This is it. The last chance to make some statement, to stay relevant beyond mid-September. The alternative: bunch of virtual "friendlies", with the next meaningful game coming in about a year. :(

Let's hope that our boys do our best on Wed. We should admit, so far, we did not play a single good game this tourney. It's a good time for this now.

Scotland match was quite impressive I'd say. Italy is SLIGHTLY weakened. Over at the Italian threads they are crying for 5-6 missing players. problem is, their bench consists of, like, 30 players. We only have about dozen useful players, so a 100% is required from all of them.

I'd like to see Hladky play more than 3 minutes.

Yeah, the game vs. Scotts wasn't bad, a bit sloppy though.

I doubt Hladky will get a call unless Blokhin gets desparate during the game. But, hey, should we fail to gain 3 fat points here, Hladky will get plenty of playing time from now on. :(

Anybody care to guess the line-ups?

    I see:

Gusev, Tymoschuk, Nazarenko (#10) and Rotan in the midfield and Sheva + Vorona up top.

unless we win, we are all, but mathematically out of Euros. If we play the way we played in Tbilisi, we will lose.

Play Hladky, Sheva and Vorona from the start. What have we got to lose?

I agree they need to attack. But, something tells me, we'll see a good ole 4-5-1 formation...

We need to hope for the same result we got against Denmark in the WC campaign. Put 10 men in front of our goal and hope one of our boys breaks free o the counter and nicks one in. With the teams current state, we simply can't run with the Italians for the full 90.

I'm sure that Sheva will get a start, I don't see how Blokha will leave him on the the bench.
The team on the field wasn't bad accept that they didn't play as a team. I think Sheva was the biggest waste of space there, Hladkiy should have played instead.

i don't think we were watching the same game then. Sheva wasn't his best, but he was far from the "biggest waste of space." If he can't get a decent service, which he doesn't, he ends up going back to his own half, so what do you expect him to do, run through entire defenses?

You must have been watching the choppy video feed :)
The guy did more complaining than the Georgians did, that says someting.
And yes, I do expect him to run through defense, because if he can't run though Georgian defense, he has reason to be on the field against Italians.

ok, but complaining doesn't mean playing badly. His teammates often missed him being wide open.

The times when one player could have singlehandedly destroyed another team's defense are over and are not coming back. Shevchenko is the best Ukrainian offensive player, but Georgian defenders, including Kaladze are no slouches.

I personally think that is arguable now. If he was still at Milan; without a doubt.

Ukraine needs to win this, and i think they will this is the best time. Italy has some key players missing (Gattuso, Toni). We have Voronin missing.
I see Hladkiy and Sheva up front. I also see a win for us 2-1 maybe, ill take any kind of a win. I just feel good about this.

    Prob lineup
    Shovkovskiy
    Ezerskiy, Rusol, Kycher, Nesmachnuy
    Mykhailyk, Tymoschuk, Gusev, Rotan
    Sheva, Hladkiy

I wish I could share your enthusiasm. Then again, Italy might be overconfident if they think about their past track record.

The team is looking great in the first 10. I'm surprised. Hope we can keep it up.

Sheva is all over the ball, and we're winning the battle in midfield.
