Fulham site has Dempsey on main page voted Player of the Month for August http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2007/September/PlayerofMonthDempsey.aspx Interesting comment on playing forward: “I’ve been watching Brian (McBride), who is a more experienced player and does a better job in the air, but through watching him and playing more I hope to be successful in that position for as long as I’m on the field."
If Dempsey earned the POM award can we give Fulham the "No Shit, Sherlock" award? There hasn't been a lot for Fulham to cheer about recently but there is no question Clint has been the bright spot. He's earned his stripes and Fulham will need him to be on top of his game to avoid the drop zone.
It's that brilliant Euro coaching that can take a worthless American player and in 6 months make him a great one.... Or BS completely over reacts when players move from an out of season MLS team to a mid-season Euro team and have difficulty cracking the lineup.
ding-ding-ding... we have a winner.... though i'd also give some credit to him adjusting to the pace of the english game and living across an ocean
He sounds humble and likeable in the interview. Is this the kid who got into a fist fight with his own teammate a couple of years ago? Rumor has it that he can be difficult to manage. Either that is false or he is getting smarter while he is getting better. Maybe Mcbride is teaching him things beyond head balls.
Well he squared off with Joe Franchino and who hasn't wanted to kick his ass? Apparently, it was a true fight and not shoving match! Clint is as passionate and competitive as anyone if not more and I think he rubs elbows with a few folks. But that's not uncommon and is never a real reflection of who he is. He seems like a stand up guy who's a great teammate and better person. I'm sure he has mellowed a bit as he's grown older. I believe his recent marriage has help curve that as well. Although for me it would make me insane!
Don't misunderstand my post. I think he is great. I am hoping that talk of him being hard to manage is baseless. I think m vann's interpretation of events is right but of course I don't have first hand knowledge.
I had a chance to see Dempsey play at the Gold Cup this year in Chicago and he just seemed a bit on the apathetic side during post-game...even after the win in the final. In most cases, in soccer or anything else, its all about the mindset. A well-deserved player of the month award and for those that may want to read it, there's an interview with Dempsey at the bottom left side of the page. http://americansoccernews.net/
Very candid take on the Bouazza signing. Refreshing to hear an honest take and not a preprogrammed response.
I thought Dempsey was our best player in the group stage of the Gold Cup, but that his play dropped significantly after that. It's a lot more understandable for me now, after reading that.
Dempsey is EPL's 7th best player according to the Actim index. Is this the highest ranking an American ever been on the Actim index? http://www.pa-sport.com/en/actim/actim-index-premier.html
Nah, I think Claudio Reyna was 1st on there after a few games a couple seasons ago. edit: But, for those who care about this stuff, Dempsey is the second best midfielder on the official Fantasy League site and by far the best value purchase on there too.
Shouldn't there be a separate Fulham thread in this forum? I'm watching Chelsea vs. Fulham right now and the Americans so far look good. Keller made some fine saves and Boca & Clint look lively too. Granted only 30 minutes have passed.
There is a thread for each Fulham game in the Gameday forum, and sometimes in the main Fulham forum as well.
I know about each game day thread. I just figured we should have one Fulham thread on the USA thread considering we have 4 American players on that club.
Can someone provide a link directly to this interview? I missed it and can't find it on this website.
