Brilliant! : ) Love the photos. You illustrated your point well (no pun intended) Great job! I hear exactly what you are saying. I feel you brother. A SSS would be nice but I have no problem with Qwest field. It will work out just fine.

I think it is more embarrasing for the league when I see teams like Columbus and Dallas with the vast amount of empty seats. Those are nice stadiums and yet they get very inconsistent fan support. Someone or someone's need to be held accountable. There is no reason these teams should not be at 80-90 capacity in their SSS's

Great post Sounder Fan! : )

so...you want to have more seats that are able to be empty. it's not like Seattle will likely draw that much more than any other team. i don't really have a problem with Qwest as it is a terrific stadium, but i'd think you'd want your team to actually not lose a ton of money due to rent. i hope both you and Portland get into the league, so MLS has another great rivalry. i'd just rather you both have appropriately sized stadia that help your teams at least break even.

Re: The TRUTH about Qwest (photos)

We used to have a team that played in the 65,000 seat Kingdome. Only 25,000 to 30,000 of those seats were usually opened...... the lower two sections. Guess what? They were usually full on a regular basis. Those seats up above were not anyone's concern since they were not in our field of vision. We were too busy watching the Sounders kick the hell out of their opponents more often than not. Seattle WILL draw well and the upper decks at Qwest will not impact the experience any more than the 300 level of the Kingdome did. Rent will not be a problem and the millions saved on stadium construction costs will buy quality players from the start. Book it!

so the Sounders will be the first MLS team to break even without having any control over their stadium?

This has been discussed several hundred times. First and Goal and the PSA have stated that they will not be charging the prospective team a huge rent. Right now the current Sounders pay $6000 for the stadium per game. That basically pays the cost of turning on the lights.......something they would have to pay for in any case. They will also be allowed to make money from concessions, parking etc. So according to all reports....... this will not be like other situations.

ah i see. forgive me for my ignorance then. i'd still rather see Seattle in their own stadium, but assuming what you have told me comes to fruition, this sounds like a perfectly fine situation.

To be considered a "REAL" professional sport, you have to have your own facility, that isn't shared by ANY other sport? Well, I guess the NBA, and NHL aren't "REAL" pro leagues, huh? How many of the teams in those two leagues share their building with a team (or teams) in another sport? Go tell that to Rob Blake (Staples Center is home to 2 NBA teams AND the NHL's LA Kings), and he'd likely kick your ass (hockey IS a violent sport).
But, then again, what the frak would an okie know ANYTHING about pro sports teams, you don't HAVE any!

because obviously the nba has a hard time proving their professionalism. Dont insult me because i live in oklahoma, thats really classy. And plus those teams who share dont have to worry about football lines, the wrong playing surface, a hug empty stadium and so on. Just look at the ny red bulls or kc wizards, its almost an insult to the mls watching them play in those stadiums.

Re: The TRUTH about Qwest (photos)

SeattleMLS will draw from 15 - 20K per game (my guesstimate). Comparing the USL Sounders to what SeattleMLS will draw is like comparing apples to oranges (see Toronto). The current version of the Sounders spend nada on marketing, advertising, etc. I really don't see that happening with an MLS side. Seattle has historically drawn well at QWest with friendlies (USMNT, DCU vs. Real Madrid to name two).

It sounds like SeattleMLS will be in a totally different situation than other MLS teams (with the exception of NE) in regards to playing in an NFL size stadium. The only way to actually see if it will work is to have a team here in Seattle and see what happens.

Until then, it's just speculation (with a little insider info teased our way....).

Re: The TRUTH about Qwest (photos)

We've been hearing news of the possible agreement with Qwest Field, and it addresses football lines and the playing surface ... namely that football lines would not be present for MLS games and that the stadium could end up with grass. A lot of football fans would like grass, too. Just because Giants Stadium is run by dickheads doesn't mean Qwest Field is run by dickheads.

The huge empty stadium thing is a strawman and is based on your assumptions, not on your personal experience. Qwest Field was purposely built in such a way as to look great with only the lower bowl filled.

What do those stadiums have to do with Qwest Field?

I know this may be crude but this is what I am thinking that the Soccer configuration would work for MLS. The sight lines would be good. The atmosphere would be intimate and look good on camera. Just as long as there are know gridlines. : )

That would be sweet. I could buy the same seats charter seats I have in 138 for the 'Hawks.

The view would be better on the southend. :) You can see the city and the needle as a nice backdrop. ;)
