The funny thing about that is when you watch a Seahawks game you actually see the faint soccer lines too. :) Oh look, Josh Brown is kicking it from the top of the penalty box circle

Yeah, my dad looked at me really strange, when I said "hey, that should've been a pk!"

He's not a footy fan. My mom would've got that joke.

Well as a RBNY fan, I'm very happy that Seattle looks likely to become the next MLS club after San Jose. Assuming they lay down natural turf at Qwest, that is a fine option in the short to medium term. Certainly better in just about every respect than Giants Stadium and JFK.

On top of all that, it's another excuse to visit my family in Maple Valley.

    Congratulations!

JFK? I didn't know that the NY Port Authority had a team playing at the airport. :D

:D RFK. JFK would actually be an improvement on Giants Stadium.

JFK was also the large Philadelphia stadium before the Vet - they had the original Live Aid there

Now the mods are Hating Seattle.

Bryan and the other Philly mods are so jealous of the pending Seattle announcement that they have now lost ALL objectivity and openly bash Seattle fans etc on the Expansion board. They have lost sight that everyone has said an SS would be the optimal thing for Seattle to have and focused only on the fact that we, the fans that will be the ones buying tickets and supporting the club, do not know what we are talking about when it comes to the stadium that MOST of us have visited several times. Nice work mods.

It seems that the majority of crying is coming form the other direction. You illustrated my point perfectly. Thanks.

Sorry, I'm not a robot. You won't see it in my moderation of your board and you won't see it in the main forum. However, I am a Philadelphia fan and feel very jealous that an exception is being made. I know all the arguments and if the shoes were on the other feet, I'd hope you feel as jobbed as we do, because it means you care. And I know you guys do, and Seattle will have a great core of support. But you mischaracterized where I posted in your original post. That thread is in the Philly forum.

Frankly, we felt jobbed in 2002, 2004...

Right now we are so giddy hoping that it's our turn that we might have forgotten about our nearly-terminal Bridesmaid role...

Hey I just spotted a Cheese Steak outfit going in next to Qwest.

    What does this mean?

Bryan, It showed up at the top of the Candidate cities listing. I assumed it was a general thread. Sorry to make that mistake. I can understand it a little easier now.

that's something we probably have in common. no titles since 1983, a NFL stadium "built for soccer", supposed to be in 1996, but Lamar's money got KC in. oh well, you guys deserve it and it makes sense.

I haven't been following the other threads in the Expansion forum or in the Philly forum, but at this point if people want to keep bashing then that's cool. All the intellectual discussion has already taken place that needs to take place.

Also, I agree with sounderfan that we got jobbed in 2004. RSL came out of nowhere. They claimed to have a stadium plan at the time, but then the Sounders also had potential stadium sites lined up. If RSL was never in the picture, maybe we'd already have a Seattle MLS team with their own stadium and a Euro-poseur name since that was the vibe with the ownership at the time.

Re: Now the mods are Hating Seattle.

I am jealous that the Phillies are in the playoffs and our Mariners are out of the post season for the 5th year in a row. ;) I am happy for Jamie Moyer, he is a stand up guy and did a lot in our community.

I can understand where you are coming from Bryan but try to understand, we have been trying to get into the league for at least 6-7 years now. I think we have a plan that is going to be really good and work for the league and us. You guys have a great plan and great fans but just because we don't have a nice picture of a SSS to present publically at this time does not mean we are less deserving or that someow we did something wrong by getting a franchise.

We has sat for years while we were passed up by the league that instead decided to award franchise to a city that already had one (Chivas) and another city that had little or no history of top flight professional soccer (RSL). The league then raised the franchise fee. Our efforts may not appear as organized as Sons of Ben or St Louis but our effort has been just as sincere and has been years in the making.

We have great fans and have an owner that has history in the area and a passion for soccer who has been willing to invest his own time and money to bring the Seattle Sounders back in 1995. His tireless efforts along with the fans that have supported soccer in this town and other partners with the same passion are the reason we will get a team. There is no sense of entitlement here. A lot of folks have worked very hard for many years to bring top flight soccer back to the people of Seattle.

Like I said before, you have great fans and a great supporters group. Philly is a great sports town, you are also deserving of an MLS team and I sincerely hope that it becomes a reality for you. Perhaps we can all meet when you guys come to Seattle to play the Sounders or whatever we are called. :)

For the sake of getting the BS stopped on BS it seemed to work. At least the mods have addressed the issue. BTW..... thanks mods.

    You wanna talk about haters.

I am sitting here watching GolTV and the program American Soccer. All three of them just hated on a Seattle MLS team at Qwest.

They said MLS should say thanks but no thanks to the Seattle group until there is a SSS plan - they talked alot about precedent i.e how can you make an exception with Seattle and then make Philly and others have a SSS plan.

They werent very nice about it.

They're not MAKING Philly and St. Louis do anything. Both cities lack a place to play otherwise. If they want a team they have to build a place to play. Qwest is already built.

    Oh! oh!

What would have been so cool, if Ray Hudson was on that particular show, is if he had totally gone off with some of his big sayings.

I wonder what it might have sounded like?

"Qwest Field is a monster in the mold of not Godzilla...no! I dare say in the mold of a Nuclear bomb for MLS! That's right gentleman, not the tennis-player kind of monster, but a real, balls left out on the pitch for the love of football and all that is good in Cambodia kind of monster!"

    That would have been cool.

They'd be saying the same thing about Portland if you'd gotten the nod. Yes! they would... Same old Biggie vs NWA. East Coast Bias.

Wake up Doom Town trendy, someone just stole your seat at the Doug Fir.

Incorrect, Philly could play at Franklin Field or Lincoln Financial, but at the cost of $2 million or more a year and without getting 100% of gate, parking, or concessions.
