If US Soccer continues to ignore Adu, could we lose him?

You have the order wrong, sorry. Prove yourself at your club, get nats time. Not the other way around...

Michael Bradley - 2005: impact starter for NYRB, 2006: impact starter for Heerenveen
Benny Feilhaber - 2005: Hamburg's reserves, 2006: stuck in Hamburg, but clearly looking for bigger challenge (EPL)

Sal Zizzo - getting 1st club experience with Hannover this season
Kamani Hill - 1/2 season with Wolfsburg so far
Charlie Davies - getting 1st club experience with Hammarby this season
Lee Nguyen - getting 1st club experience with PSV this season

My point should be obvious, but I want to reiterate that every guy on your list has a serious shot at being an impact player for the US in 2010 depending on how their club experience and subsequent opportunities with the NT work out over the next 12 months...

well Bradley was not an impact starter when he was starting at the Gold Cup this summer...

and Feilhaber didn't prove himself at Hamburg or Derby either

my point is those guys got call ups without proving themselves on any professional level...

I agree with you if it is for WCQ spots... but for this year, its best to just bleed in young guys who have potential and see...

also, what have those guys done to warrant their first call up that Adu has not?

Bradley was starting for Heereveen by the end of the '05-'06 season, helping them to a UEFA Cup spot. At that point he got called into camp for the Nats, but didn't play. Then he was a regular starter for his club for the entire '06-'07 season, which earned him caps in which he took maximum advantage.

Obviously Feilhaber has less first team experience, but at least he has 2 seasons of professional soccer development under his belt. His unfortunate situation vis-a-vis playing time at Hamburg was well known. I think the reason he got a shot (which everyone here should admit he took full advantage of) was the '05 Youth World Cup. That got him to camp, where he impressed (but like Bradley, did not play), which kept him in the coachs' minds for the almost 2 years before he was actually capped in March. The rest, as they say, is history.

Regardless, of the other guys only Hill had even stepped onto the pitch for a professional match before this summer.

The cycle is still quite young. I think you'll see several of these kids getting opportunities between now and the end of next summer.

My guess? They told the coach they were ready.

I'm of the school of thought that if Adu wanted a cap this fall he could have had it, but chose (correctly) to focus on earning his spot on the Benfica squad first.

Bradley did not start the entire 2006-7 season... Paul Bosevelt was the starter... it was seen that Bradley was the heir apparent, but Bradley went a few months without even making an appearance for Heereveen... point is, he was not playing...

Adu has 4 seasons of professional experience under his belt... Szetela has 4 years also... what is your point? and Feilhaber was on the bench in the winter of 2005 at Hampden Park against Scotland... he may have gotten on the bench because of his u20 performance then... but it makes no sense how 2 years of not playing regularly would get him capped

err... Hill played several times last season for Wolfsburg's first team... played as much as the other guys but he never proved anything and has not scored a goal for them...

I'd rather see the kids get capped in the friendlies now... WCQ starts next fall... we don't have that much time left...

so you can tell Bradley you are ready for a cap, and he will give it? I might try that...

as for Adu, you may be right... but its just odd to me... I do not see why he would have said no to the Sweden game...

    Irrational ^^

There is no order. There is no formula. Talent is talent. There are players on ManU's bench that never play who would be better than many MNT starters. You can't predict these things. Adu may not get much PT on Benfica b/c it's a very competitive club.

Listen to folks like you, we lose talent. Can't afford that. We're the US...decent team, but not to the point where we can be arrogant or picky. Embrace all promising youth talent.

As his one goal in 19 MLS starts this year proved conclusively.

Because as we all know, ALL of the best players from the U20 WC are now appearing with their senior national teams.

    Like.....well, take for example....um.......nevermind.

Personally, I HOPE he goes and plays for Ghana. That way we can stop having these idiotic debates about a very marginal, undersized head case who'll never be anything more than a journeyman pro.

I usually take Bill's hyperbole with more than a pinch of salt, but you're mistaken if you think you know more about soccer than he does...

How does that explain it all? I think half the nitwits the Crew forum are, well... nitwits. Just like every other forum.

You're painting with a broad brush there.

And my statement stands, based on posting history, not which team someone supports.

I give you more credit because you don't just spew ignorance om the School of Bill O'reily style like Archer... you have sense...

but Archer does not... Ive read his posts and he rarely has an accurate point... and then many of the crew fans follow suit... I wont say all are like that... but judging by the posts in that forum that I have read, plus what ohter posters have said... JuanP isn't that far off..
