A lot of people were begging for this guy to be selected a few years ago, then he had injury problems and the whole works, and then he got selected for Congo but never played so is still eligible for Portugal, and right now, is in fine form for Maritimo, leading the top scorer's charts although it being early in the season.

We're desperate for a prolific player here... Call or no call?

No call, he's really not impressive.

If he keeps up his scoring form, then he will earn himself a call.

Ive been saying it since his u21 days some years ago, the exact striker we need, alot better technically then almeida, more mobile, and just as strong and as good with his head.

Injuries ruined him in 2005 where he had 11 goals in half the season in spain for vallavolid on loan from sevilla when he was a youth.

    Now hes finally recovering.

Finally i agree with you Aveirenses:D

26 years old...I rather see the oppertunity given to Varela or more time to Almeida.

    whats wrong with 26?

did u see makukula when he was a youth? or before his injury 2 seasons ago which made him fail the pass couple seasons?

superb player, i remember his days in 2002/2003 on the u21s with quaresma, valdir, ronaldo, postiga, tiago etc. good old days

i dont care how old our striker is, as long as hes right for the job, and if makukula regains his fitness from 2005 he is the proper style of striker we need.

only problem is he plays for "maritimo" so i doubt scolari will even look at him.

but he was alot ebtter then almeida before his injury no doubts, lets hope he keeps regaining his fitness, which is why sevilla loaned him out.

Varela is another good option, my fav prospect right now, but scolari again will not look at him unless he sets la liga ablaze.

If shit like Joao Tomas is/was getting begged for a NT callup and got one, even for a friendly, then a Maritimo player shouldn't be far behind.
(Re: I am not stating Makukulala is shit)

The problem is scolari only called joao tomas that one time vs kuwait as tomas was already in the region at the time playing in Qatar.

I doubt sxolari will even look at some of the players we are talking about..manuel fernandes keeps geting ignored, and he prefers meireles to veloso!!!!:(

Choose: Gun, knife, grenade or banana?

Scolari: Err... I'll choose the banana.

I remember Makukula from his sub-21 days. He's so tall, he looks a little awkward out there, but he usually managed to net one. Porto plays Maritimo in the next round, and I would have liked to see him in action, however, he was red carded and will be castigado for the game. If he keeps scoring, he should get a call.

i hope he continues to score goals and get selected. Someone has to get Nuno Gomes away from the National team.

Nuno is one of my favorite players, but I have to admit, he's just been taking up space lately. I think even Postiga is more dangerous at this time, yet he has no spot at Porto. Ai, meu deus!!

BTW, didn't Makukula say some time ago (like last year) he didn't want to play for the Portugal NT? Or am I mistaken?

He was waiting for Portugal to call him up, but then Congo called him up and he was going to play for them, but then I believe he got hurt. The next time he was available, FIFA had instituted a rule saying a player can only switch before his 21st birthday if he had not had a cap yet, and he was obviously past that age.

At the time of his decision to play for Congo, I'm sure he wasn't too pleased with Portugal but I don't recall anything following the FIFA decision saying he wouldn't play for Portugal.

Those were effectively portuguese lands. Almost the same as being born in Angola.

He was always impressive when called up for the Portuguese Youth Teams.
Not sure what he has left after his injuries. If he was in good form, he wouldn't be playing in Madeira.

It doesn't matter, Makukula is as much of a portuguese citizen as Pepe, Derlei, Deco, etc......
