I concurr. I hate it when fans don't really take any time to appreciate a team for its uniqueness or history and pick teams that are "favorites". I can safely say myself that I became a Man U fan because I thought David Beckham played for them some years ago. When I realized that he was not playing, a player by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo caught my eye with his dazzling moves and quick footwork. He intrigued me to begin watching soccer more regularly. I really cannot stand him now, since I am now an informed soccer fan. However, we all have some experience that pulls us in somehow.
Answer them with the truth. You're a true USA fan not a front running, ignorant ********. What's inappropriate about beating their pathetic, traitorous asses publicly?
I will be wearing the Red, White, and Blue.....the rest of my friends will be wearing green and yellow.
Chicago has put out for soccer this year. See below: The following events are going on in Chicago or concerning Chicago sports. BMW (formerly Western) Open final round with Tiger Final Indy Car race at Chicagoland Speedway with Danica and company First Bears game - against Chargers Cubs tied for first - game on TV White Sox game in Chicago US Open Tennis finals My son's AYSO game which he is missing to go to Brasil - US Only 4 weeks notice of game with crappy PR Earlier this summer sucking soccer budget dollars Gold Cup final vs. Mexico sold out Fire vs. Celtic, Fire vs. Polish team Gold Cup semifinal FC Savilla, Pachuca, Regina and Warsaw in Chicago Tourney so think about what you said. Should be 45,000
There's no way im missing Bears @ Chargers week 1. I love the Nats and Tivo'd the game, but I've been waiting since January for this game.
Why not TIVO the Bears game? And as for attendance. The Trib said on Thursday they had sold 40,000 tickets. I expect over 40,000 which is very good considering everything else going on in Chicago.
I agree with your post, thought USSF needs to play some games elsewhere to broaden their "brand". And I'd also say Columbus is the "go to" site for a must win game that we get to pick the site for. But the point of my post was to tell you that the US Open is in New York, not Chicago.
Some of us Tennis Players are tempted to watch Federer anyways. My point with the US Open is that it will pull a few fans out of their seats. The Bears Game is in SD too, but it will still hurt the Nats attendence. BTW, the USSF skipped Chicago for about 6 or 7 years until recently. And that town in Ohio gets more for 1 football game than 10 futbol games.
I second that previous poster about recording the Bear's game. You can then fast forward through all the dead time and watch the game in about 20 minutes, leaving you 3 more hours of your weekend in which to do other things.
Why cant our kid suport red white and blue wearing brazil and inter shirts in other countries and not wearing mls or dont tread makes me ashamed.
The crowd was a mixed bunch which I would divide up as follows: 1. Brazil fans a. Real Brazilians (all the Brazil fans around me [section 143] were Portugese speakers). b. Faux Brazilians (American, non Portugese-speaking fans, with no Brazilian heritage - bandwagoners). 2. US fans 3. Casual soccer fans - Came to see Ronaldinho, Kaka, et. al. If I had to give a percentage it would be: 1 a. 15% 1 b. 20% 2. 40% 3. 25% The crowd was good, but a little too enthusiastic every time Ronaldinho, Robinho, or Kaka touched the ball. The best crowd I've seen was still the England ex-pats that came out for the US-England friendly here in '05. On the other hand, the women were absolutely smoking hot today (as one would expect).
That was my take on it all, though you could say about half of b) Faux Brasilians wearing Brazil shirts - were Mexicans, or Cent. Americans.
I agree with the breakdowns. More US fans than Brazilians but more people rooting for Brazil than the US. Most of the Hispanics I saw were rooting for the US. The problem was the pale pasty white folks wearing yellow jerseys.
You were in the wrong section. Were they speaking Portugesse? The NW corner was very nice. The women you were looking at were faux Brasilians.
No, and I disagree with that assessment anyway. On the whole, the girls at the Gold Cup fixtures were much more attractive than yesterday (i.e. Mexico 1 Brazil 0).
This thread seems to have run its course, so ... http://www.the-dispatch.com/article/20070910/APS/709100904&cachetime=5 .... The Brazil-Mexico match Wednesday night has already sold close to 60,000 tickets, and may set an attendance record for soccer at Gillette Stadium. .... On Sunday, Mexico manager Hugo Sanchez expressed concern about the playing field at Gillette Stadium, where grass has been put over the artificial turf. "I was just informed that the field has two layers of grass, one natural and another synthetic," he said. "I'm not very happy about it, but we will play this match, and facing Brazil is something that does not happens every day." .... ********** Ok, here's my question. Brazil-Mexico gets the royal treatment, with natural grass placed - at some expense - over the fieldturf, but for USA-Brazil we don't even rate a properly prepared/colored/lined field? {You know what I mean.}
