The transfer market has officially closed so I figured I would post out roster: Goalkeepers: Doni Curci Julio sergio Difenders: Panucci Mexes Juan Tonetto Cassetti Ferrari Andreolli Antunes Cicinho Kouffur Midfielders: De Rossi Pizarro Aquilani Barusso Brighi Perrotta Giuly Esposito Pit Taddei Mancini Strikers: Totti Vucinic The only shame is not having dropped Kuffour for a thrid striker, and not having sent Curci to get some experience.
There's always room for those things to happen in the winter transfer window. Kuffour will undoubtedly get no pt so I wouldn't worry about that unless the sky starts falling. We'll add a third striker in the winter from a squad that isn't in the CL.
The only problem is that no one wants Kuffour, we sent him off to England to train with some team and they sent him right back to us.
Nonda wanted more playing time. He knew he wsa behind Totti and Vucinic. It was only a matter of time until Roma let him go.
Call me traditional, but I like to see a majority of Italians on Serie A teams. A few non-Italians balance things out nicely, but I don't like it when a team starts more non-Italians than Italians. *cough*Inter*cough* Sadly, while we're not there yet, I can see Roma headed in this direction.
Bah, as long as it doesn't get out of hand like it has with Inter as you pointed out, then I'm not too bothered by it. At least the foreigners we bring in are actually worthy of their spots on the roster. Sensi and Spalletti do seem to have encountered a bit of a Brazilian fetish over the last couple of years though
inter? ohh, you mean south-american all starss... yeah but really i do love seeing mostly italians on our lineup, and some of our south americans have italian last names (mancini, taddei) haha, makes our lineup look nice
Well, considering that we do represent the ITALIAN CAPITAL, it would only make sense for us to try and represent the populus as well as possible. One thing that you gotta love about our foreigners though is how much pride and love they show for that jersey and that club once they become part of it. It's like they become overwhelmed and consumed by the pride and magic that the city has. They almost seem like they were born and raised in Rome themselves!
That's true. And I definitely like the non-Italian players that we have. I just think we have enough. I've noticed this in their post/pre-match comments; they seem to really form a bond... except for Chivu. One thing that does scare me though (and this is true about calcio as a whole - not just Roma) is the number of Brazilians specifically. This is because: 1) I am still not over 1994. I know, I know. I should really just get over it, but I don't think I ever will, and as a result, it takes a lot for me to like a Brazilian player. 2) The members of the Brazilian Selecao basically have a chance to play together all the time, and subsequently never really lose the chemistry their national team is known for. This will make it even tougher next time the Azzurri have to play them.
I feel the same way. I don't necessarily care about other clubs, but it's nice to see majority of Italians on the field per team. I believe Palermo a couple years a go fielded 10 or 11 Italians. While Inter fielded just Matrix. Roma have many Brazilians, but at least we have the core of our players Italian. Totti, DDR, Perotta, Panucci, Tonetto, Aquilani.
I agree completely. In fact, I am dissappointed to see alot of high quality Italian talent (Cannavaro, Toni, Zambrotta, etc.) leave Calcio in recent years. I know some of that had to do with Juve getting dropped into Serie B for cheating. I think that is one of the reasons that Italy has been so strong in World Cups. They play together all year around. While it is nice to bring some players from different countries/leagues, I do prefer a larger Italian base. I am *very* pleased with the core Roma Team, but I agree that we have enough foreign players. I hope that Roma never fields a team comprised of mostly foreign players.
I could never support a team like Inter. Too many foreign players. But we will have Totti, Aquilani, De Rossi, Perrottta with us for a long time. We have a perfect team with youth and veterans/Italians/foreigners...hope we keep it that way for many more years.
