There hasn't been a lick of defense played in the Louisville/Middle Tennessee State game so far (21-14)... they haven't played 5 minutes off the clock and its been about a half an hour.

Unless somebody on either side learns to tackle soon, this game will take WELL over 3.5 hours meaning it will cut into the start of the Chivas/DCU game.

Re: Word of warning for the game tonight (R if you watch College football)

I was going to post a similar thread this afternoon, long before the game even started, because the majority of college football games have been running way over 3 hours this year, with many going over 3 and a half.

But this game is barely moving the clock at all. It's a one or two play drive and then the clock stops for a touchdown and a kickoff. The game started at 7, and the first quarter will run past 8 o'clock.

At this point, I'd say the game will likely reach 11 o'clock. Be warned people, we're going to miss a good portion of the first half of tonight's MLS game. (Hopefully not all of it.)

I went to one this weekend that was 3 hours and 42 minutes. I was like "we could play an MLS double-header in this time!"

First 15 minutes finally finished at 8:06.
Still another 45 minutes to go.

In other news, Louisville might give up a lot of points in the Big East this year.
(Of course, they'll score a lot too.)

There is 11:51 left in the 2nd quarter. The time is now 8:20pm EST. It has taken 1.5 hours to play 18 minutes on the game clock. And since it's a close game it's only going to get worse. We will be lucky to see ANY of the DC United vs Chivas USA match.

Yeah, this game will be lucky to be over by 11pm.

Did anyone take the over in this game?

Can anyone explain to me why NCAA games last so long compared to NFL games? I love NCAA football, but I can't understand for the life of me why they always take so long while NFL and CFL games are almost always finished in 3 hours.

Without getting bogged in the details, the NFL and NCAA have different clock rules. In the NFL there are more situations where the clock runs while the ball is not in play.

I don't watch college football but I think they stop the clock after every first down.

I was gonna post this thread. :)

Yes, I'm all psyched up and ready to complain like the rest of you. Stupid college football. I think it's on espn360, though.

A lot of NFL games exceed three hours too, and it seems to be getting worse (from personal observation).

Thank TV timeouts. 2nd half will go faster.

I was under the impression you had to pay for ESPN360. Hope I'm wrong though, I really wanted to see this game (and no cable for me). How about SopCast?

First half was finally over right at 9 o'clock.
With any luck, the second half will move a little faster and maybe the game will be over by 10:45.

On the plus side, it's a pretty exciting game to watch.

sopcast just broadcasts TV channels. if this game is not on ESPN it won't be on Sopcast.

ESPN360 is free, but only on ISPs that carry it. Many ISPs don't.

When the WNBA game ran over for United States v Los Angeles, someone posted a direct link to the ESPN360 feed that anyone could watch.

Hopefully someone can do that again if the need arises.

If you have high speed cable internet you might also have cable TV. Back when I just had comcast cable I could put the internet cable into the back oof my TV and I got (illegal I assume) free cable. But now I want HD so I pay for both. Just a tip you might want to try if you have cable internet.:D

This should convince those people who think MLS Cup would be better in prime time on Thursday instead of middle of the day Sunday that its a bad idea.

Interesting how college football games are now scheduled against NFL games. That didn't used to really happen.

That's what I was thinking. That used to be really avoided until smaller schools starting playing games on all kinds of week nights so that they could have their games on ESPN.

And I thought it was all about education. I HATE college football.

That being said, Rutgers will destroy Louisville when they play later in the season.

The Big East has benefited a lot from playing games on Thurs night.
