The SI Jinx? Week 21 Power Rankings 1. D.C. United (13-6-3) The RFK fortress: United has not lost at home since April ...and he is predicting a draw tonight and a win on Sunday. (I don't mind it when we do that, but the whole Si jinx thing gives me the shivers.)
Heck, Ray, I thought you meant we were on the cover. Is there any power ratings jinx for SI in MLS??? Soccernet has us first in power ratings as well.
And we play badly when on ESPN's Thursday Night Primetime. NOOOOOOOOO Anti Bad Juju chant: Wesuckwesuckwesuck Wesuckwesuckwesuck Wesuckwesuckwesuck Notgonnawinnotgonnawinnotgonnawin Notgonnawinnotgonnawinnotgonnawin Notgonnawinnotgonnawinnotgonnawin chivasruleschivasruleschivasrules chivasruleschivasruleschivasrules chivasruleschivasruleschivasrules Hope it is enough.
I understand your point.... It is the whole SI-thing that gets me. I don't give a hoot about the other ratings, it is simply the SI thing... I will now go make appropriate sacrifices to the futbol gods...
And I bet you don't believe in Santa Claus, either... (or the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, UFOs, or Elvis's death)
then we can sacrifice you to appease the soccer gods. Non-believers are always good fodder for soccer gods. . .
We weren't on the cover, so no worries -- about an SI jinx, anyway. There's no tradition of any other kind of jinx associated with SI.
I normally don't like Power Rankings, although I've never minded FSC's, but this attack on Landon was pretty good: I have been watching a new television show called 'Intervention', where a bunch of family and friends will rally around someone in need. I am hoping that this week's episode will see the Galaxy players get together and stop Landon Donovan taking penalties for his own sake. He cost his side $1 million with his miss against Pachuca and then lost them the game against RSL with his miss on Saturday. Things can only get better, Landon …
Yeah, but we beat LA on Thursday Night Primetime and LA is the best team in MLS 'cause they have Beckham
If a person with star sunglasses sez so, it be so. Nevertheless, I like the suggestion of sacrificing MattMathai...
This may be a little off topic, but if you really want to get your blood up, listen to Tony Kornheiser's delusional ramblings about soccer in America ("There is no American Soccer"), and Beckham ("doesn't want to play here"). There was a short blurb at the top of page 2 in today's Washington Post sports section, excerpted from this video: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/video/2007/03/21/VI2007032101985.html Apparently mad Tony doesn't actually write anymore. What a dink! ...Long time reader, first time poster...
We'll never know if the impending losing streak is due to SI, or ursula starting a "Best Team Ever" thread.
Ah, to sacrifice me would bring many years of bad luck down on your head. Not because it'd be a jinx, though. Given my background, it'd just be bad karma...
Take your pick "I believe in miracles..." or "I believe that children are our future.." or "I believe when I fall in love this time it'll be forever" or "I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows" or "I believe I'm going to gag at this tripe..."
Oh, I don't believe in jinxes at all. I'm a scientist by training and profession -- how can I believe in a jinx? Now, wearing lucky shirts to home matches and viewing parties, that's a whole different thing.
