hey everyone, just wanted to have an open brainstorm for some ideas to promote the effort, anyone going to any games in the near future? regardless of sport, maybe bringing along some small paper flyers with the URL and basic info, or even a mid sized banner to hold in the stands, any other ideas?
My take: Organize a serious lobbying effort directed at the directors of Ipswich Town. If they are seriously entertaining the thought of taking over the Vics, then that will be your best shot at survival. While I truly admire the grass roots fundraising effort, I just can't see that avenue working in the short window (a few weeks) the USL has granted for keeping the Vics alive in 2008. Efforts such as these take months to gain momentum and to properly organize the group. So, if this Ipswich Town thing is serious, get a petition going. Send the directors gift baskets from The City by the Bay. Show them that your group is well-organized and willing to help the transition from one ownership group to another. Maybe send them a marketing plan for the off-season. It's great to have passion, but exhibiting that passion through solid business tactics is even more impressive to a group of potential investors.
well there are some rumours floating around of potential CA based investors that would be interested in a combination with Savethevictory.org's efforts and co-ownership, just rumours at the moment
Great idea. That makes the most sense at this point. It may even be possible to solicit other Euro clubs. We need to get organized ASAP before this opportunity slips away. Long term this would be a great opportunity for a Euro club -- obviously San Francisco is a premier market and there is plenty of potential for growth.
Something else that you might want to do is approach some of the various soccer publications; ie Soccer America, 90 Minutes, Soccernet, Four Four Two. And work with them to do an article about the SavetheVictory effort.
