Surely the boy deserves his own thread, there's one for Jermaine Pennant ffs, anyway, here's to England's soon to be leading goalscorer, get in there my son.
Owen is\a world class goal-poacher, this can't be denied. Respect to Heskey too - the funny thing is he has always performed for England, always been a team player and always paraded the grit and determination the moronic bar stool Sun readers crave. The media and fans alike only now notice the effect he has on a side given the lack of cohesion in recent teams. Heskey to a side is like syntax is to language, he helps glue it together whether attacking or defending. The standing ovation in both games was well over the top, UNLESS it was in the form of a collective apology. Which perhaps it was, even if not consciously so. The fact of the matter is Heskey has performed countless times like that for England in the past. Should he remain in the side, people will forget the stark change he brought and will be groaning about his lack of goals, shouting that he shouldnt even be on the pitch let alone standing to applaud him as he makes his way off it. Wankers.
Owen is a world class striker, although an unlucky one when it comes to injuries. I was surprised to read how many English fans seemed to write him off.
Yeah, that really surprises me. He may have lost pace, but he's adapted his game and he's still so far ahead of the likes of AJ, Defoe, and Bent in terms of penalty box movement and finishing. Edit: Speaking of Owen adapting his game, perhaps with him dropping deeper we'll see if he has a greater passing range than he's shown previously in his career. The ball to Rio was fairly simple if well spotted, but he also had an impressive pass over the top to J. Cole iirc that lead to Joey having a decent chance, as well as one to SWP earlier. I wonder if he's been working on that part of his game.
In terms of goal scoring Mikey Owen knows where to be, what to do and how to do it. What he has lost in pace he has replaced with steadiness and technique. Very impressive, not to mention timely, of late.
Michael Owen- World Class Striker when fit and healthy. Clinical finisher. And most of all, gentleman and class act...
model professional possibly the best in the biz when it comes to a direct chance shame about his injuries
He's always been a big game player too....IIRC he scored vs Argentina in 98....vs Romania in euro 2000....vs Brazil in 2002.....vs Portugal in 2004....these games all eliminated England (two on pk's....Owen scored the only one he took)....but Owen did his job. He has scored multiple times against Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany (at least nine goals I believe against these four) and now he is approaching his best once again....and provided he stays out of injury trouble....his slight loss of pace seems to have been more than compensated by his increased pitch awareness, experience and feel for the game.
that would be some trick as he wasn't even on the pitch for the pk shootout in 2004 and did not take one.
No? Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_2004#Quarter-finals says otherwise, but you can never be too sure...
IIRC, he scared the hell out of the Brazilian backline during the first half in 02. Sadly, it was a totally different game after England conceded its first goal.
There's absolutely no doubt that little Owen will reach 50 by or during the Euro's. When he played for Madrid he had the highest goals per game in la liga that season. Probably why Raul did all he could to get rid of him. Wanker! Little Owen is praying mantis in the box! Total legend and a credit to the 3 Lions!
To the poster that put the video up of Michael Owen damaging his knee: Very unnecessary. No one wants to re-live that. Thanks.
The strike of a mantis is much faster than any cat. Something tells me you dont have animal planet at your gaff
Always defended Michael Owen. People are always like, blah blah, he only has pace. Absolute horse shit. Pace has never been Owen's best quality. His best qualities are, and always have been his ability to put himself in to goal scoring positions, his finishing, and his heading. What a great player. I never lost faith in you, St. Michael.
