I cannot believe that no call. I am so ********ing sick of this bullshit! Every time we walk on the field we have to play the other team and the ********ing umpire! We should be winning this game right now. We should have that second goal and be winning if not for their lucky ********ing own goal. If I was at this game I would have run on the field and kicked that ump in the ********ing crotch! ********!

I'm so angry man. I don't know what I would have done. At bear minimum that game was a guaranteed 3-3 tie. But it should have been won 3-2 US.

Well I couldn't believe the no call on Robinho, I can't shake the feeling that the one on Wolff was a make-up call.

    Re: F*ck!

Are you serious? Clearly a dive. A make up call, even if it were to be made, would be for a borderline play. This was a last man tackle from behind with an obvious scoring chance. A penalty in any refs sleep. And then our make up call, oh wait no another horrible call leading to a Brazil goal, a goal coming off of a counterattack started by a handball. Boo.

You know I love you man, and I think the ref sucked equally badly for both teams, but Robinho flopped like Bill Laimbeer.

And where was the penalty leading up to the Ronaldinho free-kick goal? I didn't see it.

In the words of the Mexican play-by-play guy on Univision, "TALK TO ME JEESOOS!!" :(

    Re: F*ck!

I expect to hear plenty of that but Robinho jumped and then got hit, lightly, by Onyewu. Whether he was faking injury or not later is unrelated to the foul itself.

As for the one on the US, none of the replays are good so I couldn't tell if it was intentional or unintentional, but I think it was a clear foul either way.

The Ref gave Brazil 2 goals, and probably robbed the US of 1 goal, assuming the PK off of Wolfe being steamrolled in the box went in.

    So:
    Brazil: 1
    US OG: 1
    US: 2
Ref: 2 for Brazil, -1 for US

This was a great game, but those calls were infuriating and ruined the second half.

Yeah, the ref was just terrible for both sides.
The US did give Brazil a really good fight even with the bad calls.
Kudos to Tim Howard for staying in there.

Regarding Robinho: after watching all the replays I could just not tell either way. If ref was out to get us, it would have been a penalty.

    Regarding Wolff: horrible call

Regarding Ronaldinho: Espn never showed a replay, so I have no idea if there was a foul or not. Another horrible production by espn.

On the balance, the calls did go slightly against us. But hey, this is the ref that handed us that semifinal game in the Gold Cup against Canada disallowing that last minute goal by Canada (at linesman's urging) and by not issuing a red card early in the game on a vicious tackle by I cannot remember who (Clark?). So we are still ahead of the curve with this ref if you count the Gold Cup more important than the this friendly. Canadians must be laughing their asses off at the irony.

I think that the Ronaldinho one was not for a foul on Ronaldinho himself, but slightly earlier a foul (if it was one) on Daniel Alves who had passed to Ronaldinho.

    Re:

You may be right. It's possible my prejudice against Robinho affects my reading of the replay. The guy is capable of brilliance but underproduces because he wimps out and backs away from the tough play too often for my tastes. He could easily have gone around Onyewu and I just don't think the contact was there for a foul. On the other hand, if the same thing happened in the other direction, I doubt I would be quite so sure there was no foul.

As for the ref, he was piss-poor but there is no way anyone can say he was one-sided.

It was pointed out that this was the same ref that hosed Canada in the Gold Cup when they tied the USA and were called for an offsides. I guess today was karma. Was this one of the fulltime crews that were hired by the USSF?

i saw the game on univision and they missed the foul as well. but weren't the espn announcers at the game? did they say something about it. the robinho foul was not a penalty and rightly so got a yellow. the play shouldn't have counted since the ball went out when he was on the sideline. the wolff call was bull****. it was clearly a foul. i think the foul that led to the ronnie goal was on bocanegra i believe for blocking a brazilian similar to the arsenal penalty. but i'm not sure.

I had it TiVo'd and replayed it myself (thanks ESPN). Alves was playing a One-Two with Ronaldinho, and after he passed, he made the run and it was definitely not a foul on Bocanegra, he sort of stuck out his arm and touched Alves, and of course Alves went down and started rolling around to get the foul call. That is why Bocanegra got so visibly upset and started pointing at the jumbotron and telling the ref to look at it. O well, still a good game by U.S.

All I have to say is the Robinho call in the box was a dive and he deserved the yellow he got. He jumped before contact was made because he knew he had no angle and had to flop...he jumped INTO contact with gooch and so I give him no call, a deserved yellow, and 0 respect on that attempt.

Also Boca handballed it into the goal.

    Crap noncall on Wolff.

Crap call for the ronaldinho free kick.

Right before the corner that Lucio scored on, one of our defenders (i forget who) completely shanked a clearance giving them that corner.

Gooch OG could have been prevented.

Howard is the best keeper in the entire world.

The ref sucked, yup, but ultimately we made dumb mistakes defensively. You take back the ref-gifted goals and factor in the calls that the ref should have made, and it turns out to be 3-2 to brazil. Legit goals were Gooch OG (our own mistake), Dempsey's goal, Lucio's goal (our own mistake shanking a clearance and giving up that corner kick), and the PK goal (stupid mistake by Bradley). BS goals were Boca's Handball shot, and Ronaldinho's free kick cause it wasn't a foul in the first place. We should have had a PK for Wolff... so 3-2 would be the just score by refs...point is we still lose - which means our mistakes outweighed our positives. We need work. Gooch needs work.
