I agree with all of you about Buffon he really is world class.

    Sebastian Frey is amazing
and my new favorite Craig Gordon is too.

Lenham was pretty good but not anymore at all.

Congratulations on making the term 'world class' redundant. Whine all you wish but my point remains. Boruc is simply not good enough in terms of attributes and performances to be considered the best. Stop defending a clearly biased Celtic fan and get a grip.

That is the generally accepted top three, who are in a tier of their own.

    1. Buffon - consistency, loyalty to Juve, amazing saves at every level (including World Cup final)

    2. Casillas - kept Madrid alive through their barren years in recent times, the rest of the squad finally looks to be catching up and Iker still has his best years ahead of him

    3. Cech - hard to argue with his performances, has done brilliantly to come back from a serious injury as well

    4. Boruc - consummate professional apart from a few religiously-motivated incidents in the Old Firm derbies, a nice guy to boot. Amazing at penalty saves and will likely be in a bigger league in a few years.

I don't rate Reina or any of the German keepers at this level, people can point to Pepe's clean sheet record but that has a lot to do with Liverpool playing with a solid defensive mindset and two defensive midfielders (from Alonso, Masch, Alonso and occasionally Gerrard).

VDS had a great game last night, my opinion was wrong, he is in the top five goalkeepers in the world.

Your initial opinion was correct.:(, pirlo has really been annoying me lately with his comments on the cl being more important then the scudetto, i want to win the league., great free kick though, also we need to find some more milan fans for our forum.:(, do they show italian matches in America because they do here?

I was just kidding about the rashness. :p

as for the comments, serie a ain't like the epl. the difference in finances for winning the cl versus winning the scudetto is, well, huge. i mean we rested kaka, oddo, pirlo, and jankulovski to rest for the benfica game, which is a group stage game mind you. so pirlo is just telling the truth, and it shows in the play. if milan played like they did versus benfica in serie a, siena would have been shellacked by the 30th minute.

as for serie a in america, this season 4 games a week are shown on fsc, though the time slots on saturday, serie a plays on delay as epl takes precedent (in america epl is king, so i don't blame them, it's smart business). so yeah, no having to scramble for streams as much as the past few years. plus there is a service for some asian countries and the us where you can have live and on-demand every single serie a and most coppa italia matches for like $100 the whole season, so it is not so bad across the pond. :D

Sebastian Frey is underrated, probably better than Dida. Fiorentina do have a good defense but Frey has saved games for them on many occasions. I just don't understand why Landreau played against Italy and not him.

Osvaldo Sanchez isn't even the best in his own country. Ochoa is better than he is at this point.

I'd say Cech and Buffon in a toss up. While I don't think he's the best, Friedel deserves a mention in the discussion. I'd say he's top 10 even if he doesn't play internationally any more.

I dont know how many of you watch international friendlies outside of Europe and/or watched Copa America...but Ochoa is a beast between the posts! I wouldn't rate him top 5 yet by any means but with a bit more experience he very well could be. For anybody in Europe that hasn't seen him (since many in the Americas would agree with me), he has a youth/talent combination on par with Akinfeev, maybe better IMO.

It's too bad he may never go to Europe to get even more experience due to the fact that he is an icon in Club America and the MFL dont let their players go too easily...:(

The man makes a solid case. :)

Honestly though, based on their pure keeping skills Cech would take it, but when it comes to penalties, Reina is in a class of his own.

His 'performances' for Liverpool resulted in him first sitting on the bench and then leaving on a free without much fuss. Now he is sitting on the bench at Real Madrid. Why you thought to mention Dudek, of all people, in a thread intended to discuss the best keepers and ultimately identify the best is beyond me.

boruc is pretty good at pens as well.

but until he leaves celtic for a bigger, better league then he isn't going to be recognised as one of the best in the world but i believe he has the potential to be.
