldn't beat the bottom club (QPR) away.

    To explain please?

I'll re-iterate my previous comment - we are sh1t and are definitely going down. Shame really, as our biggest derbies will be with Luton and maybe Peterborough!
