This agenda for the 9/11 council meeting has an entry for "Status of Proposed Soccer Stadium (OED)" listed as item 4.1.f. 9/11-Agenda.pdf

I can't tell if that means it was cover at an August 27 meeting or if it will be covered at next Tuesday's meeting.

Whats the word!? I'm dying to go to another 3 hour meeting.

It looks like there was a Community and Economic Development Committee meeting on Aug. 27, and one of the things that happened there was a status report on the stadium, and as a matter of procedure, Nancy Pyle has to report to the full council on that meeting. I don't know if this means any details will be released in this report, or if the report would just say "So-and-so gave us a status report on the proposed soccer stadium."

There's nothing in the agenda about the council taking any action on the stadium at this meeting. For that to happen it would need its own agenda item, complete with Recommendation:

Ironically, Earthquakes Soccer, LLC originally wanted its final decision with the San José City Council regarding the purchase of the former FMC site to be given in mid-September... it was the San José City Council that decided to postpone it until mid-October.

In other words, construction of The [Corporate name] Epicenter at San José could've officially been green-lit within the next 1-2 weeks.

Wasn't Kruitko just quoted as saying he'd be done by Sept 15?

Did the council actually pick an October date or did Les White just suggest that they wouldn't need to come back until October?

If Kruitko does finish by the 15th. This could be heard on the 25th.

The city council seemed to be the only people who thought the extra time is needed.

I heard Chuck Reed ask for the one month delay.

It was White, the city manager, at the council meeting. Basically it was "you guys are just going to come back asking for more time anyway, so just take another month". Kruitko seemed annoyned by that.

I don't remember the date being set, but Goodsport might be right with 10/16.

Indeed. As a matter of fact, City Manager White even declared how afraid he was of how good a negotiator Lew Wolff is and suggested that the the City Council needed the extra month to prepare for that.

In any case, I definitely remember them pushing the official date back to October 16. :(

If I recall, Krutko and Wolff disagreed with White. I would not call it an objection per se, but just some annoyance about the delay. At the time, I recall thinking that it was Les White who was feeling the pressure. I think some of those people (on the council) might feel intimidated by Lew Wolff. I don't think they know how to negotiate with someone who makes a point of making sure that both sides win....."win-win" is not something the council, or the mayor, is used to.

Actually that's not entirely true. My understanding is that the rezoning of iStar must happen before construction would begin at FMC. And the rezoning won't happen until March.

Yes, I think the October decision is about entering into an agreement with Lew Wolff regarding the development of the FMC property. As of right now, there is only talk. There is no legal document or contract. Once the contract is signed, the council will have put itself in a position to approve the iStar deal. I assume that we will not see any construction plans until after the October agreement.

Technically, construction can begin at the former FMC site as soon as the deal to sell that land to Lewis Wolff and John Fisher is consummated next month. However, any construction started there before March would be paid out of Wolff's and Fisher's own pockets.

Wolff could obviously start the construction immediately after an agreement is reached. Whether he is willing to take the risk could be another issue. If the iStar rezoning did not happen, he would need to find another method of financing. It would also seem to limit his options regarding other locations. Somehow, I doubt he would be willing to accept an agreement with San Jose that did not include an "out" option should the iStar rezoning not happen. That really would put a lot of pressure on the city council.

    Of course.

My point was simply that Wolff doesn't technically need to wait until March before beginning construction on The [Corporate name] Epicenter at San José at the former FMC site, though he no doubt will.

Starting early would be a very risky proposition. Especially with how waffling the SJ city council has proven to be over the years. However starting early would also highlight to the council his extreme dedication to the city of San Jose, which could be a definite plus.

If anyone is interested, here is a link to the archived video of the August 27th meeting where Krutko gave his report on the progress of the proposed soccer stadium to the Community and Economic Development Committee. You can "jump" right to the point where Krutko gives his report. It's about 15 minutes long.

    http://sanjose.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=23&clip_id=1977

Listening to Krutko you get a feeling that it is a complicated endeavor, but, Krutko says there have been "no glitches" to date. The city has three different groups of people working on the proposal, and have already budgeted $150,000 to it.

At the end of the report there was a couple of questions asked, and one was about how airport noise could potentially impact concerts there. Krutko's response was more or less it wasn't the city's problem, that it was an issue Wolff and Co. would have to deal with, and then he reiterated the fact that the city would not be putting any money toward the stadium. Like he was saying, "not our money, not our problem."
