    Hello!

I know you guys have a lot of talents. But I don´t know too much about them, besides the best known, such as Dos Santos, Guardado and Vela.

But to the squad that was selected to the games against Brazil and Panama there are many youngsters. How do you rate this players? Are your National Team going for a younger team in the time to come?

I think this looks very interesting. So please fill me in on some of the players. I know that many of these players probably have played with the U17 and U20 teams the past years.

Here are some of the players choosen for the squad:

    Alfonso Blanco - keeper - 20 years

    Sergio Arias - keeper - 19

    Omar Esparza - defender - 19

    Julio Dominguez - defender - 19

    Edgar Mejia - defender - 19

    Hector Moreno - defender - 19

    Adrian Aldrete - defender - 19

    Emmanuel Cerda - midfielder - 20

    Daniel Guerrero - midfielder - 19

    Patricio Araujo - midfielder? - 19

    Jorge Hernandez - midfielder - 19

    Edgar Castillo - midfielder - 20

    Cesar Villaluz - forward - 19

My interest is to find out more about these players, since I´m very impressed by the way you develop talents. And if some of these players have the chance to some day be regulars for your National Team.

Looks like you have some golden generation in your hands here, but I can´t really say, because I know too little about them. If these players blossom the mexicans can do well in the next WC i think. I have also followed the results of your U17 WC and the U20 WC and think this is interesting.

Hope that´s good enough answar for you?

    I'll give you something..

All those players are good, but no where near as good as Dos Santos, Vela, Guardado, or Ochoa. All of the above don't have the buzz that the four I mention have.

Wow, you told me something I already know. But It ain´t easy to compare defenders with midfielders and strikers, and there are a lot of young defenders in the squad. I didn´t expect them to be something like Vela or Dos Santos, but they could be in for a great future annyway.

And I guess many of the players will will grow a bit with this NT experinece. They actually know that they no have a chance to challenge the older guys, so I think it´s a good move by the NT coach.

BTW your knowledge doesn´t impress me very much..

OK, if your interest is genuine here you go:

    Alfonso Blanco - keeper - 20 years

Starter of the Mexican U-20 in Canada 07, plays for Indios de Ciudad Juarez in Primera A (Mexican second tier) a team that in turn is a filial of Pachuca. Blanco is a very interesting prospect, his problem is that besides Calero and himself there's at least another couple of interesting goalies in los Tuzos reserves.

    Sergio Arias - keeper - 19

He was the starter for the Mexican U-17 World Champions in Peru 05, he also won the bronze medal this summer in the Panam games, but was left out of the U-20 for unknown reasons. He's currently on loan with Dorados of Primera A, but his rights belong to Chivas de Guadalajara.

    Omar Esparza - defender - 19

Another U-17 world champ, he also started for the Mexican U-20, and is a regular face with the first division Chivas, can play LB or RB, although he seems to be better at the later. He's quite experienced for his age, has played Libertadores, CCC, Mexican playoffs, Superliga, etc.

    Julio Dominguez - defender - 19

The next great defender to come from the Mexican school of CB's, his nickname is "Catita" due to the influence that his former teammate, the argentine defender "Cata" Dominguez, had on him. He started for the Mexican U-20 in Canada 07 and is a regular starter for first division Cruz Azul.

    Edgar Mejia - defender - 19

Mejía can play either as a CB or defensive mid, he has emerged recently as a regular for Chivas de Guadalajara first division. He was supposed to be the captain of the Mexican U-17 in Peru 05, but missed the tourney due to an injury.

    Hector Moreno - defender - 19

Another interesting CB pospect, Moreno plays as a starter for Pumas on Mexican first division and has represented Mexico both at U-17 (in which he won the WC) and U-20 level, in both cases as a starter. With Pumas has received his share of international exposure, playing in both Libertadores and Sudamericana.

    Adrian Aldrete - defender - 19

Like other 19 year olds on this group Aldrete won the U-17 WC in Peru 05, he's the regular starter as a LB for first division Monarcas Morelia, after the U-17 WC he was sent a training trip to Argentina where the first division Club Estudiantes de la Plata, showed interest, but Monarcas never intended to let the player go, not even on a loan, after that Aldrete became a regular for Monarcas first side.

    Emmanuel Cerda - midfielder - 20

Cerda is a wing/striker, that plays for first division Tigres, he represented Mexico in the Panam games, winning the bronze medal. With Tigres he has played on several games both as a starter or sub, his main attribute is the speed but he's also pretty good on the ball control.

    Daniel Guerrero - midfielder - 19

Pretty much a recent discovery, before the U-20 WC he was and unknown, but after the tournament he became a regular with first division Atlante, he plays pretty much on every position of the right flank, but mostly right wing.

