Finally heard back from the "chief-muckety-muck" from Adidas Soccer. I inquired about the lack of Galaxy merchandise available. I talked about what a travesty it was that there was no Cobi jersey available. Of course, they want me to pay extra to customize a Cobi jersey. So thoughtful of them. Thought I would share this response:

Firstly, thank you for your email and we very much appreciate your passion for the game and the Galaxy. In no way would we want to insult Cobi Jones and/or diminish his accomplishments. He has been a ambassador for the game and for his team throughout his tenure in Major League Soccer.

We at adidas do believe in the team dynamic, we over me. Please try to understand the incredible opportunity that David Beckham presented everyone involved with soccer in this country. At no time did we purposely attempt to diminish other players on the team or in the league. The focus was imply on one player at this time in order to capture the unique situation at hand. As a fan, we do hope that you understand.

I want to re-iterate what was already mentioned by others, there is the possibility to customize jerseys to have a Hartman, Donovan, or Jones jersey.

adidas understands your frustration in regards to the availability of LA Galaxy products and we certainly want to insure that all LA Galaxy fans have the ability to purchase products at retail.

In regards to additional player jerseys, to insure that all fans had this opportunity, adidas brought in over 20,000 blank LA Galaxy jerseys that we put in stock for our retailers to utilize for this front. Major League Soccer has then signed a contract with a vendor to produce player's name and numbers which they can then apply to the jersey to provide you with the custom player of your choice.

Currently, we have over 10,000 of these jerseys waiting in stock for our retailers to purchase for this reason.

In regards to additional products outside of the home and away jerseys, adidas offers a full range of products fleece, polos, and t-shirts for the LA Galaxy. We hope that your local retailer purchased these products so that they are available to you.

My apologies for the late reply. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

    Thank you,
    Antonio Zea

At least you got a response, even if it seemed like something generated by a corporate robot. Hartman? Well, that shows how much Adidas knows about the Galaxy . . .

The telling number to me is only 20,000 plain shirts - compared to how many hundred thousand Beckham jerseys? There are probably 20,000 people alone in California let alone the entire US and rest of the world who would buy a plain Galaxy jersey or one that they could customize. No wonder I had so much trouble getting a plain away jersey - from those numbers I'd guess that only 5,000 were made.

I was just going to say something about Hartman being on his list... dude, get your roster straight. "The Cannon" has been on our squad for some time now.

Personally, I feel that the merchandise is decent, but it is lacking in variety. I've seen some sleeveless training shirts the lads are wearing and those aren't on sale yet. I've also seen some sweet polos the "suits" wear around the HDC and those would sell like hotcakes IMO. They are better than the Beckham polo, anyways. I don't want yellow Beckham lettering all over a polo I'd totally wear to work. :D

Anyhoo, I say we give them some time to get acclimated to the increased demand for quality merchandise. After all, it's only been a few months since the logo was redesigned and everything... at least, I think?

I don't think any of the MLS polos won by the "suits" have ever been available to the public - the only time I've ever seen any for sale was at a Galaxy equipment sale a few years back, and they were from a few seasons previous.

However, I have been able to buy Adidas Newcastle polos just like those worn by the training staff, and you can buy the full line of training wear from the nufc.co.uk website. Adidas should make polos available to MLS fans - I think they've seriously underestimated demand for MLS goods.

Well, be sure to get your personalized, rebranded, newly-designed HARTMAN jersey from your local retailer!

Really, that images needs fair warning. It is at least NC-17 material.

    True.

The only fair use of that image is in retaliation for when a DCU fan posts the water fountain money shot.

    Hartman. Wow.

Anyways, where the heck are all the Galaxy hats and beanies and such? There have been absolutely none anywhere in sight.

Speaking of weird merchandising, I cannot find a female away jersey. I would've figured that with all the female Beckmania they would want to push out as much as possible.

My wife has the home but not the away and I cannot find any anywhere.

Does the US Nats have a 'No player left behind' policy? It will always be one of those unanswered questions like "How did Emile Heskey play well for England" or "How thin can Victoria Beckham be before she just keels over?"

At the risk of me laughing at the US national side, please tell me he never actually wore that shirt?

No, he's been capped. And, at the time, he deserved the shot.

And this is why the story is sad, not funny. To watch a guy waste his talent and skills, when so many others struggle to survive with half the native ability... Its frustrating to a fan, and ultimately self-destructive to the player. There really is no joy to be taken from watching a young guy commit professional suicide.

And that's twice for us - see the "Memo" file.

To be fair I remember that happening to a lot of people having been around academies in England. There were players who were tipped to play internationally but let it go to their heads, and went totally off the rails, it happens, and it is the player who has himself to blame, no one else. If they choose to let their career take a back seat to pursue women and drink it is their own fault.

As for the kit shortage, I am surprised but I have seen the odd one around UK sports shops, I'd have thought they would be working flat out to produce the shirts.

Yeah, I dunno what the f*** Adidas is thinking. All they care about is Beckham. Anything that they can throw "Beckham" on will be released. How 'bout showing the other guys some love? And as I have said numerous times, I WANT A CANNON KEEPER JERSEY DAMMIT. I don't want an outfield jersey with "CANNON 1." I want the laser blue keeper jersey. Get it done Adidas.
