http://www.delcotimes.com/WebApp/ap...ontent=/DCT/Opinion/HeadlineList_Story_669162 Seems like Mr. Kirkland's concerns have been answered.
"State Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland, D-159 of Chester, complained last week that it was wrong to build a sports complex when the city has substandard schools and doesn’t even have a recreation center for local youth. On Wednesday, the city responded to one of those complaints by announcing it will provide $2 million to match state and private funds to build a new Boys and Girls Club at Seventh and Madison streets. The new facility is expected to feature a computer lab, classrooms, tutorial space, indoor basketball courts, a general activities area and more. When it’s built, that will be one more brick in the foundation of the city’s renaissance."
Sounds like the City REALLY wants the MLS deal to happen so they were willing to quickly toss that $2 million at Thad.
i dont think people throw 2 mill around at the drop of a hat...it sounds like they were planning this and the rep was just playing the political game by complaining to make it look like he did something big for his district.
Also, if you guys aren't reading it everyday already, you should read the Delco Times editor's blog. Phil Heron's blog, the Heron's Nest, is very complimentary of the stadium and push to bring soccer to Chester.