    Patricio Araujo - midfielder - 19

Araujo was the captain of both the Mexican U-17 in Peru 05 and the U-20 in Canada 07, he's a great defensive player and a leader on the field, can play both as a CB or defensive mid. He plays for Chivas de Guadalajara first division team, has experience in many tournaments including Lbertadores, CCC, Mexican playoffs (winning the Apertura 06), etc. European clubs like Arsenal, Ajax and German sides have shown interest in Araujo, but to this date he has refused to leave Mexico since he's pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineerings.

    Jorge Hernandez - midfielder - 19

Hernandez is a left midfielder that won the U-17 WC in Peru 05, and played regularly for the Mexican U-20 in Canada 07. After the U-17 WC he decided to move to Spain and tried to land a deal with a professional team, and even though he was set to sign a contract with FC Barcelona, at the end his lack of an EU passport limited his options to a low level spanish side. He got tired of the poor conditions of his contract in Spain and returned to Mexico to play for Atlas youth (where he had originally played before he went to Spain). Back in Mexico he struggled for a while and was sent to Atlas youth, but after the U-20 WC he joined the first division side and now plays for thm in the top circuit.

    Edgar Castillo - midfielder - 20

Castillo could be considered the first Mexican born and raised in the USA, that plays for the Mexican senior National Team, even though before him there was a certain Gerardo Mascareño, the fact is that Mascareño never actually lived in the US and didn't consider himself an American.

Castillo was a hot prospect in New Mexico but due to the lack of financial resources he decided to pursue a career as a pro player in Mexico, since his parents are Mexicans he had no problem to obtain a Mexican passport, a member of his family arranged his trial with Santos de Torreon Youth, in which he was accepted, after a couple years of hard work with Santos he finally made his first division debut, and after a year or so in the bench he finally broke as a regular starter on the Clausura 07. He now plays regularly for Santos and looks like a very interesting prospect as a left wing.

    Cesar Villaluz - forward - 19

U-17 Mexican World Champ, also played for the Mexican U-20 in Canada 07. He plays club football for Cruz Azul on Mexican first division and is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects as an offensive mid.

Great analysis. Agree with everything you wrote.
All these players seem extremely promising, thus why this generation is being referred to as Mexico's "Golden generation". I just hope these players keep getting valuable minutes and experience in important competitions.
Catita has impressed me so much, I'm crossing my fingers to see a Marquez-Dominguez backline on Wednesday.

    Thanks El Kapitan.

Of course my interest in genuine. It´s not often you see so many young players get to show them self on the NT. I have never seen it before, and many from the U17 WC are following up their good play there over to senior level. That´s very impressive.

My interest is on the NT level, as I´m from Europe and don´t have the chance to follow your league. I have always followed Mexico in the WC, and think they have a colorful team. I loved the keeper Campos in 94.

So what do you think about the next WC El Kapitan? Can many of thes players make the squad, are there some other on their way up that can qualify to the squad?

    OK, that's cool.

I truly believe that in the next WC Mexico can lay the foundations of better things to come, for most players on that team is gonna be a learning experience towards 2014, still most of the kids on the current squad are gonna have a hard time to make the roster for 2010, because there's already another group of more mature players who have a better shot right now of making the roster, but some of the young guns are talented enough to make it into the final 23 for South Africa, so its pretty much up to them to see if they make it or not, something that could help their case are the Olympics, a good run in the Olympics could really help them out to make it into the senior side.

Among the young player, outside of a major problem, Vela, Gio, Guardado, Ochoa and Nery (who missed the cut date to be on the Pre-olympic squad only for 6 months) are already locks for South Africa. Besides them I think that Dominguez has a good shot of making the roster, the same goes for Araujo, the rest IMO are pretty much in the air, but the striker Landin has a good shot of making the squad as well, as long as we don't manage to produce regularly his kind of player (Big Target Forward).

Some players that are up and coming? Mmm well, first one that comes to mind is Jonathan Dos Santos (17 years old), the little brother of Gio that is following his footsteps in Barcelona, then there's this kid Bryan Leyva, he's 15 or 16 and currently playing for Real Madrid youth. Then there's a number of prospects on Mexican teams that seem to be on the eve of making a big splash in first division, but for some reason they are falling a bit short. That's the case of 20 year old Omar Arellano of Pachuca (on loan with Chivas), there's 19 year old Moises Velasco of Toluca, 19 year old Enrique Esqueda of America, 20 year old Christian Bermudez of Atlante. This last guy is actually pretty impressive but I've got the feeling that he's gonna be discriminated by coaches because of his height (1.63 m/ 5'4'').

Of course that's all IMHO, hopefully a lot of this "golden generation" players can make it in the roster for South Africa, we might not win that one, but by 2014 and 18 we would have a very strong squad with more realistic chances of winning the big one.
