Beninho is having a career year and Allen Hopkins, roving sideline reporter for ESPN is stating that Benny should be in consideration for the MVP award. Obviously, this article should help the campaign. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=461871&root=mls&cc=5901 All I can say is Benny will keep bringing it every game and I hope he is actually up for consideration. Maybe he should have gotten married a couple of years ago! Giv'em hell Benny!
Hell yeah he's MVP.......Most Valuable Pest. No other pest in the league contributes as much or means as much to his team as Benny.
To answer that question we need to know the number of fans in NY and NE. average that number, take 80% of that figure for each remaining team, and you will have your answer.
He would then become the first player in league history to win the Rookie of the Year and the MVP award. Free trivia for y'all.
I love to read the Red Bull and Rev posters on how they hate Benny (although they are actually just jealous). Watched and re-watched the sideline play where Benny burned the Revs this weekend. Classic Benny-gets up and hustles us an assist, blows Nicol's mind.
He won't get MVP but Best XI is a strong possibility. Come to think of it, while we were sleeping, Gomez, after coming on slow is having a decent season too...7 goals and 8 assists (not last years numbers but very good nonetheless). I would love to see Emilio, Olsen, Gomez and Fred on the Best XI, but we will probably only see two (Emilio and Olsen)...MAYBE three (Fred gets left off). Our guys that are having great "quiet" seasons...Benny, Gomez, Fred, Burch, even Simms to a degree. Meaning Lucy's million goals jumps out at you, but these guys contributions are just as important.
If you're taking the term "Most Valuable Player" literally, we are something like 18-2-7 when Simms starts
Judging from the tv -- RBNY has about 20 fans and NE about 100. Actually, I think the Philadelphia team has more fans than RBNY.
I get knocked down, but I get up again... Ben is the man! usually players in his role do not get MVP awards, though, so I am hoping Emilio gets it.
Can I get the MVP then? DCUnited wins almost every time I go to watch them play. On the road, they are 2-0 with me in attendance (MLS Cups 96 and 99 at Foxboro).
Well, keep going then! DC United will have to make sure that you have your airline tickets as well as your match tickets!
Why not? There's no other right mid in the league that has his numbers. There's really also no other central attacking mid in the league that has Gomez's numbers. And when I think about it Fred's numbers are among the best for left mids. So we have the most dangerous midfield, the best goalscorer this season, the alltime MLS goals leader and the 3rd best defense in MLS. Good year to be a DC fan.
As much as I love Benny. I think he comes in second in the MVP award voting. He as always is the team MVP, but I feel Emilio gets the league MVP. Benny will get his chance to get his 2nd MLS Cup MVP award.
I don't see Benny being able to compete for MLS MVP, they prefer someone flashy who scores alot of pretty goals to be their MVP. But team MVP, that is seriously a realistic thing. Sure Emilio will top all the scoring categories, and his addition has been great - but Benny is the engine that makes this team run. Just watch the team when he doesn't start, then look at the same team when he comes in off the bench. Of course, the same could be said about Moreno using that criteria, the team is better when they are on the field.
3 of Benny's goals have been pretty damn flashy. The long bomb volley he hit in his hat-trick against RBNY. Another long volley against the Revs, and I'm blanking on the 3rd, but I remember there being a 3rd golazo.
Just as he did on the SI, on WaPo Live Benny said Luci, Gomez and Moreno are three players on the team more deserving.
I like where Mike Wise brought up this very thread when asking Benny about him being considered for MVP
