I'm a Barra member. Love the Barra. Love the flags. I also love where I stand, in my season ticket seats in section 231. I know that in the past you all have made a much appreciated effort to keep your flags down when play is on our end of the field. But it hasn't been working lately. Even standing all game as we do, every game, we miss a lot of the action because several flag holders forget or just don't know to put down the flags. It sucks. I'm not alone in knowing about this problem, although I may be the only one to post here. I know I'll catch a lot of $hit but can you please just try to be a little more aware of the thousands of people who's view you are blocking when the flags are up and the play is on our side? Thanks. Flame away...

Did you know the Barra card works really well for opening doors that are locked but not deadbolted?
    I knew you would.

I stoped saying it since noone complained in a while so I thought we finally broke everyone's spirit by now :( hopefully we're not in same situation in new stadium as there are many cool things we thought of doing that we can't since we're in middle of other fans, we'll have to learn to live with each ther till then

You'll be happy to know no flags Wednesday :D

To those whos view was blocked, sorry. BUT... if I see the other big flag go up then i'm putting mine up. My understanding is quite simply views will be blocked from time to time in our section & that's the way it is. Thats what i've learned in my first season here in the Barra. To quote my old Drill Sgt., " Suck it up & drive on! HOO-AH!!"

People go to watch the games? Huh, I thought that was what Tivo was for.;)
I'm with Naptown, I try to keep mine down (when I'm there) during action but sometimes if they all go up I do too. I'll try to be more mindful in the future.

If you try that pesky "reading" thing, you'll notice this was brought up by someone outside your section. :)

I used to be in row 3 of section 231 and was always being told to sit the hell down (once in a while I even did) - I think it's great to hear they mostly stand up there now :D

I agree. I think the ultimate goal should be to have the whole "non-quiet side" be full of people who are standing and who don't mind missing part of the action because some badass flags are being waved in front of them. In the meantime, there's obviously going to be a long transition period where seats that used to be fine if all you want is to sit and see the game (which I understand 100%) gradually turn into more supporter-friendly seats. The good thing is, there will always be the quite side and, hence, space for different types of experiences.

Make that three. When I actually get a flag (;)), that's how I roll too.

Then, Chico steals my flag. :(

There is a very easy solution to that, give him a beer instead!

If that doesn't work (under extreme circumstances), try giving him a shot of the Captain (guaranteed to work!).

Glad to see we are giving this thread the response it deserves.

Judging by the massive amount of TV time CSN spent visually masturbating over the flags I have to think someone who posted here is in the minority...

Please be sure to send all complaints to United next year when they use the same pictures of flags of the Barra Brava in their MLS CUP victory season ticket ad campaign.

--And now for something completely different... :D

Flag wavers should maximize flag waving during stoppages and minimize flag waving during run of play. It's pretty simple.

The Barra adds lots atmosphere and color to the RFK experience but most people do come to the games primarily to see the actual game.

Foul! There is absolutely no doubt that this is a red card offense.

I agree with this completely. Look, you folks waving the flags don't have people in front of you during the run of play waving flags in front of you. Suggest before you make your mind up on this issue, that you come stand with us for a few minutes in the 200 level. It gets old fast. Like I said, I'm all for the flags, all for the atmosphere, but not during play, at least not when it's on that end.

Chico's photo doesn't show us when that celebration was taking place, but I suspect it was AFTER a goal was scored, not right about when it was going to be scored. That would be great if there were more flags to use at that point. Maybe it was taken before the match. Who knows. i love it, but I seriously doubt it was during the run of play. I've seen matches in central america. They put that sh!t down. I'm the worlds biggest proponent of smoke bombs - think they should be put under every seat before a game, but in the end actually SEEING the game is more important!

I feel for people who buy tix through ticketmaster and didn't know what they were getting into, but people who have had season tickets for a couple years I have no sympathy for. I imagine when people get season tickets, they've been to a game before and therefore know where we are and what we do. For people who want to be near the Barra and enjoy are energy, but not necesarily be a part of it need to understand it's ALL or NONE! Drumming, jumping, and singing go along with flag waving, beer throwing, and (accidental) smoke. If people can't handle ALL of those things, they are welcome to move somewhere else and have NONE of those things. They can't be separated.

Trying to only wave the flags when play is on the other side still blocks people's view. Just people in different sections. So when can they be waved? People want to see free kicks, so it's hard to do them for a foul. Doing it only after goals is too seldom. I imagine flag wavers do try to wait until play is on the other side, but a quick turnover could bring the play right down to our side and if the flag just went up, it should be waved for a bit. Also, people waving the really big flags usually look up at the thing. It's hard to wave those things well and it takes a bit of concentration, so they may lose track of play and not see the quick turnover. But I could be wrong on this. Maybe flag wavers like Jairo and JoeSoccer can weigh in on that.

To the thread starter, you can always move your seats next year to be more towards midfield and be behind the Eagles, who don't wave flags. You should have a clear sight line all game and still be near SOME of the noise and atmosphere.

Uh, I'm in the second row and even I have folks in front of me waving flags. Not that I mind them at all, just stating fact.

    I'm callin' shenanigans here.
