If US Soccer continues to ignore Adu, could we lose him?

For the 10 millionth time, Freddie Adu and Michael Bradley do not play the same position. At all.

I think you should have said "SHOULD" (all caps), since common sense and pragmatism seems to skip past the powers that be at the USSF!

There are many people within the soccer community not so happy about Adu's attitude. He came to USA when he was 7, he learn to play here in the USA, so he is a product of this country...He need to declare his unconditional allegiance to this country no BS

That's not true. Under the rules, U-x matches + senior friendlies cap-tie a player.

There's currently some controversy that FIFA didn't mean that to be the case. But that's how the rule is written. Nobody who has read the rule thinks otherwise. Even the FIFA guy(s) don't claim otherwise. They just say FIFA wrote the rule poorly.

Alright, well I was misinformed through an article I read earlier this year related to the Adu case from SI.com. Thank you for the clarification.

Thank You, really I am tired of people saying that Bradley is taking Freddy's position. He is not. In any formation you need a good defensive midfielder that will win the 50/50 balls, break up plays, and tackle. You need someone to do the dirty work. mastroeni will be too old in 2010. The only other option in 2010 is ricardo clark. I like clark but at 20 bradley is a great prospect and I think he is the best young defensive midfielder around. if anyone is taking adu's spot it's Benny Feilhaber, don't forget an up and coming Sacha kljestan. i like freddy adu but he still hasn't contributed anything on a club level. I still think he needs to prove himself on that level. He needs to have a big year at benfica to steal feilhaber's spot on the team.

He isn't the only option. Just one of a potentially very good class.

honestly, what has Benny done on the club level to justify his spot?

and I think both Freddy and Benny could work in a 4-3-3... or with Freddy playing withdrawn...

I don't think we need to worry because I think Freddy might be trying to focus on achieving full time Benfica starting line up. By later this year he will play for the US, and will do well plus along with him, Donovan, and Dempsey they all pretty much play the same role. Which is also good because now we can have one of the two that might push Donovan, and push each other further. So I would not worry at all these guys will help each other become better, and also Freddy will push Beasley, Convey, and Mapp in the LM/LWM so we got some comp every where except the Forward Position. This is good for the US in the long run, and I expect to see Adu to do well also for the US.

    It's just a warning shot I guess.

Look, hopefully we've all gotten over the fact that at 14, he wasn't pele in adult leagues. Hopefully we've all gotten over the fact that this little kid was making more money, getting more playing time, and getting more publicity than grizzled veterans.

What's remained true during all of it is that Adu is a very talented player, at least as talented as some of those getting call ups for the ntl team.

He's 18, he's actually gotten bigger, he put on the best show in the U-20 world cup, and the real world cup is closer than you might think. Act on him now. If I were him, I wouldn't tolerate being passed up too many more times.

he didnt put on the best show, that goes to Aguero, but he was very good nonetheless, I'd like to see on the NT, I know National Teams arent the place to build players but Freddy should be included so that Benfica can see what he can do, otherwise hes gonna be sitting on a bench waiting for a chance, if he dazzles in the Int level they may play him more, otherwise hes going to be a wasted talent, also yes hes young but lets be honest, the next WC is 3 years away and seeing how there isnt an infinite number of games the NT gets to play the sooner we can get the youth into the main team the better
