Sort of buried within the "Team News" on MLSnet's preview of the TFC match today: "People are probably going to get mad at me for saying this but we get too crazy after a win and get way too down after losses around here. It was a bad loss. We have had bad losses this season but you have people walking around not talking to each other after this one," Chris Gbandi said. "This season is a long season and it all depends on how well we bounce back from losses. The last few times, we haven't bounced back from them very well. We can't get that down when we lose because every time we win a game around here, we feel like we won the World Cup. Overall, we just have to take this in stride. D.C. is a good team and we got our butts kicked but I don't think we played that badly." http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20070906&content_id=115606&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp Not talking to each other? That's not good. Don't think they played that badly against DC? Right. I'll have some of whatever Gbandi is gsmoking. Just when we're starting to believe that things are good in the room, though, we get these comments. Gbandi venting, or something more to this?
I read that too, but then I also thought "...Maybe they just aren't talking to you G-Man...." That may be too cynical an angle, maybe not.
I believe that quote was taken right after the DC match and I am sure there were a lot of ticked off players. At each other and at themselves. Doesn't surprise me that at least that night, they were not talking to each other.
Doesn't exactly endear me to Gbandi. Damn right they should be embarrassed after getting beat 4-0 at home. That one should stick with you for a long time. Sounds like the rest of the guys took it to heart which is good. Worries me that someone who was one of the worse under-performers is making those comments.
I'd like to check out Surrow for a few more games but I'm right there with ya. Maybe Drew could manage in the middle but something has been up with him lately. I think Mr. Moor's brain is infected by a woman right now.
yessssssssss...prawns but only after truffle appetizers! I don't know about other sections but in sec. 107 we snort beluga caviar after each Hoops goal.
I'm going to hope that I was right the first time, and that it was just a case of Gbandi venting. Like Jonno, doesn't exactly endear him to me, however. I actually think his comments could have been made after whatever time Morrow told him he was going to be on the bench for the USOC match - hence his comments that basically call others out for overreacting to losses. After all, he does have something of a history of opening his mouth when called out/benched/etc. Either way, keep his arse on the bench v TFC and let's hope he works hard enough to get back in the lineup. No offense meant to Wags, but we've got problems if Gbandi can't win that job back.
"I was watching today to see how the attitude was in camp, what with the DC horror game and now a positive win in Seattle. I must say there is a real positivity in this club. When Hislop dropped by everyone seemed genuinely glad to see him. Denilson seems to be fitting in well as he continues to do and say all the right things. Is the good vibe real? Will is continue even if there the wins aren’t coming as frequently? Honestly I don’t know. But there is a camaraderie that has not been here in some of the more recent years and I feel good about that." http://www.3rddegree.net/2007/09/practice-observations-gotta-fly/
This league is progressing by leaps and bounds and a great many players now in it won't be in it within a season or two.......watch this space for confirmation of that FACT.
