I just picked Liverpool as my favorite premiership team, but when they play Everton, what do I do because there there is Tim Howard, the american keeper, playing for Everton? Do I boo him or do I do a casual ra-ra for Tim?

If you get the chance you smack him right in the face. This isn't about national pride, it's much more important than that.

LOL- you're a hard man, Chance!

Howard's one of my favorite players too- I have Tourette Syndrome (as does he) and he's been one of the biggest celebrity advocates for the Tourette Syndrome Association here in the States.

It's not about Howard. It's about the shirt he wears! ;)

(But if he has the shirt on, he's fair game in my book)

I'd obviously like to support the Americans playing abroad, but let's take a quick look at the teams he has played for in England:

    Manchester United
    Everton

    He's dead to me.

Tell you what - take Tim and the Red, White and Blue. You won't be missed. Just learn the words to Z-Cars and you'll find little need to bother Liverpool fans any more. Red, white and blue, don't forget.

It is possible to dislike other teams but like individual players on those teams. For example I like Henry even though he has scored against Liverpool several times. Similarly I admire Arteta and Berbatov for their perfomances. Whenever they play against the Reds of course I would love them to have shockers. When England play I support all the players no matter which clubs they play for. So I will be supporting Joe Cole against Benayoun when England play Israel for example.

It's the same with me. I'm English, but I don't care for the National team much. But when Crouch or Gerrard are playing I always want them to do well.

How exactly does one go about 'picking' their favorite team? I know it sounds overly sentimental, but Liverpool chose me.

Look, if hes playing for the Kirby Upright's on Derby Day, you can cheer for him if you want.....after 5 get by him. Untill then you pray for Banana Skins to fall from heaven and land on his line.

Amen, Only when he wears the US kit do I root for him, and whenever he's NOT playing Liverpool. When he lines up on the opposite side for the bitters, he's just another bitter.

    Amen?

I thought "He's dead to me" meant no rooting even wearing the American kit.

    Exactly.......

Robbie Fowler chose me, in 1993-94. I have long held the belief that my family has the only dog named "Fowler" for at least a few thousand square miles!!! :D

And to answer the question.... you hope that Liverpool smash 5 or 6 past Tim Howard. Simple, really.

I'm pretty sure I might be the only person with a dog named "Riise" in the world. :)

Edit: You should hear them try to pronounce that shit at the vet and groomers. ;)
