It was announced today that LA Galaxy will be playing against Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand early December. Even more interesting is the fact that LA Galaxy will recieve $2 Million for the exibition. Just to note: - Manchester United and Real Madrid demanded around $1 Million per exibition match here in the states. The worst team in MLS will get paid twice that in New Zealand. - The Wellington game officially makes their Oceania trip a tour. They first have the exibition in Australia's national stadium against Sydney FC on Nov. 27th, then will spend around four days gettin' their kiwi on in NZ. There's links from press all over the world on this story; here just a couple... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/2007-09-17-1242395823_x.htm http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/sports/view_article.php?article_id=89240 http://sportal.co.nz/default.aspx/Football-news-display/beckham-headed-for-wellington-35779
So after all the talk about Beckham... Is he or isn't he coming to Houston for the Home Dynamo game? Just a question, anybody?
I've had this feeling he's going to play here. It would be cool to have him here, though I don't really care......
I've heard from several sources that Beckham has stated he plans to play again tis season, but . . . .
I doubt it. According to Beckham, Beck's doctors said he was going to be out for 8-10 weeks. Beckham said he expects to be back 6 weeks after the injury, and that's still at least a week after the Dynamo game. There's really no reason why Beckham would have to rush it back to Galaxy before he's 100% and risk injury if Galaxy has nothing to play for this season, and if the $$$ overseas exibitions in Australia and New Zealand are riding on him playing a majority of each game.
You know, if my season were coming to a close and I felt like playing, I'd put in a few minutes. Don't know how bad his knee is really, but if I felt like it, I'd go for it.....
Well I'm off to RES to see the Beckham-less Galaxy take on the almost as bad RSL Lions. Please let this be a good game. Pretty much $30 down the drain most likely. Living in SLC, I buy a pack to go the two Dynamo games. To get the discount, I have to buy 10 tickets. Since I only need 3 for each Dynamo game I bought 4 to this one. I guess I could have gone to see Eddie Johnson, Blanco, JPA or whomever but I chose this one. That's the way the cookie crumbles I guess.
you could have looked back two pages in this thread - the reports after his MRI after the injury against Pachuca were 6 to 8 wks. Best case scenario was 10/13, so certainly out for Houston game. There have been no reports of a miracle recovery. when Beckham was interviewed last Thu during the Chivas game, he wouldn't commit to any date for his return, but I took that as being noncommittal as to being back even for the last 3 games of the season from 10/13 onward. Especially given the G's being all but mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs. 2-2 result tonight at RSL...
Notimex is reporting that Beckham re-injured himself in practice yesterday. doesn't say the extent of the injury, but that he may be scratched from the probables today. has anybody heard anything?
Shelby Hodge mentioned in her Chronicle column today (see below) that Becks and Victoria were in Houston over the weekend. "Victoria and David Beckham checking in over the weekend at Hotel ZaZa, where they stayed under the radar. If you know why they were in town, e-mail me, please. . . . " Any idea why they would be in Houston?????
I think they might have been in town for the medical center. Dre mentioned this to me on AIM and my first thought was about their second son, Romeo. He's been known to have a pretty bad seizure disorder, so maybe they came down here to get an opinion on him. The Chron doesn't mention if the kids were with them. Dre looked up the hotel and said it was close to the Medical Center. Just my thoughts, as it had to have been something important for her to jet away from Spice Girls rehearsals in LA to come to Houston. I don't think it was for a vacation. Anyway, I'm sad. I want to be in Houston when Victoria is. Though Dre said he'd be scared for her safety.
I wish they were never hounded by the paparazzi. But yeah. I know Romeo's condition gets really bad when the press are flashing cameras at him; David's came out publicly to ask the press to please leave his children alone. Maybe them coming to Houston was about being left alone, plus the excellent medical facilities we have. Then again, they could also be talking about buying the Dynamo.
Re: Dynamo adidas 2008 gear (pic-heavy) Yep. I helped out MLS in the mainstream sports market. Now Sports Authority is serious about carrying soccer gear. Now people take notice of MLS because Becks has sold more jerseys than the big 3 sports in this country combined.
Re: Dynamo adidas 2008 gear (pic-heavy) I guess you mean worldwide. Do you have a source that backs this up? I'd be interested in knowing the total number of football, basketball, and baseball jerseys sold. Remember, you said "big 3 sports", not leagues, so we have to count all professional, college, and high school jerseys in all three of those sports.
Re: Dynamo adidas 2008 gear (pic-heavy) I can't find the other articles but I did find this that sort of backs my claim. http://www.examiner.com/a-872417~Beckham_boosts_jersey_sales.html?cid=rss-Baltimore
