I can definitely agree with you along the lines of the Cup being here this year. It'll provide a big plus to the stadium deal, and it's also just always nice to win something like that at home.

Of course, I'd still like to win the SS, very, very much. Securing that berth for the CCC before the playoffs even start would make me very happy.

and it means another star on the uniform and another banner on the wall. MLS Cup is the primary goal every year. The other stuff is just extra.

Some people here have a poor understanding of chronology. The SS is number one priority NOW. Once the SS is decided, we shift our attention to MLS cup. If Payne and Soehn chose to sacrifice one for the other, they're really doing a disservice to the fans and the players. I don't think that's what DC United is about.

Now winning elsewhere would certainly be nice, and winning some matches against Mexican, Central or South American clubs will help placate all MLS fans inherent inferiority complex when compared to other leagues, but the MLS Cup is our F'ing league championship!

If the game was being played on the Ross Ice Shelf, the MLS Cup should still be every teams #1 priority.

Did I have a stroke or something, has everyone gone crazy, or am I just totally lost on the point of everyones posts?

Don't give me the timeline crap either, from day one of every season, the goal needs to be the league championship. All else is extra.

to me id rather win the sudamerican every year other than mls cup every year except this year as its at home and we need to win at home for so many reasons, aka. stadium problems, all that stuff....
the copa and SS have much more with it outside the MLS that is good for both dc united to get foreign players and also to promote dc united abroad, plus i mean come on, winning the sud. would be the biggest win ever!!! more so then the vasco match for the interamericana cup.
    just my opinion

Stonesean is correct (great seans think alike)

I want the MLS Cup first and foremost. It's the league championship. Let's face it, DCU were not champs last year, Houston was.
Plus, being at RFK means it will be the most fun to win for us fans.

well, not going full out for the SS at this point would be like being ahead in a long distance race then slowing down near the finish, so you can save energy for tomorrow's sprint race. we're in first, we're on a roll, a bird in the bush is worth two in the hand and all that.

and none of that contradicts the idea that the MLS Cup is the biggest domestic prize.

Also, the SS helps with playoffs, as playing 3 of 4 post-season games at home makes them less of a crapshoot.

That said, I care much more about winning the MLS Cup at RFK than winning the SS, and if we lose the SS to a Western conference team but still get home-field advantage in the East, I wouldn't be as disappointed as I would be if we don't win the Cup.

I'm very torn about this. There are good arguments to be made for preferring either the SS or the MLS Cup.

I think the team should simply do the right thing and win them both. Don't they owe me that peace of mind?

Here's what I think. Every season I have hopes of us going undefeated and winning MLS Cup. Every loss along the way feels like someone murdered my dog, and every tie like I was kicked in the nuts.

If you aren't out to win every game you play in you don't belong in a United shirt.

I expect United to play to win every frigging game they suit up for. It doesn't always happen that way, but no matter who they put on the field for any given game they should be playing to win, period.

This weekend against Chicago we are missing Olsen, Gomez and Fred, yet I expect us to play to win and I honestly think we will win. Who's going to stop Emilio? Not Chicago.

And I don't care if we brought a lineup like this:

    Addlery--Kpene
    Gros--Dyachenko--Carroll
    Simms
    Burch-Boswell-McT-Namoff
    Perkins

That's most of our starters and should be good enough a lineup that we play to win no matter if it is against the Revs or the Raptors (or whatever the Canucks call themselves)

We've got five games left, we should aim for 15 points, rotation or no rotation. In the Playoffs, we need to go 4-0 and if we play NY in the Eastern Finals we go for a 4 goal win.

Message to the rest of MLS: All your MLS Cup are belong to us.
