What is your opinion of diving in Football/Soccer?

I find it most unfortunate that it seem's to be a tactic used all over the world & has been that way for a long time. I see in the EPL now they are at least attempting to crack down on it in games' & to discourage it as for me it cheapen's the sport. Where they really need to crack down on it is at the international level when countries' play one another. Most important ... The world cup! It seem's to go on at the world cup more than anywhere else. I hope they decide to put a stop to it once & for all.

Lolz! Good point! Come to think of it the world cup would become a bore as at least a third of the national teams' that make it would be banned for diving if not more. In my opinion, & again it's just my opinion players' that are carded for diving should get a 3 game ban. Kind of like what they red card players' now for violent fouls that result in a red card with a ban.

It's an unavoidable fact that players diving is rife in almost every league in the world and even more so in internationals, but if some governing bodies dont do something extremely radical then its going to continue to happen.

I think one of the problems is that in many footballing cultures diving is approved of if not encouraged! im convinced that many managers encorparate playacting into tactics so if even coaches and managers are encouraging diving then theres even less chance of anything being done about it.

    We absolutely hate it:mad:

they should book every player who does it .... the problem being that a lot of the big names do it all the time and they daren't send them off. They wouldn't do it for long though.

Same with people surrounding the ref and trying to get a decision "back off or you're booked!" Easy!

Good post! I agree 100%. Case in point the game between Holland/Albania to qualify for Euro 2008. That's all that went on. Almost as bad as the Holland/Portugal game in the 2006 world cup. Thing's just got out of control in both these games'.

whatever happened to the move the free kick forward 10yds rule on that infringement...?

given time, i thought that might have helped negate that bullying element from the game.

Haven't got a clue!! It was a good rule. At least here I think they stopped it when they realised which teams do it all the time and who'd suffer for it. You know what it's like, they'd rather book someone for pulling a shirt than elbowing ... easy option all the time!

    I'm not bitter though;)

Some mild, unanimated diving... I really don't mind that much.

But snorkeling or scuba... well, now that's pushing it a little too deep.

Hell, I've heard American commentators praise players for falling down at the merest touch in order to "draw attention" to the foul. Makes me wanna puke.

That is truly horrific, but it re-iterates my point.
